All-Area consideration ....
The spring sports playoffs are completed and area teams served themselves well.
Time for the all-area recognition for deserving athletes.
Suggestions for Player and Coach of the Year?
And why?
It is expected some heart will be involved, but hopefully it won't get in the way of logic and performance.
And remember, it is preferable that the emphasis be on brevity rather than rants.

This rudy casillas from santa fe high school. First of all, not once have a put anyone down. I am just a baseball player that trys to do my best at short. i give every credit to ernie. i would say he is a dam good shortstop hands down. and i cant say who is better and u sucks and all that. i am not coach. but i can say that we make a good middle infield on the same team. i dont really care who is better and so forth. so i just want to say that i have never said anything bad. i am just here to play ball and get my education. i do want to say thanks to ernie's da for the comment. thanks. and to every one that say good or bad things. thanks.
Target date is June 18, but could be a day or two later.
For all area player (EL RANCHO-CHRIS VILLALOBOS)there's is not a strong arugment against him. NOW as talk of RAY MADRID(ER)this boy can scoot and a hell of a arm. Let the debate go on!
As I enter my final thoughts on this subject, I do so using my name, not some Anonymous screen name. The fact is Stats are just that, Stats, a record of the things that happen during a game. If you have watched every game this year I respect the time you have given to the sport. You can go to Maxpreps and look at the stats, the Coaches are the only ones that can enter them. Ernie Aguilera was awarded for the 2nd year in-a-row 1st team league, a award that is voted and presented by the Coaches of the League. With those things pointed out this is why I believe he should a member of the All-Area Team. Casillas is a good SS and a good young man off the field. I never posted anything negative of him (just the stats) or his approach to the game. Don't try to blow the subject out of proportion, all that should be mentioned are the thoughts of why a individual should be recognized, not to step on someone else trying to do so. The best outcome for both of these players is they both will be playing college ball next year.
August Aguilera
when does all area come out?
ernie aguilera is a complete standout on the defensive and offensive. he is also by far the best shortstop in the area. Andrew chico would be the closest comparison.cassillas does not belong in the conversation.
First of all santa fe ss Casillas actually does get in front of the balls and does not back hand every ball hit to him, that would be basic baseball. To top it off he knows how to wear a hat, this isn't just a baseball game, this is a sport with pride and class.. Aguilera may have a better bat than Casillas but Casillas has the "D". As shown on April 9th Casillas put on a clinic with amazing plays as a diving double play to Perez against el rancho.
Well here are Ernie Aguilera's stats not just batting.
On defensive he had 3 times more put outs and 4 times the assist compared to Casillas.

Having seen Aguilera and Casillas both play three games last year and this year against La Serna, I'd say they are pretty close. Aguilera might be a bit stronger at the plate, but Casillas is slightly better at short, in my opinion. Both good players, for sure- the best SSs in DRL this year. I thought Aguilera did a nice job this year, especially in the last two games against La Serna.
Good job in getting so few strikeouts. Fewer strikeouts are better, of course, but that stat alone doesn't really say much. If someone has few Ks, lots more walks, and hits and drives in runs, great job. But lots of guys will strike out more than average, but they more than make up for it by driving the ball, getting walks, scoring runs, etc. Give me a guy who strikes out 10 times in 60-70 at bats, but also drives in 20, scores 15-20, hits 5+ extra base hits, etc. If the same hitter cuts the Ks down, all the better. On the Dodgers right now, Matt Kemp strikes out a lot, but he's also hitting over .300 and is always a threat to drive the ball to the outfield. Other stats are a lot more important than strikeouts.
Babe Ruth is the all time strikeout leader, and I hear he was a pretty good hitter.
how are you going to tell me that the santa fe ss is better thn me with like 10 ks during season.. ahaha WOW!!
Oh yah and ask any Coach in the Del Rio League who was the hardest batter to strike out, they will remember the lead-off for El Rancho #55 Short-Stop, Ernie Aguilera.
In 2 years 140 At Bats and only 7 k's.........
It's funny to see how a 2 time All-League (Voted By his Peers) Short Stop can be left of this list. With the added adjustment of moving to lead-off this year and he still triple's his walk stats doing so. Only struck out 7 times in the last 2 years. What more of a consistent short stop do you want for your team. Ernie Aguilera may be a quiet, humble player, but never question his work ethic or efforts. Oh yah and he also made that 2 strike bunt happen in the All-Star Game. I have never bragged about my sons playing abilities but I will stand up for his accomplishments as actions speak louder then words…..

Whittier Boys reccommends three players from Santa Fe who was 2-13. I hope that can not happen.
Rogerrrr Hellooooo,
Football Springtraining has been going on for three weeks now, how about a few football topics to liven this board up.
Got to agree with DLH. Casey Morales for Coach of the Year. What he did with those boys is remarkable. Young and short on experience he got them to believe in themselves and got them all the way to the finals. SP will be loaded next year. They have to got be one of the favorites to win it all next year.
IN THE OUTFIELD I THINK RAY MADRID SHOULD GET ALL AREA. HE COVERED MORE GROUND THAN ANY CENTER FIELDER IN THE DRL. AND ALSO CHRIS V FROM ER SHOULD GET PLAYER OF THE YEAR.
Soto- La Serna
Najera-Santa Fe
Madrid-El Ranco
Avila-Whittier
Estrada- La Serna
Murillo-CaL
Casillas-Santa Fe
Murillo-CaL
Flores-El Rancho
Santoya- St. Paul
Leibert-CaL
Franco-Montebello
Corona-Santa Fe
Villabos-El Rancho
Gonzales/George are the obvious choice for coach of teh year, for al the reasons anonymous said. As for MVP, it woudl be easy to say Villalobos, with his record, his long term DRL stature as one of the best pitchers ever, etc., but Soto was the best player in the league. Nobody in DRL hit 90 mph this year except for Victor, and he did it with command. As Roger has seen, nobody covers the outfield like Victor. Several catches where he ran 90' or more. Big league right fielder ability. The kid hit .450+, and he was good last year as well. He deserves it.
Runners up:
Chris Villalobos- a great pitcher. What a career---so far.
Francisco Fuentes. Good pitcher, and a very good hitter with power. He could be D1.
Tyler Leibert- A good pitcher who hit well this year.
Erick Ruvalcaba- A solid all around player who can be lights out sometimes on the hill. Good season for him.
how can you over look the job that Casey Morales, and his coaching staff did at ST Paul, this is a team that last year went 10-16 and then coming to this year with only 2 seniors starters returning, yes there is a load of younger kids that are talented, but lets really look at this from a coaching point of you and you must admit looking at the line up 2 seniors, 2 juniors, and 5 sophmores, great job SP and great job coaches looking for another great year to come.
Criteria is correct.
This year, the Player of the Year does not have to be one of the other 11 players.
Final decision? Daily News.
Coaches of the Year - Gonzalez & George at La Serna
They took a team that went 15-11 with extremely low motivation & few returning Seniors to a dedicated, never say quit 20 - 9 team that really looked & played like a team. The guys truely believe in what these two coaches are teaching and it showed all the way from the first scrimmage to the quarter finals of CIF - Great Job Coaches
Player of the Year - Victor Soto, he has shown since his freshman year his passion and talent in baseball. This season with coaches that understood how to utilize him he had a tremendous year ending up with a .457 Batting, .629 Slugging, 1.000 Fielding 1.846 ERA and a 7-2 record. Also he is a true leader on and off the baseball field with his never quit attitude always playing to win and really enjoying the game. - Great Job Victor
What's the criteria for selection?
Are we to assume the usual spots?:
*Players of the year
*Coach of the year
*Two pitchers
*Catcher
*Four infielders
*Three outfielders
*Utility
Who makes the final decision?
