Area football coaching stuff:

| | Comments (47) |

Montebello High school athletic director Tim Murphy confimed Wednesday
morning that football coach Nishil Shah turned in his letter of resignation Friday.
Shah has not returned calls concerning his decision. Murphy said the
school is flying the position through Feb. 12, and then will begin paper
screening applicants.
"We have the brand new facilities and some talent coming back, so I
expect we will get some very good, qualified applicants.

The rumors that former California High School and current Villa Park
football coach Dusan Ancich might be the next St. Paul football coach
can be laid to rest.
A Villa Park spokesperson confirmed Wednesday afternoon Ancich is firmly entrenched as the Spartans' head coach and is already preparing for the coming season. He is
said to be happy at Villa Park, and Villa Park is said to be happy to
have him.

The rumors that persist claiming Dusan's father, Marijon Ancich, will
return as St. Paul's head coach appear to be foolhardy at best since neither he nor
school officials will confirm them and both continue to deny them, well,
in a roundabout manner. The school will continue to fly the positiion
until Feb. 28.

Mark Furman I though you move to Idaho with the kkk? I guess we all missed your return to St. Paul. Now if only SP can not only add peanuts and popcorn to the job but real money, maybe your school can add to its chronicle of a no powerhouse football program.

From Fred Robledo blog:

I just got an email from South El Monte head football coach Erick Escamilla, who is stepping down after 12 years with the Eagles.

ANY CHANCE HE LANDS AT MONTEBELLO

Mark Furman said:

Montebello was a powerhouse?? I guess I missed their CIF title??? Beating El Rancho and Bell Gardens doesn't make you a powerhouse.

I hope they bring Coach Anchich back and give him a co-coach or assistant head coach to mentor before turning back the program to him.

A crazy, crazy rumor on CAL-HI recruting has Coach Anchich coming back and Anthony Barr transferring to St Paul to play where his Mom is the Principal. Now that would be fun to watch!

Local Public Schools that have had success that may have staff members applying: Temple City, Rosemead, San Gabriel, Schurr. You Cannot Lose by Hiring people from those schools. This should get good. Temple City has Backus he said he would still teach at TC but he may move. Rosemead has A.White and the DC Paramo after Koffler stayed. both are great and better yet both are teachers. SG has good Coordinators who are young and also teachers able to do things with the talent they have. Schurr has some good Coordinators but hard ask for a job at the same place you've been doing wrong for years.

I hope MHS makes the right decision its obvious we have some qualified staffs putting in for the job. Please get MHS a great coaching staff we deserve to start winning again. Oiler pride has left Montebello we need to bring it back. From what I understand the St. Paul staff is great hopefully we can get it together.

Hey all you St. Paul haters your wish came true and Coach Gonzalez is no longer the coach. Let us true Oilers be the judge on who we get. I think Coach Gonzalez would be great for MHS, I also know there are other applicants let the best coaching staff get the job. St. Paul people/fans are amazing.

If we could land a great coaching staff at MHS that would be awesome. Our kids deserve to get out there and compete. I'm not pointing fingers its time for a change. If the SP morons don't want their coaches we will glaldly accept them. I hope our administration do the right thing.

***HOT OFF THE LINE***

Anthony Wilson was contacted by SPHS and was told that he could possibly be the next St. Paul’s Football Coach…. If SPHS athletic director thinks that Mr. Wilson is the Answer just look at what he’s done at JGHS, all the tradition that SPHS taught him was copied over to the Eagles. Still the kids at Glenn didn't have the heart and had a losing season again!!!

yoyo said:

why not hire someone that is sitting in your back yard....Mike Mayoral(4 almont league championships and cif title) is still at Schurr High School he had alot of success with the same kind of kids....Randy Sanchez(d-coordinator at Schurr won cif title) would work with Mayoral and maybe even Joe jordan (o-coordinator when schurr won cif title)would come out of retirement to coach....Keep in mind that these coaches mentioned have won with the same type of kids that attend montebello.....Yes ST. paul won a CIF championship with a bunch of kids that transfered to ST.paul...to win at Schurr Montebello Bell gardens you have to be able to coach what you have!!! good luck oilers

Howell said:

Not gullible, the thing that is puzzling is that the information was told directly from his mouth. He doesnt know who I am so why would he lie to me. If he is lying than that is on him. Was just wondering why he would want that job if he had these other offers.

concerned person said:

talk about recruiting, St. Paul won their championship after recruiting that running back from Diamond Ranch. A senior with much positive experience. If you look at a few of their "clutch" victories late in the game, i believe it was him breaking off big TD's.

This past season they got 2 good Mayfair players.

Worry Big Time said:

There needs to be a state or federal investigation at St. Paul, something is truly wrong when comments like Howell are made. Those are thoughts a regular mind can’t just make up.

spguy08 said:

also Casey Morales has already coached at the division 1 level so wrong already and don't be surprised if some assistants end up at different d1 schools this year

spguy08 said:

does 1 good year include the season before they won the championship when they went to the semi finals?

Oilerville said:

Beware?

Are you serious? How can you say we should not bring in these coaches? You must be out of tune with HS football. First, they won a title last year. Second made it to the finals the year before. That's all i'm saying . Right now there the most qualified. Sounds to me like a personal reason is your reason to not accept. I'm looking at the school as a alumni. Put all your personal feelings aside and help here. In case your wondering, MHS has sucked the last decade.
As for the guy making all those remarks regarding these guys coaching at college level. Don't speak on someone's behalf. I also know these coaches and have never heard them speak about college jobs. I really feel their passion is at the HS level. I really feel this will be a good fit . Reason being, Pete Gonzales is a career Montebello guy. I think he went to Cantwell and know he grew up at Grant Rea Park. He has strong ties to the community. I also know that if he gets the job he will make our boys believe in themselves. Just like at St.Paul. Do the right thing, hire these guys. They know how to win!!

TheeKing said:

Howell are you kidding? Pete Gonzalez nor ANY St. Paul coaches could coach at the D-I level. THEY DIDNT EVEN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS LAST YEAR!!!!! THEY HAD ONE GOOD YEAR AS SOMEONE IN THIS BLOG SAID ALREADY!Sorry to See Shah go. Theyve got to hire someone outside and rebuild

SP Hater said:

I have a sweet piece of land for you. Please tell us your joking?

MHS 1994 said:

We need a great coach and someone who wants to succeed in football, whomever that might be. If Gonzalez wants us we will take him. Come on MHS just hire the right person.

Hank the Dwarf said:

Howell, please tell me you're kidding. You can't be that gullible, can you? I doubt Pete ever coaches on the D1 level, let alone in college.

Howell said:

I am curious to ask why Coach Gonzalez from SP would even want the job at Montebello. On several occasions I spoke to him and he has told me that Pete Carroll, Rick Neuheisel(sp?)and Steve Sarkisian had inquired about his services to coach with them at the collegeiate level. He also mentioned how Servie and Loyola had called him to see if he was interested in accepting a co-head coach position. Not a knock on the Montebello program but I believe with opportunities like that why would someone even consider this lower tier position. I don't really know Coach Pete but I don't think he would lie to me about those opportunities so I am just curious as to why he would want that job...

Beware said:

Oilerville,

Those St.paully Coaches you are talking about didnt even make it to the playoffs last year. How can the community get behind coaches who had one good year, dont have the proper teaching credentials 'Gonzalez and Jimenez`, and who have thrown their hats in the ring for every opening since being FIRED? These are the Coaches that have been stealing players out of our community for years and now they want to come into our house? NO WAY! Keep these desperate recruiters away from our kids and out of my community.

prep fan said:

Careful what you wish for Oiler fans, your next coach alresdy teaches at your school. J_ s _ _ C _ r _ _ n.
He got run out of an EastSide school.
Also, on the subject of teaching, the credibility of a good and caring teacher is not always measured by a piece of paper. My daughters have attended Catholic institutions all their school years and they've done great. Also, I was public school kid who struggled to graduate from HS. My point is there are a few shitty teachers everywhere, but most teachers do care so long as the kids apply themselves.

Oilerville said:

Beware and any other,

I have been apart of Montebello Football for over 25 years . I went there and graduate and also played football. People, get real! We should bring in someone who has a good football mentality. That's what the school is lacking. Who cares about all that other garbage. We want a football coach. Someone with the knowledge of winning a CIF title. Someone who know's how to get there. We need to step outside and hire a qualified coach. Weather it be one of those SP guys then so be it. I want my son to experience the joys of winning. Those last few years at Montebello have been terrible. It's time to bring a Championship home. Hire the SP guy he knows how to win. The community should get behind this and support our school. Good football not only brings success to the school, but also brings the kids back where they should be. OILERVILLE!

What our OILERS need is some young blood in there. someone who will grow with the program. Not these coaches who's names have been ran through the mud on these blogs, been dismissed by administration at their own schools (that eliminates TC and SP), and someone as the Eye said has the proper credentials. Teaching credentials that is! DO NO FORGET HE MUST BE A TEACHER WALK ON COACH = DEATH (no one is dumb enough to do it) and CLASSIFIED COACH = DEATH (look at what happened at Wilson, not the one on the hill, the HH's one)

Even though these past years MHS has not has success on the field the grades of the students have gone up and parent involvement and fundraising could not be better. All from a Teacher on Campus. Be Smart Fellow Oilers! We Need Some New Young Blood!

Observer, can you please tell me why St. Paul with all these great Coaches were all fired this past season and why they failed to -Make the Playoffs- this past season. We here at Montebello are trying to Improve!!!!!!! Montebello please look at the staffs at Temple City or Rosemead.

BEWARE said:

PLEASE Mr. Murphy DO NOT HIRE THESE "RECRUITERS" from private schools. We have athletes already here and do not wish to bring the problems of recruiting and uncredentialed teachers such as Jimenez and Gonzalez to our sidelines. Please Hire a teacher that will affect our boys on and off the field. Not someone who will bring in outside kids and bring us under the microscope of the CIF!!!!!! ~~~ PLEASE

NO GONZALEZ NO JIMENEZ NO ST. PAUL

The Eye said:

A short note on hiring coaches - Montebello will most likely hire a coach that can teach on campus. That means the coach must have a credential in the subject he/she will teach AND there needs to be an opening in that subject. Is the recently resigned Montebello coach also resigning from teaching? Do any of the St. Paul coaches have the appropriate credential (or any credential - they are not required at Private Schools, only preferred)? And, for the person saying the program would be doomed with the hiring of the former St. Paul staff, can the program get any worse?

OH NOOOOOOOOO said:

If you bring in the St.Paul Staff Montebello is DOOMED!!!!

PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING AND GET SOME NEW BLOOD IN THERE! THAT WONT BE UNDER INVESTIGATION WITH THE CIF OR THE ADMINISTRATION THERE!!!!!

NO ST. PAUL COACHES, HAVEN'T THERE TAINTED OUR AREA ENOUGH??!?!?!?

Could it be that maybe Murray was too busy to cover your parade? So be happy that OC register did. There’s no crying in football. So CLAN DAD talk to the coach and schedule us and we’ll have a huge parade.

Do you know the AD at montebello, this guy is by the book. There is no going outside the book, there is no bending of the book. There will be no surprise transfers from other schools, no F bombs during the games. So what Iam saying is Pete will not win here.

SF said:

No qualified person wants the St Paul job. Unless a young person or someone with a second income. There as to be to some kind of carrot. A coach that has “capital “needs to receive profit in return.

Curious said:

Feb. 28? That has to be a mistake, right? They cant fly the position for two months. Also you cant have a program like this without a coach until March. That would be a huge mistake.
Is There any news on who is applying for the job?

FOOTBALL FAN said:

Thats interesting news.

Montebello football fans are you ready to have a CHAMPIONSHIP type coaching staff to prepare your players to compete for a league and CIF Championship. Well here comes Pete Gonzalez and his staff from St.Paul. They will teach these guys all aspects of fundalmentals regarding football and really put them in the best position to beat Schurr and playoff teams such as Charter Oaks,South Hills and so on in the SouthEastern Conference. Montebello do the right and bring in Pete and his staff and you will not regret it. Oh, you SP haters who think you got rid of Pete, let him do his thing without problems from you. Look on your schedule in the next few years when Pete brings Montebello up to speed.

In the know... said:

Rumar has it that the entire SP staff will be making a big push for that Montebello job.
