Great job this season by the cheifs ... Maybe this will be the team to get over that hurdle and get a CIF title ... League titles are nice, but to be known as a great program you gotta win the BIG ONE! CIF title ...

anonymous,

you must have only gone to the pioneer game cause that is the game where the TE had two td's but if you went to the cal game you would know that #5 and #12 were both used dwon the stretch and if you were at the LS game you would know that #8 had a big game receiving so get a clue before you try to post a scouting report. btw why not use the TE alot?? especially SF talented TE.

goo ein chiefs, your season ends against charter oak,or any the covinas schools. They can all match your size and speed since we know you cant throw the ball,to anybody but the te.

To the Santa Fe Chiefs,

I would like to "CONGRATULATE" you on taking League. Most of all I would like to "CONGRATULATE" you in making La Serna see a "BLACK OUT". Now both Santa Fe and Cal have both been "LEAGUE CHAMPS", WHAT HAPPENED LA SERNA where is yours. GOOD LUCK to all three teams in the play-offs, work hard, play hard and most of all stay strong and healthy. MAKE TO DEL RIO LEAGUE PROUD OF YOU, REPRESENT US WELL.

Mr. Murray,

LH Offensive Line Coach Frank Thompson does a great job with the O-Line at La Habra. The results are evident.

Yo, anonymous: When the St. Paul article was written, it was on deadline, actually a bit after deadline (due to the game's late starting time). He was unaware that Chaminade had upset St. Francis to create a threeway tie.

Yo, yo Football Watcher: The WDN has staffed every St. Paul game this season. Name another newspaper that has done that. The 7:30 start is a killer for us, especially when games run long for any number of reasons. Every year we make our futile pitch to St. Paul to move the starting time up. We understand why they do it, and we deal with it. Again, your bias has caused you to lose touch with reality.

Got to disagree on the article. Acts like he is unbiased but he's always trying to find a way to get his digs on the Swordsmen football program.

I'm surprised to see Campa write about the game...are you sure he was there? Youa re right, maybe he got lost.

We do get better coverage from the writers in the Valley

football watcher , please stop with your idiotic comments!
we didn't have a really outstanding team this year worth writing about ..
not taking away from our boys, they played tough, but we were just ok .
not news worthy.
its ok , we'll be back next year.
quit the bitchen & just be proud.
good luck to all the area teams that made the playoffs.
WE ARE ST PAUL!!!!

I noticed that also about not even a summary in paper for a game.
Thats exactly what ive been trying to say. No coverage in a community paper. And biased opinions for there beloved Del Rio schools. Has been making me sick because there are some good things goin on at SP but the area will never know about because it isnt LS, SF, CAL, WHS,ER or Pioneer. Ive been reading the outer lying papers and SP gets more ink in those papes than the Whittier Daily News. Should rename the section to Whittier Public School Prep Section.
I see Campa finally brought himself to travel outside the confines of Whittier and wrote a not to bad article. Did you get a ride or did you get lost and ended up there by mistake.

Yeah, our season is over....but instead of talking about how YOUR team is doing, you are still talking about. Can't get us out of your head can you? :)

Mr. Murray,
I agree with you about La Habra offensive line, but also let me add on to your comment...watch out for OL 10th grade varsity players..Offensive Tackles: Kevin Casey and Kyle Peko and Josh Elkington who will most probably be taking over after Mcdermott graduates. Since I live in the area Ive seen a couple of there games..big strong players.

Yo, SG(50)DRLCHAMP: Probably La Habra, with center Nick McDermott and guards Willie Mayoral and Jake Garvey showing the way. The rankings are put up Wednesday, and Santa Fe hadn't beaten La Serna yet. Obviously, that will change next week.

Sorry, but we've been saying it all year long! What you didn’t hear last week was the calm before the storm, the very storm that blew La Serna's DRL title hope into pieces. We left the talking to our young men this week and they had the FIRST and LAST word!!!!!!!!

SG(50)DRLCHAMP said:

Hey Murray,
i was just wondering which area team do do you think has the best offensive line and please explain why you think so
also I was reading the newspaper this morning and i saw the list of the top 5 area teams and i was surprised to see la serna was ranked number 2 and Santa Fe was ranked number 3... Why is La Serna ranked higher than santa fe if they just lost to them last night

Indian Joe said:

After watching last nights game I believe that La Serna deserves alot of respect. I've watched that program over there make great strides. There were a few players from both schools that have played together at the junior all american level with the Whittier Redskins and the NSFS Saints. Some played together since they were 6 years old to the beginning of high school. You could see the love and respect for each other by the hugs they gave each other after the coin toss and at the end of the game. To La Serna boys, do not hang your heads because the real football season begins next week, look at film, make adjustments and may God help you be sucessful and keep you safe in the play-offs. To the SF Chief boys, congrats for your sucess, you made all us parents very proud last night but lets not get to exited because we have not finished the job yet. Good luck in the play-offs and may God keep you all safe. Go Chiefs!!!!!

It is funny how much SF is talking after the game. I did't see any of these comments before the game. Congradulations on winning the game. You could learn to have a little humility but I guess that lesson will be learned in the playoffs. LS was outcoached, out played and didn't get any breaks. Each teams had three fumbles LS recovered 1 and SF all 3. An 85 yd td called back and two of SF passes should have been pickoff. SF defensive line destroyed LS. Good Luck two both teams in the playoffs you should both do well.

youngblood-sophomore said:

Santa Fe what a tremendous statement last night with the league title on the line. “GOOD LUCK in the playoffs and do the league proud from the RANCH” #12 Oliver your SF’s gladiator, you’ll make it tough for us next year and not to forget or leave out that strong team behind you. Again Good Luck!

Dear Mr. Murray and Mr. Campa, why is Whittier Daily News including Montebello's schools and La Puente's Bishop Amat in it's overall coverage? Doesn't "The Daily News" and "SGV Tribune" cover them at all? Why did St. Paul H.S. get excluded from last Friday's match up section? As of today, the Swordsmen are still battling to defend their shared Mission League Title tonight against Alemany, with playoff ramifications. Is there any respect for the areas defending CIF division III or Western Conference Champions? Even though the SPHS football team is in a Catholic school league, playing against three or four PAC 5 ranked teams plus some other local public and private schools in non league every year, it is the players who desereve more coverage if nothing else.

LS played hard but SF just took it to them at every facte of the game...maybe LS sould upgrade their schedule to get themselves ready for SF and playoffs next year.

Adrian Mahlstede had a great game on both sides of the ball, except for that wide open drop. Crouch owned at DE last night as well as the D as a whole. And Flores stepped up again and outplayed Burke. He has outplayed every QB in the DRL head to head. Turner had an off night again and has not been on his game since getting injured. But credit the SF team and staff for winning league. Now its time for CIF and getting the players healthy.

La Serna fans want respect? Your football program was swept on all 3 levels yesterday being out scored 75-7. Tell us again why we should give you respect?

I will give LS props for a good season as well for the varsity playing a good hard fought no nonsense game. Good luck in the playoffs.

SANTA FE – great job! All summer and season people have tried to beat you down but each week you worked your butts off and did whatever to took to get back to league champs. I know people are probably still scratching their heads about this team and maybe that just what you need to go all the way. Best of luck!!!!!
