Yo, Cal Fan: I was at the game. That has little to do with what I said.

Mr Murray,
Your comments regarding Eric Stern???? Where are you getting your information from?? Were you at the game to make that kind of comment?? Focus!!!!!!???? That is all Eric does is focus. His focus is to continue to improve and do his best, academics are his focus, his kicking is his focus, this is what he loves and wants to continue to do!!!! Focus???? I think you need to focus on your writing and getting it straight.

Ant said:

little Stern indeed has skill. Especially his kick offs. End zone every time

billy ballgame said:

I Just hope they both Greg & Josh have a great game and have fun. Save me a seat!!!

Mr Murray,

You have no idea what you're talking about. Eric Stern's focus, come on get real. You obviously don't know what your talking about. You need to know your facts before you write.

I agree with anonymous, Pioneer's problem is attendance. This year, like last year, PiHi has shown that they can compete with some schools in the area, but even with Palacios they'd have tough time making CIF in DRL. Same in baseball. Last two years Pioneer started out decent, then got whacked in DRL. Even a better team, Santa Fe, started out something like 7-1 amd were scoring a ton of runs, yet came in last place in DRL. DRL, for all the knocks it get in many sports, is not a bad league.

Pioneer, despite the long history going back to Whitmont days playing competitively with traditional rivals WHS, LS, Cal and SF, needs to be moved to a more appropriate league. Put PHS in Altmont or similar league and watch them compete.

Yo, Cal Student,
Never been a question about young Mr. Stern's leg. It's his focus. Some observers marvel at the ease with which he kicks a 57-yard field goal against El Monte, and in the same game, shanks an extra point. We're not talking about a bad snap or a holder's mistake. One way to look at it is that he makes the game not only interesting but exciting.

Cal Student said:

I was checking out Stern practice his kicks during practice, and like everyone already knows, he has a leg! He barely missed a 65 yard field goal, it hit the horizontal bar and went out.. what a leg..
go condors beat the ranch

G-Mom said:

After watching High School Sports and Park Ball for years and still calling an umpire a referee and QB a tight-end or where the heck does the wide receiver get where he is suppose to be so fast. Maybe I haven't learned the game that well but I do know one thing, it takes alot of hard work and love of the game to play football. Playing week after week winning or not. Standng on the side lines playing or not. Making TD/fumbles/jumping off sides all so parents can go crazy in the stands and act like they wouldn't act anywhere else. Oh and yes lets not forget letting off steam on the blogs. Thank You Boys!!!!

I would just like to pass on a small thought to all those ER DONS for tomorrows game... We have seen in all of you great commitment to do whatever it takes to play good football together as a team, now take that commitment and VISION yourselves on top with no boundaries and no limits as if you were playing in the playoffs and SOCK IT to those Condors. Hey - Jefferson get better fast.

Liz that’s great you are fortunate to see and enjoy both family members. Take a lot of pictures or buy the game film. These cousins will always remember that night. It going to be a good game. Good luck to both teams.

Dear Whittier Cub..It's unfortunate you cannot wish both teams a safe and injury free game and feel the need to make some kind of remark. Maybe it would be wise to consider why you have your child in a faith-filled environment. May your son and all our boys be taught the true meaning of sports competition and what it takes to be a true and honorable athelete. Our young men are SWORDSMEN, strong in spirit, faith and tradition of our patron saint, St. Paul and WE ARE PROUD!! We wish all our young men CUBS AND SWORDSMEN playing this friday a safe and injury free game. May God Bless Them and may they all play to the best of their ability!! AMEN!!

GO SWORDSMEN!! WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!

its not what pioneer needs to do they get the most out the kids that they have to give. The district needs to change some of the boundaries, enforce the transfer rules (ie. allowing more freshmen kids to tranfer then should..) This school is in a disadvantgage with enrollment, with every school inthe district, they are at 1300 to 1500 kids when compared to everyone else who is a least over 2300 not including the ranch. As they say pickens are thin.So you do the math

Murray,

correction on your article...Ryan Garcia is not challenging Flores for the spot...Flores was being deciplined so he didnt start and sat out some of the game and then came back in the 4th quarter in order to preserve the win.

POET said:

LS' Burke has the best feet of any HS QB around. His lateral quickness allows him to create his own passing space, and when guys are covered, he can run. Plus, he's 6'1" and about 200 lbs., so he's like a fullback. Ben's a pitcher who can hit 88 MPH or so on the gun, so he has the arm as well. Cal, LS and SF will battle, and all games wil be tough in DRL, but I agree with Coach: LS has a swarming D, and an offense led by Burke that is multi-dimensional, based on the game situation. Last week, a fired up Los Altos came out hitting hard and stuffed the run during the first half. In the second half, the coaches made the adjustment, had Burke throw on the rollout, and the offense moved. They have to beat Santa Fe, but LS has what it takes to take DRL.

Big Oso said:

Good Luck to the Perea cousins (Josh and Greg). I am glad we have Greg on our side. He is becoming a double threat quarteback you need to be aware of. Greg will open up a can of whoop ass and beat Josh down, like all lil cousins should be beat. It will be like taking candy from a baby. Mike, get that tub full of ice because Josh is going to need it. XOXOXO

El Rancho said:

Ranch; this is your time your game, there’s no better time than now!!!!!

hmmm said:

to be honest the DRL is a RUN FIRST league which exactly why LS wont win league...you might have the best QB in league right now and he is ok...he has not thrown for very much and does not have a great completetion percentage...and the only reason i said he was the best QB in the league right now is bc Palcios from Pioneer is hurt.

Proud Condor Parent said:

I would like to congratulate Eric Stern for his 57-yard field goal. It was great to see, keep up the great job Eric and our entire Condor football team. DEFEND YOUR TITLE FROM LAST YEAR, UNIT, PLAY TOUGH AND GOOD LUCK WITH LEAGUE.

Alfred Davila said:

I went to Pioneer High school and Graduated in 89. As far as I know we never had a winning season. Every once in a while I will see how they are doing but, it is always is the same. I think one time in the late 90's or 2000 they had a decent season making the CIF playoffs. After that and before that it has been nothing but disappointing seasons. What do you think they need to do to turn the program around?

Anonymous said:

who the heck has la serna? best qb, how many passing yards does he have, not much

ER Alum; said:

Coach we have been hearing how L.S is one of the top picks or the best team to beat. QB LS was the top player in league maybe in the area last year no doubt. It will be a fun DRL season. GOOD LUCK!

Liz said:

Cal vs. ER = Perea vs. Perea (two quarterback cousins go up against each other on Friday night)...

DON said:

Cal Hi; Being defending league champs, 5&0 this season deserves respect. El Rancho this game is an opportunity to measure yourself against your own potential.

coach said:

My pick for league (DRL) champ is NO DOUBT La Serna

coach said:

My pick for DRL champs, is La Serna. Speed on defense is the reason. Shut down every offense it faced this season. Best QB in league will make the difference

elrancho said:

If ER shows up against Cal the way they did against Montebello then Cal rolls easily, if we show up the way we played in the first half of the BG game then it should be a great game. We have played really well against Cal the last 2 years, I hope we dont have a let down this week. Good Luck Ranch!!!

ER said:

El Rancho; Cal said they’re not going to be surprised or be laid back. Their prognosis “Cal 30-ER 14 “

Cal has laid down the gauntlet, So ER pin your ears back and bring hell with you. Because this is a great opportunity to add your own history and bring passion to stories you will one day share with your young sons. ER & Cal give both communities something to talk about, a hard tough fight. As announcer “ Mills “ would say LETS GET IT ON !!!

Whittier Cub said:

This week AB (Anthony Barr) runs for a career high. He will get at least 300yds rushing against the tiny Swordswomen. Loyola rolls big this week.

Anonymous said:

hmm how the are you always making excuses about the ER..competing for 2nd or 3rd about not bein at full strenth. Look at Pioneer they have not had last years MVP qb play a down all year, also the 2nd string qb who had already had passed for 500 yrds not played since game 3 due to injury, but ther is light in the end of the tunnel!

hmmm said:

so now that pre-season is done for DRL here are my upto date predictions.

1) Santa Fe...most talent and can control the game with their running attack.

2) Cal...probably best Defense in the league.

3) LS...has arguably the best QB in the league.

4) Pioneer...can put up points but will give up 40 points to a powder puff team.

5) ER...they could have competed for 2nd or 3rd if they were at full strength

6) Whittier...very unimpressive during pre-season
