Roger Murray should of looked at stats Whittier High school got ROBBED with two players that didnt make the All-Area list Jesse Fonseca LB and Alex Recendez DB. Fonseca was top 2 in tackles the whole season and had the most forced fumbles and fumle recoveries and was involved in almost every play also he had to compete with the rest of the best defense in the DRL. Recendez was top 5 and the next DB was 18 tackles away. Whittier had the most top players in tackles and Fonseca and Recendez were always up there also Robert Campos OLB was in the top. Whittier deserved more defensive players in All-Area.

well chris lopez was solid. but he did in facthave more talent then all the other 1st team linemen. and a WHITTIER guy to tell him this of all peopl?!?! wow. no respect. as a matter of fact he did help win there CIF title last year. give him his credit

Del Rio League Fan for Life said:

It has to be the first time, that the Del Rio league MVP-Burke, is not selected as a first team all-area. He didn't have Hilman and Quezada to dump it off too. Take Burke off that team and they win 5 or 6 games.
Enriquez is all CIF and he doesn't make it either? Turner didn't play half the year.
Malsteade is not even in the same league as they were to their teams.
You put players on the second team that were second team in their own league. Give me a break.

I GO WAY BACK said:

All this talk about Pete Gonzalez at SP makes me wish that SF would clean up their so called football program and start with chucking their great great grandpa, coach m. Things will never change there. But like our new president Obama has said, "change is good". Maybe then they'd win a CIF Championship. Yeah, like that'll ever happen. LOL! I guess winning league over and over and over again is satisfaction enough.

:) said:

Roger Murray has nothing to do with All League or All CIF, he does pick All Area. It is a joke that he picks any All Star Team!!! What I don't understand is with that same article he listed the final Top 5 Area Teams, I believe it went 1. La Habra 2. La Serna 3. Santa Fe 4. Schurr 5. California. Now All Area should represent these picks, shouldn't it???? La Habra had 6 1st Teamers - La Serna had 2 1st Teamers - Santa Fe had 6 1st Teamers - Schurr had 1 1st Teamer - and California had 3 1st Teamers. How does Santa Fe have the same number of 1st Team players as La Habra and be 3rd in the area and lose in the 1st Round of the playoffs! How is Scurr a League Champ, yes lose in the 1st Round but lose to South Hills who was one heck of a 3rd place team and only have the 1 1st Team player? Finally, how does La Serna only have 2 1st Teamers when they are ranked 2nd in Roger Murray's own final rankings, La Serna went farther than Cal in the playoffs and oh yeah BEAT them on the field and yet Cal has one more 1st Team player than La Serna, the fact that Santa Fe had the same number of 1st Teamers as La Habra is just wrong! Roger get off of Jack's lap it is just too funny!

El Rancho Fan said:

I agree that #30 Enriquez should have made all league He was an excellent back and tough as nails. I could be wrong but it’s unprecedented that Mr. Murray was the individual or part of the individuals (coaches) who pick the all league. Now am always going with El Rancho guys because am bias and always in support of them. I do believe you have a strong case for #30. Let’s hope we’ll see him at the local all star games like the 605 or more than one. What He accomplished for his team no one could take from him.

Football Watcher said:

Wow Roger Murray

hahaha you dont want to jump too quickly or verify what you write ,, since when, there has been so many articles and blogs for the past few years that you have published that are so far off base. So please spare the " I want to verify before I jump" , you havent, so why start.

Schurr Fan said:

Watch out for Schurr HS next year!!! They have 1st team all-cif reciever Angel Sanchez #11, and 1st team all-cif cornerback Carlos Arredondo #7 coming back. The spartans will also have a very good junior Quarterback in Aaron Cantu #15 who will look to have a breakout year with the help of his recievers! Nick Castillo #26 looks to also rush for many yards on the ground. WATCH OUT FOR THIS TEAM!!!! THERE GOING TO MAKE A RUN IN THE PLAYOFFS, AND MIGHT EVEN WIN THE CIF CHAMPIONSHIP!

Anonymous said:

WOW! Mr. Murray no disrespect, but I think you need help. How does Turner from S.F. make first team over Enriquez of Whittier HS. I'm a El Rancho fan and I can admit that Enriquez was the DRL best back. Every team defense focused on Enriquez, thats all Whittier had it was no hidden secret and Enriquez still produced. Even go head to head, Whittier held Turner to 70 rushing yards and Enriquez doubled that against S.F. Maybe Turner should have got all-purposoe player because he was dangerous on special teams. Mr. Murray I thouhgt you were a neutral guy, but A. Mahstede 1st team DB, WOW now we know you show extra love to Santa Fe HS and Coach Mahstede, because that is a ridiculous selection. And to the St.Paul nation good move by the principal, Pete was never welcomed from the begining. Good luck in your search. I hear the front runner is Coach Willig.

montebello and schurr fan said:

wow schurr had some good players this year and so did montebello. schurr's d line should have got atleast something like d line of the league or something its a shame only one has to be picked 82,58,99,95,and 15 made teams look dumb like alhambra was treated like kepel team #99 from schurr runs a fumble recovery and gets a td,san gabriel #95 from schurr 2 sacks in the begging of the first quarter and #15 with his coverage, in the bell gardens #58 stopped the run all night with the help of #99 and#95
against south hills the d line was outsized alot but they put up a good fight
#82 from schurr should be one of the best players in this division next year watch out for that kid he's un stopable

just a fan said:

number 7 and number 11 from schurr dont make all
area that's a joke......

Ms. Barr is taking care of business. We'll have to wait and see what awaits SP Football. Its up to the team to step it up. From what I here, all the boys are happy about the news on coach Pete. Maybe the transfers are not to happy because now they have to get their GPA to a 2.5. I know for a fact, one transfer failed all his classes and he still started in the play-off games. Now that's wrong. What does that say about the coach which is also the boys Dean; he's only intrested in the game and does not care about their education.

Del Rio League Fan for Life said:

hey murray,
when are you going to post the all-league selections for the del rio league?

Schurr Dad said:

Duran from schurr should have been 1st team not HM.! He led that defense all year.

Yo, Big Red: I don't jump as quickly on rumors like this for two reasons. I want to be sure that what I pass on to others is what I've either uncovered or verified. We're talking about an individual's life, and such information should not be taken lightly.

Why is everyone talking about Pete G from st. Paul on the other blogs, and there is nothing from you. From what I heard it happened two days ago. At least tell us what you know on the blog. You are soooo slow on giving us news.

RONI said:

Luis Garcia as a DB,you got to be kidding. Pete must have really pushed hard for his boy to be included in this team. The only team he should be on is the All Classless team, with Pete as thier coach

Can you please update the rest of the all-area teams?
You always lagg it compared to RObledo and the Pasadena Star doode.
CMON!

Whittier HS's said:

SP Chris Lopez is lucky to be listed at all, from a no tatented team. Swordsmen bring a better football program. Compete or get out of the sport please.

Curious Where this comes from said:

There are several questions that come up when looking at this all-area team. After seeing a large number of these teams and players play, some of these selections are questionable and probably weren't even the top players for their own teams.
For example, the following:
1) Jacob Nails, Santa Fe (if this was number 75 he was the best d-lineman on that team) Yet he is selected behind another Santa Fe DL.
2) Whittier's Alex Gonzalez played maybe four games. With 45 carries and, I'm guessing, fumbled on 7 of those carries, he's somehow Honorable mention for All-Area??? Yes he looked good running the ball, but let's not crown people for potential here. I thought it was about production
3) Which leads us to Thaddeus Glenn of Whiitier for Honorable Mention. 1 catch and he sure wasn't a dominant blocker. Where was his production?
I speak of Whittier because you wrote several times this year about how their defense carried them, yet we find these guys listed above anyone else defensively. This is just from what I know. How many other picks on this list from other schools are questionable????
p.s.
1.Pioneer may have a valid argument about their all-purpose guy over Santa fe, to top this off.
2. Where is Schurr's WR. That guy tore up South HIlls and just about everyone else????

Del Rio League Fan for Life said:

Congrads to everyone who was selected to the team. Four players who did not make the first team that could or should have are:
1. Geraldo Avila (Cal, LB)- the 2007 Del Rio league MVP, big, fast and a good football player who can play at the next level.
2. Ben Burke (LS,QB)- Career and single season record holder at LS and the Del Rio league 2008 league MVP.
3. Joe Casey (LH,LB)- Good tackler and the heart and sole of the La Habra defense. A good leader and a tough player.
4. Daniel Enriquez (W,RB)- Tough runner, got better every year and rarely took a play off.
Whether they were not selected to the first team or not, they deserved the recognition.

Some Random Chief said:

Adrian Mahlstede first team DB??????? What a JOKE!!!!! Anyone who ran at him was guaranteed at least 5 or 6 yards plus unless one of the safeties would come up and save him. But he’s got great footwork, right dad? Thank the stars he got his moms personality! I’m surprised freshman Christian Mahlstede was on the list as well! That’s right, he was only up for the one debacle of a playoff game in which Burbank ran the ball all over SF. I’d love to review that game film and see how many tackles AM made and how many yards down the field they were. Great job Grandpa for giving our program more credibility.

What the F*** said:

How does Adrian Mahlstede make 1st team? 2nd team, maybe. Honorable mention, sure. That's right, it is Santa Fe, and its a Mahlstede. Roger, get off your knees for goodness sakes!!!!

Whittier HS said:

SP is very lucky that Chris Lopez was listed twice, not a talented team. Chris Lopez is not much of a player. Swordsmen bring a better football program please. And you won’t cry about more attention. Maybe you can’t help but cry. No one is missing one or two players.

Roger Murray Author Profile Page said:

Good catch.
The duplication of Chris Lopez's name was inadvertent. The second acknowledgement did not replace anyone else.

why listed twice said:

Hey Roger you mention The Guy Chris Lopez twice under ST PAUL, did you leave out another player check your list . You might be missing one or two players
and no im not a SP fan

Anonymous said:

Enriquez and Botello should've been 1st team, Enriquez had more yards than Turner and he was also the DRL Offensive MVP. Botello had more all purpose yards and meant more to his team than Oliver but i guess Murray has his favorites(santa fe)

Suggestion said:

Just a suggestion,,,,

Move La Habra DT Anthony Sandoval #94 into that empty spot on 1st team DL, then place DE Eric Padilla #50 onto the 2nd team DL.

Both were instrumental in getting LH to Anaheim Stadium. They were fun to watch and helped shut down/contain some very good players that will be playing on Saturdays at the next level, ie; South Hills' QB Cameron Deen, Westminster' All-Purpose Aaron Garbutt, Los Alamitos' QB Clark Evans, Fullerton's RB Michel Allain, El Dorado's QB Kane Wilson, Tustin's RB Anthony WIlkerson and TE/DE Justice Tuisaga and Chris Robinson.

Overall, pretty good picks.

Why did you list twice said:

Hey Roger under St. Paul You listed Chris Lopez twice making me to believe that you might have missed another player. Please check your list again for the names or name of players you must have missed, Im not even a SP fan but I would hate for some kid not to be listed. Im a mailman, I know when carriers list twice they have omitted someone s name. If I'm wrong so sorry, but please check.

Go Chiefs!!!!

El Rancho said:

Good job Murray; I thought Tate Harshbarger should have been much higher; this kid seems to be involved in every play if not the one making the tackle when he’s on the field. I’m sure the coaches have a much better feel or knowledge of the area players then us fans. Tate keep up the good work! And Josh Perea is a junior. I can’t wait for next season.
