Del Rio baseball settled, finally ...

Chris Vargas' no-hit pitching and a sparkling defensive effort, despite three errors, carried El Rancho to a 3-1 victory over La Serna and a second consecutive DRL baseball championship.
The Dons turned four double plays, highlighted by second-baseman Mike Manriquez's pivot at the bag and impressive play all around.
Marcus Aldecoa, limited to designated hitter responsibilities due to a still-sore groin pull, set the offensive tone when he drew a two-out base on balls in the second inning, and when La Serna second baseman Raymond Morrill muffed Carlos Cabrera's ground ball, Aldecoa never hesitated in hustling safely all the way to third base.
He drew a futile throw from right fielder Nathan Garcia that sailed over the fence behind third base, and Aldecoa was awarded home plate and El Rancho's first run that tied the score.
La Serna's Victor Soto was impressive in defeat. With no offensive support, he limited the Dons to two hits, and struck out five, four of them in the last three innings to help keep the game close and give his team a chance to win.

Baseball and softball playoff pairings will be announced Monday. El Rancho, La Serna and California will represent the Del Rio League in that order.

How do you not pitch Burke at all against El Rancho? He threw the first game against them which they won and through in every game down the stretch exept for one game vs. Santa Fe. La Serna has three guys who can hit; Burke,Soto and Ortel, if the others do not hit it is going to be a quick playoff run. Villalobos is good and deserves the MVP.

Why knock on Nieto? Isn't it every teams goal to make CIF? Yes a league title is also a goal, but im pretty sure anyone that has played high school baseball would accept not winning a league title if it meant winning a CIF ring.

Today is the first day of spring ball and not one thing about football this morning, I went on fred robledo and scott galetti blogs and they are talking about football in their area. I get on the whittier area only to find something that was on 3 days ago. If you want people to talk about sports, you need to be on top of things and keep people updated about whats going on. Everyone gets on the internet to get news fast or as it happens. Your giving us news via pony express.

anyone want to knock ER's "weak" preseason now

Awsome win over LS.ER looked impressive in both games vs LS.With Vargas solidifying himself in the rotation with Villalobos,ER has a very good chance of going deep in the playoffs. The infield continues to do a tremendous job and the timely hitting this team comes up with is as equally impressive.Congratulations on a great regular season.Let's keep it going!Good Luck.

Congrats to El Rancho on a good game yesterday. LS and ER are pretty evenly matched. ER, despite making some errors, made the plays when they had to, and Vargas . All three DRL reps this year are capabe of going on a roll. This could be there year that a DRL team makes it to the finals.

Villalobos will likely be league MVP, but I think that Victor Soto is truly the MVP. His pitching and hitting combined are unequalled in the league. He threw a great game himself yesterday, and is the only DRL pitcher who has hit 90MPH this year. He deserves to be MVP, while Villalobos is clearly pitcher of the year and an all CIF first team guy.

Congratulations to the El Rancho Dons Baseball Team!!! Wish I was there to see the victory. My thanks to Coach LLanes for his dedication to the team, the encouragement and support brought out the best in these boys! Good job!

Good Luck in post play!

Congrats to El Rancho on winning the league title for the 2nd straight year.

For all the talk on the blogs of El Rancho not playing good competition in pre-season which was why their record was so good and La Serna playing top notch competition was gonna pay off down the road looks pretty silly now, doesn't it?

Newsflash: Moral victories dont win you a league title.

Good luck to all three DRL teams in CIF. ER, LS, and CAL respresent the league well.
