Week 0 picks

| | Comments (8) |

Week 0, as in zero, and time to initiate the local pigskin pick'em. Sort of a test run and trying to get out of the box on the right foot.
Same as last season, Andrew Campa and I will make our selections each week and we'll keep a running total to decide something -- I'm not quite sure what -- at the end of the season.

Tonight's games:
El Rancho at West Covina, 7 p.m. -- Murray (West Covina); Campa (West Covina)
Tesoro at La Mirada, 7 p.m. -- Murray (Tesoro); Campa (Tesoro )
Montebello vs. Norwalk, at Excelsior HS, 7 p.m. -- Murray (Norwalk); Campa (Norwalk)
Cochrane, Alberta vs. Whittier Christian, at Whittier College, 7 p.m. -- Murray (Cochrane); Campa (Cochrane)
St. Paul vs. Servite, at Cerritos College, 7:30 p.m. -- Murray (Servite); Campa (Servite).

I'm an Arsenal supporter and even I have to acknowledge Ronaldo's ability and his brilliance for ManU in the last 2 seasons...last one especially.

Here's the way I saw it Lil Don,
33 to 0 at half, we started pulling starters after the first series in the 2nd half, never the less, El Rancho didn't look to bad, if I remember right, it seemed you guy's moved the ball pretty well the first couple of series, then W Covina must have made adjustments & stopped you till the subs came in, our head coach left the game late in the third because his mom was taken to the hospital from the game by an ambulance, [she had dehydration]. All those players that were helped off had cramps, hopefully they will be hydrated for the next game.

El Rancho blitz all night, when the running back #33 pass the line, he was by him self, or one on one. Result big plays. Zepeda had the team in great physical shape. About 5 to 6 Bulldogs players including #33 were help off the field. On offence for the Ranch a few miscues, it’s a work in progress. A that a boy to coaches & players, handle the lost excellent. Its going to be a great season !

What happened Montebello? Oh, well same old weak coaches, and admin= same old results. At least we have a new field, not that we'll win on it this year. Fire the coaching staff and isn't it time for Schwartz and Murphy to ROTATE out of MHS to Vail or somewhere?

Hometown's comments are full of wisdom, but I think Murray based his choice on what he saw on paper. Cochrane's strong record last year versus WC's average one. Typical of most prognosticator's, they make picks based on what they can see in black and white (statistics!!!)as opposed to really knowing anything about either team.
As a WC fan, though, Roger, please continue to pick their opponents to win. Makes for great bulletin board material for the Herald players!

All your picks are understandable except the Cochrane one. Why would you pick a Canadian team over Whittier Christian? The traveling and tourist activities would be enough to help with that choice. It's not hockey! The last time a Canadian team came to the area, the Varsity team wouldn't even play them - the local coach had the JV team play the Canadian Varsity. Needless to say, it still wasn't even close. Murray will give you a prize if you can name the province and the local opponent.
