Patience a virtue when selecting a new coach

| | Comments (35) |

Montebello and St. Paul high schools are looking for head football
coaches.
Sounds simple enough.
Place some ads seeking applicants, do a little paper screening,
couple of interviews and presto, you're in business.
It would seem in some local circles that the only criteria for
consideration is how well did the guy do on his last job?
Folks posting on the blogs seem bent on criticizing/praising
perspective candidates not so much on whether their teams played hard
and were competitive regardless of the outcome but rather on how many
CIF championships have they won?. And how recently?
Apparently content to ignore the theory that coaches coach and players
play, it would appear that the school's talent pool had little to do
with it.
This approach could cause some some talented and otherwise qualified
applicants to be overlooked. Fortunately, the selection of the
replacement coaches isn't up to the bloggers, several of whom have their
own agenda.
Rest assured, the folks in charge of making the decision in these
situations are experienced in such things and the responsibility is in
good hands.

I really like the colors here on your blog. did you design this yourself or did you outsource it to a professional?

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Drake Griffin has already transferred to LB Poly good luck Drake!!!!

SP Uncle said:

Hey Santa Fe :

Did Drake Griffin go join his friend Elkington at La Habra???? - they played Pop Warner and Freshman ball together.

Hey Roger where did he go?

In the know said:

Markus & Drake didn't have a choice. Coach Pete was paying their tuition. Kids don't leave SP because they're unhappy. It's always because of financial reasons.

SantaFe said:

St.Paul better hurry I hear there losing some good football players including Markus Viramontes he's back @ (Santa Fe) and they also lost Drake Griffin.

New Guy or sports fan; you’re assuming or suggest that something is true or exist, especially as the basis of your argument or theory. No way in hell Mazzotta or any one from the Ancich family tree wants to coach at SP? Just listen to CLAN DAD. Remember Mazzotta’s kids go to the better school La Habra not St. Paul, why? Like Murray said wishful thinking. So reload your theory, a union labor that works with his hands makes more dough, qwan than 30k’s.LoL

New Guy said:

I heard its in the 'hood of 20-30K.....St Paul alumni, stand together now...kick down the qwan....donate the dough...make this happen, this could be a reloading phase, not rebuilding.......the Ancich touch is what is missing. If you build it, he will come (or they in this case).......Swordsmen, what say shall you???????????

CLAN DAD said:

I would have to agree with you Mr. Murray. Mazzotta is staying at La Habra. The man is 'writing his own book' over there.

Yo, sports fan: Is this just wishfull thinking, or are you just filliing time? Mazzotta is quite comfortable, not to mention successful, in his present position.
In other words, not a chance, Neither father nor the son.

Mazzotta to St. Paul

St. Paul said:

OK its obvious both of you wants the Ancich bros but do you guys really know how much money it will take? It’s not just pay, but benefits and stability that public schools give. Hey if you guys get it done, more power to you both.

% Swords % said:

New guy I agree 100% yes it will take money lets all pitch in. We can get alot of the alumn to give. Our school could still rule!!!!!!!! I think Mr. Murray is going to post it soon.

New guy here said:

St Paul NEEDS to get the $$$ together and make the Ancich Bros an offer they can't refuse. Bring them home, bring them back, and they WILL BRING not one Championship, BUT MANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WDN FAN said:

What are the realistic expectations for the new Oiler coaching staff during the 09 season?

1 No difference (4-6)
1. Somewhat competative (6-4)
2. make the playoffs (7-3)
3 League championship (8-2)
4 Win a guarter-final game (9-1)
5. CIF contender (10-0)

SP said:

In less there’s a break? The position at SP might easily go to March or April? The pay is crucial. But they got to do the right thing.

How many days in February said:

In the Know; you could not be more off base, the fundamental principal of information is truth. And not theory but the main ingredient reality. The school has not narrowed it down than five applicants, and is still considering one more applicant.

In the Know said:

Applications are already in and closed. It was January 30th (or 31st if anybody was working Saturday). And I;m glad someone finally questioned FEB 31st. That should of been a dead give away. But then again reading some of these blogs , you people probably don't even know how many days February has.

Roger Murray Author Profile Page said:

Yo, What???: Hmmmm, youre right. Let's make that Feb. 28.

What??? said:

Yo Murray....FEB. 31st????????? You are going to be waiting a long time, goofball!!!!!

Hum Worry said:

Anchich will bring “funds “but he’s asking a whole lot. If the school raises a lot of money and it goes to coach’s pocket, how is that helping the school? Coach has always demanded more than the teachers. Let’s hope Barr is strong enough.

Cal Hi said:

I think not, that school is beyond the border of no return. If they can’t get qualified teachers, there up a creek. For St. Paul it’s not simple.

Roger Murray Author Profile Page said:

Yo, Santa Fe: Indeed, it may be the most difficult job of all. But it would seem there is a time element involved here, and waiting (not second guessing) until Feb. 31 to close applications would seem to be a bit of a drawback when considering that, according to one source, increasing enrollment is paramount. Without rushing to judgment considering the process, naming football's replacement coach as soon as possible would seem to be advantageous, particularly concerning fundraising.

Roger Murray Author Profile Page said:

Yo, Class of 1983: You aren't the first to wonder about that.

Santa Fe said:

Murray with all the repair work or re-construction that is needed at St. Paul the principal has the most difficult job of all. And yes it’s not to bloggers, but in decision making St. Paul finally has that good hands person Mrs. Barr. Maybe SP can be respected again? Because of pay MHS path is a little easier.

Class of 1983 said:

I got my quarterly newsletter from St Paul HS today and the headline read

" Coach Anchich is BACK!!!

to the newly formed Development Council and not as Head Coach ....or at least not yet.

Principal Barr heads the Development Council and its nice to see her and Coach Anchich working together to raise funds from alumni.

But makes me wonder if she and he have discussed him coming back for 1-2 years.............just wondering
