Whittier softball is for real
Whittier High School's softball program raps 13 hits - and not a cheapie among 'em - in beating Santa Fe, 7-5, Tuesday afternoon.
To wonder if the girls are trying to keep up with the rapidily developing baseball program would be a disservice to the girls, but whatever the motivation, whatever coach Sandy Vera and her staff has them doing, it's working.
And it's being done with just three travel ball players.
Impressive, indeed!
Now if they could get some testimonials from their faithful on the blog, ...

Coaches @ La Serna wont even bother with you if a player does not come from an elite travel ball club. They don't like teaching fundamentals... There are kids there who play travel ball, but wont bother trying out for the school because of the coach.
Negative thoughts=negative reactions....positive thoughts=position reactions!!! We are a good team...PERIOD!!! We have nothing to prove to anybody but to ourselves! We know the truth, and that's all that matters. From somebody who TRULY means it, GREAT JOB LADY CARDINALS!!!
Does Softball have a dead period like Football? I saw these Lady Caridnals practice all year. Not with coaches but with so calles parent coaches. When Spring Football was going on in May & June the football team was dodging softballs because they fence the football field in the Summer. During Summer football the same thing. They almost hurt some of the Kids. They say the were a club team, but they were using all the Whittier facilitiesand players. You can ask Coach Scott and Frank they will confer this. Hey I am just a person who walks the track all summer and all year. Thats all. If you practice all year you better be better! Does Whittier AD (Varos)know about this he should its his job too!
Good Job Lady Cardinals
Let me tell you a story.........There once were 2 farmers in the middle of a drought, they both prayed for rain. One farmer went out and plowed his field's while the other did nothing. Who do you think believed the most. LADY CARDS...........HERE COMES THE REIGN!!!!!
The motivation you ask....it's called heart. Our girls have worked hard just like the other teams I'm sure but what we have is team chemistry. Our team is a family. It's not one put in front of the other but it's going into to the game hand in hand. We have built a program from 1 travel ball player to two and now three. Yes only three, and because we have created this winning team from the bottom up should show what hard work and heart can do to a program. Its never giving up! I think the Whittier Cardinals are the true Champions here, even if we don't get the patch or the banner....we won already because of who we are and nobody knows it better then the Lady Cardinals. GO LADY CARDINALS, KEEP WORKING HARD GIRLS!!!
The fact that Whittier's softball team only has 3 travel ball players means nothing, although most of the other girls have played in local area ASA league teams. All of these girls play with heart and they are playing to win. I'm glad that they are proving to be a thorn on some of the other schools in the Del Rio League. If not for a few errors they probably could have beat La Serna last week. They are hungry to beat Cal this Thursday, especially now that El Rancho did it, Whittier can to. Good Luck Lady Cardinals!!
