Week 6 results: DRL favorites romp in openers

| | Comments (14) |

Friday night's results:

La Habra 62, Sonora 0
Yes, Fullerton rolled over Buena Park (50-7), but it it still doesn't
look good for the Indians and the rest of the Freeway League because
the Highlanders are on a roll.
Santa Fe 19, Whittier 6
Turner returns opening kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown, and although
point differential isn't what many expected, it was a game the Chiefs
were supposed to win.
La Serna 67, Pioneer 27
Lozano, Burke sharp and Lancers continue to impress, but beating up
personnel-depleted Titans doesn't earn a lot of ranking points.
California 45, El Rancho 13
Aggressive Condors defense wouldn't let El Rancho's offense get loose,
even with Aldecoa back to help Galan, and the near future doesn't appear
bright for the Dons.
Schurr 38, Alhambra 24
Spartans rise to the occasion - again - and add more misery to the
Moors' already deteriorating hopes for what was expected to be a
championship Almont League season.
Loyola 42, St. Paul 21
One more week to go (Sherman Oaks Notre Dame) for the Swordsmen, and
then they get off this fast track to begin Mission League play, though,
that's not going to provide much relief.
Bell Gardens 45, Montebello 20
Oilers put their two-game win streak on the line, then couldn't stop the
Lancers' ground game (316 yards) nor keep them out of the end
zone (seven possessions, six TDs).
Cathedral 42, Cantwell Sacred Heart 0
The visiting Phantoms worked their magic and the anticipated duel
between super receivers Ray Carroll (Cathedral) and Jeffrey Taylor
(Cantwell) got lost in the shuffle.
Mayfair 28, La Mirada 0
In what not long ago was the Suburban League's premier matchup, winning
Monsoons weren't impressive enough to scare anybody, and the Mysterious
Matadores remain a question mark.
Paraclete 38, Whittier Christian 12
First-half miscues + lost opportunities in the second half + Brandon
Buteyn 280 yards and three touchdowns = more obstacles than the
youthful, mistake-prone Heralds could handle.

el rancho people stop the weekly crying, or should i say daily. You are a below average team stop living in the past. You go to battle with what you have period.

I think Reyna kicking off Richard off the coaching staff was the low point in Reynas Era and the breaking point of the Ranch.....

Once a Chief always a chief,

Did you go to the downey game and watch Garcia play quarterback. It was pathetic.

The starter, Flores, was not even supposed to play that game and they still had to bring him in to preserve the game.

You obviously dont have a clue about the QB's on this team.

and yes, campbell should call the plays, I agree your not as dumb as i thought.

Once again here you are with your nonsense. You Lancers sure do like to talk about what your going to do & then you can never deliver. Weren't you spewing the same La Serna BS last year.

Putting 7 or 8 in the box gives the short weaked arm QB an advantage. Greg Perea may not be the strongest armed QB in the league but, he is the quickest. Our offense is just fine in case you haven't noticed, it's called balance. Your boy better be ready to get SMACKED DOWN, you know it's coming.

Del Rio League Fan said:

There are 2 teams in the Del Rio that can throw and only 2 teams that can throw and those are Pioneer and La Serna. The 3 other teams will see 7 and 8 in the box because they can't spread the field with small and weak armed QB's. That is a fact. Falling behind with a run ONLY offense makes winning games tough. You should have practiced this in the preseason. I still say that Pioneer will beat someone who should win because they are capable of scoring fast by spreading the field. The other teams in this league just can't do.

CAL Dad said:

Roger, I know that Max Preps does not always have the most current stats. But if you take a look at Santa Fe's QB stats they are pretty much the same as Cal's QB.In fact Cal's QB has thrown for 6 TD's , and Santa Fe's QB has thrown for only one. So should Santa Fe's lack of passing be their only drawback?

The Chiefs game against Whittier last week, Whittier's defense was good BUT when you (Chiefs) run the ball every play right up the middle you can see we were not going to get anything or just very little (3 and out) we need to change it this week for sure. as far as QB, i think Ryan Garcia in the better passer on that squad, if we are going to do anything this year Campbell needs to call the offense again!

oh by the way Connie Chieftain, your right!! Finney had a great game last week both him and Nails have done some things on both sides of the ball

PLAY HARD, PLAY SAFE!! remember they're just kids

El Rancho most people mean well, so go against the doubters. Swim against the current because even a dead fish will follow with the flow! The harder the fight the sweeter the victory!!!!!!!!

Mr Murray' I take it when your commenting about certain school you'll use specific handling gloves, one pair of gloves cradles another pair of gloves dosen't squash but squeeze certain schools. As if one school needs nurture, the other needs spanking? Im curious how dose that thought process work?

BIG Red; I could not agree more, who from the Ranch dosen't want to support our players? Maybe some lost soul that blogs? We have their backs win or lose!!!!

elrancho said:

As much as it pains me to say it that is exactly what is going on Big Red. Back then we had some kids that wanted to hit and would run through a wall for the coach, today kids are afraid of getting their jersey dirty. Back then we had some awesome PR Don teams that would smash on everyone, we need to get back to fundamentals and start teaching these PR kids that they are never going to beat other teams with their size or their talent, but with their hard work, heart, and willingness to put it all on the line. ER is not such a horrible team right now, but it pains me to say that we are not contenders the way the alumni or the city would like to see and were used to seeing for such a long time. We became spoiled by so much great teams and when it all comes crashing we just cannot take it....

How can you write that the SF, Whittier game was a romp. It was 12-6 for most of the game, Until SF scored late in the 4th. We all know of the big Turner run to start the game, but does anyone who was not at the game know. That the other two scores that SF got, they only had to go 20 and 18 yds for the TD. The defence on both teams played great. Whittier's Defensive line, and linebackers did a great job against the best o-line in the DRL and the second best running back Tuner, but no write up about that. SF has the biggest, Fastest, and deepest team in the DRL. I know Whittier is 1-5 but if there offence can start scoring some points. look out DRL

Connie Chieftain
I agree with you 100% the writer is a fool, that # 74 Finney is a beast. Murray there is your first all area pick for the DL hope you agree Connie.

ER Fans
It's time to move on and leave the past. These boys are not the same. Back then they played outside, today they play games inside. Back then they wanted to hit someone, today they want to score and be the star. Back then they would do what ever the coach asked them to do, today they ask why. Back then you and all your friends went out for football, today you and maybe two of your friends. Back then you worked hard to be in football, today It's too hard and I don't have the time. Back then the PR Dons were the best team in the conf. and would kill Whittier, today all four teams lose to Whittier.
It's time to ajust and move on and support the FOOTBALL PLAYERS that are here now. Thats what the fans of today are.

Why do you use miscues, lost opportunities, obstacles, the youthful mistakes for Whittier Christian? ST Paul needs relief. Mysterious?

uh huh said:

im pretty sure that La Serna won 57-27. and duh of course beating up on pioneer doesn't give LS ranking points. but can't the same be said for Cal-Hi and Santa Fe? it's football, a win is a win.
