Montebello tabs Pete Gonzalez to lead football program
Pete Gonzalez, fired by St. Paul High School because the team making it to the CIF-SS semifinals his first season and winning a CIF championship in his second year wasn't good enough, has been named head coach at Montebello High School.
Gonzalez is said to be bringing most of his staff with him, sans offensive line coach Casey Morales, who remains at the school as its head baseball coach, and defensive coordinator Gilbert Jimenez, who is seeking employment elsewhere.
Gonzalez was one of 18 applicants for the Oilers' job, nine of whom were interviewed.

ITS TO MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE NEW HEAD COACH OF MHS HAS A BACKGROUND.... AND WHAT IS IT!!!! I HAVE READ ALL THE NEWS PAPER CLIPS AND SEEN MANY BLOGS ABOUT THIS GUY...BUT KNOWONE REALLY IS SAYIN FACTS WHY HE LEFT ...? WHY SOO MANY WERE UPSET?....TRUTH! I DONT KNOW HIM PERSONALLY AND NEVER SEEN HIM COACH ....BUT WHATEVER HE DOSE LETS JUDGE HIM FOR WHAT HE CAN DO AND WHAT HE HAS FAILED TO DO .....AFTER THE SEASON!!!!! I DO KNOW THAT MONTEBELLO NEEDED SOMETHING!!! NO DISRESPECT TO MY FRIENDS WHO COACHED THE OILERS LAST YEAR I UNDERSTAND YOU HAD YOUR HANDS TIED. NOW WE AS OLIERS NEEDED A NEW FACE AND TO BE KEEP IT REAL THE ONLY OTHER PERSON I COULD SEE WOULD BRING BACK THAT TRADITION TO MHS WOULD BE COACH RHINN....AND THAT WASNT GONNA HAPPIN ANYTIME SOON. AS A OILER CLASS OF 99 I HAVE SEEN THE RISE AND FALL OF OILERVILL.. I HAVE SPILT BLOOD FOR THIS SCHOOL AND HAVE GIVIN EVERTHING I HAD TO OILERVILL ...AND SO HAS MANY OF MY BROTHERS OUT THERE!!!! I BELIVE WE NEED A COACH WHO THE KIDS WILL PLAY FOR AND WILL FEEL THEY CAN BE LED TO VICTORY!!! WHEN I DRIVE BY MHS I SEE YOUNG MEN PUSHING THEMSELVES TO THE MAX FOR A MAN WHO KNOWS VERY LITTLE OF THEM . I WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT THERE WONT BE ANY SPECIAL TREATMENT TO ANYONE...JUST HARD WORK.. HOPE TO BELIVE THAT THERE WONT BE ANY KIDS WHO HAVE PAYED TO PLAY JUST YOUNG MEN WHO LOVE THE GAME AND I HOPE THAT IF AND WHEN OILERVILL COMES BACK ON THE RISE YOU NASAYERS KEEP YOU OPINIONS BECAUSE WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT...IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU,ME, THIS NEW COACH, BUT ABOUT THE BOYS WHO ARE OUT THERE GIVING EVERYTHING THEY HAVE JUST AS SO MANY OF US DID BEFOR THEM
well here we go all these arguements jimenez was a good coach a teacher more or less but instilled values in the players they should not have teaching them to hurt someone which is a fact i have played for him and the old pete gonzales staff. There coaching ability is questionable they do not i repeat do not show catholic morals coach jimenez would not show up to mass or the rosary before the games this season shall prove a test no favorites no transfers just the best of the best who want to play football and you know this team will have heart not size and o they look big. and people grow up dont pretend to be someone your not thats all for now

Hey Olier Alumni Assoc,
I wonder if your the one former coach from last years staff that was caught bad mouthing the Administration in the coaches office the other day without knowing that Athletic Director Murphy was in the next room. Well if that is you, your day`s are numbered buddy. Go to Saint Paul and ask the old man for a job because they only have 5 coaches on the varsity staff. You would do very well there (NOT)
GO BIG BLUE AND GOLD
Hey OILER ALUMNI ASSOC.,
Do yourself a favor & don't include all of us from the alumni in your allegations. I know Coach Gonzalez personally so here is your chance to tell everyone who is the person that his family knows that got him the job?
I will set the record straight right now that his parents are graduates of Montebello but so am I & it means nothing. Coach Gonzalez was given the opportunity & we are true Oilers & loyal to the ones in charge.
So, where is your Oiler pride I mean if you are a TRUE Oiler you would agree but your full of hate. Wait a minute are you another "anonymous" coward like the others?
Instead of opening your big mouth behind a computer why don't you go to MHS & see the 90+ kids out there right now. Sorry...no one is going anywhere maybe your thinking of another school? Get a life!
Oiler Alumni Assoc,
Please calm down, Coach Gonzales is starting fresh with the whole student body by allowing all to come and join the football team. They have to work as hard as the returning players. Weight and study hall. Maybe there is a couple of good athletes in this bunch that just needed a chance, what`s wrong with that. As for kids looking to leave the for other schools you are surely wrong. Give names. The majority of these kids are very happy with the new coaching staff and their plans to whip these young men in to shape for the 2009 season. Look why don`t you be supportive and not be a problem for this program. Oh I know, that will only happen when they Win League and go to the playoffs.
OK GO BIG BLUE AND GOLD
I have very good knowledge that Coach Gonzalez did not get the job because of his ability, but because of who he and his family know. That is very sad because we have a strong pride in our future generation of Oilers that is about to be tarnished. He has been allowing everyone to join the team this week, no matter what their grades are!!! Coach Shah may have not been the best coach, but he cared a lot for the players and "OILER PRIDE". What is going on in Oilerville? We had some very great candidates for the job, but instead you gave it to your mijo. One question: Why are so many players quitting, or trying to transfer out? "THANKS ADMINISTRATION"
ITS FUNNY HOW ALL THESE RUMORS GET STARTED ABOUT ME I AM NOT GOING TO MHS AND I WILL BE PLAYING AT SFHS NEXT SEASON PLEASE STOP ALREADY ARE YOU GUYS THAT INTO ME YOU GUYS ARE GROWN ASS ADULTS ACT LIKE IT AND GET OF MY SACK AND AS FOR THE PEOPLE SAYING I DIDNT MAKE GRADS CHECK YOUR SOURCES WE HEAVENT HAD A REPORT CARD YET SO HOW WOULD YOU KNOW AND AS FOR ME NOT MAKING THEM AT ST PAUL I DID OR ELSE I WOULDNT HAVE PLAYED THE LAST 2 GAMES SO ALL OF YOU CHECK YOUR SOURCES AND AS FOR YOU GROWN ASS MEN STOP POSING AS ME ARE YOU GUYS THAT JEALOUS OF ME OR DO YOU JUS SIMPLY WANT TO BE ME
MARKUS VIRAMONTES
first things first the guy or little boy who keeps posing as Markus Viramontes you really need to stop dude && if you want to pose as him get all your FACTS straight cause it's pretty obvious you have no idea what your talking about. I am one of his closest friends and i know for a fact that he did NOT talk to coach pete and he is NOT going to MHS! so seriously do everyone a favor on the blogs and stop your childish games cause in the end your only going to make your self look really stupid!
as for all your sphs alums im not trying to mean but i am truely embarassed to say that i went to sphs. all of you people are showing your true colors. enough is enough show some freaking class.stop acting like damn 2 year olds and the heck up already.who cares what Markus or anyone else did.worry about your self and your own kids for once.
I SPOKE TO COACH PETE AND MAYBE IF HE CAN GET ME IN AT MONTEBELLO I MIGHT GO THERE!
MARKUS VIRAMONTES #32
There is "ONE HUGE CONSISTENCY" on these blogs. All of them. SAINT PAUL PEOPLE HAVE THE WORST WRITING SKILLS OF ALL THE BLOGGERS. Man, St. Paul should be good at sports. Do the athletes spend any time in the classroom? By their writing in these blogs, it appears not!
Hey, about grades he will still have to make grades. But SF won’t hide the fact if he didn’t. Now let’s think back when (not long ago) SP did hide and promoted two kids who were signing with some big college schools and ended in summer school at SP, than at a close by JC College and SP blame the kids. #22 SF "now" will have to make grades!! And if he doesn’t we will help him if he “can” play football or not.
Markus do me a favor don`t get caught up with these morans that want to sturrup drama. I know what you can do. Markus, you have truly grown as a young man and football player. Remember who cares what people think, as long as you our happy with yourself, things will be fine. I`ll keep track of you in your Senior year and be a leader on and off the field. Good luck to you and Santa Fe football team in 2009.
WHOEVER IS POSING AS ME PLEASE STOP YOUR AN IDIOT I WOULD NEVER DOWN TALK ANY OF THE ST PAUL COACHES ESPECIALLY COACH MONSTER EVERYTHING I DID ON THE DEFENSIVE SIDE OF THE BALL WAS BECAUSE OF HIM THANKS COACH MONSTER FOR EVERYTHING AND I HOPE YOU KNO I WOULD NEVER TALK DOWN TO LIKE THAT DUMBASS WHOS TRYING TO POSE AS ME MARKUS VIRAMONTES #22
THAT WASNT ME WHO WROTE THAT LAST COMMENT ALL OF OUR COACHES ARE GREAT I WOULD LIKE TO THANK COACH JIMENEZ AND COACH MONSTER THEY BOTH HELPED ME ACCOMPLISH ALL MY GOALS AND YES I WIL BE PLAYING AT SANTA FE IL BE NUMBER 22
Viramonts couldn’t make grades! Plus he never really recover from his injury. Everyone knew he wouldn’t be the same. You have to have a linebacker who could go full speed.
WHAT ABOUT HIM? HE'S A COOL CAT BUT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT GOOD COACHES! MONTEBELLO WILL SUCK WITHOUT COACH JIMENEZ AND MO! IM TRYING TO GET BACK TO SP!
MARKUS VIRAMONTES #32
Markus, what about coach Monster, dosen`t he get any credit. Oh, by the way how`s the toe and are you going to play football at Santa Fe, if you are good luck. Remember keep those grades up.
To all SP "crybabies",
don't worry about what goes on @ MHS is right mind your own business because you all SP crybabies just talk alot of crap & looks like you have enough to worry about at SP.
You losers have nothing better to do & as I read this junk I think when can we talk some real football?
So let's get this started OILERVILLE can't wait until spring practice...GO OILERS...BIG BLUE & GOLD...2009
JIMENEZ WAS A GREAT COACH HE IS ST PAUL NO COACH WILL HAVE THE EFFECT ON THE KIDS AS JIMENEZ DID.HE TAUGHT US FOOTBALL BUT HE ALSO TAUGHT US LIFE LESSONS I LOVE JIMENEZ HE IS THE BEST COACH THERE IS NOBODY CAN MESS WITH THAT GUY I LOVE YOU COACH GOOD LUCK WHEREVER YOU LAND KEPPEM GOING LOL
MARKUS VIRAMONTES #32
Sports fan; I think it your mouth, SP doesn’t need your stupid, I know every school and whats should take place. You might get some fxxls to go along but Jimenez was more than a mouth he was our leader. You don’t know what we at St Paul go throw. Ancich wont share the field. My uncle told me to go to pioneer but I am a catholic. This should be a good year.
who cares whos leading their practice hopefully no one!!!!lets hope everyone gets a chance this year and no favorites.SP will be good.
to Swordsman
If Jimenez is that good, I would think Ancich would be all over him, trying to get him back to coach the Defense. Is he? I know Jimenez knows his stuff. If I remember correctly, the defense led the way in their championsip season. If he winds in a "weaker program" as an assistant, then I wonder what happened. If that does occur, then I would predict "his mouth"
Hey "Swordsmen" The SP QB is not leaving neither are the running backs. They are very happy at SP.
But, I was just wondering who's running the the Spring practice at MHS??? If all the Varsity staff is still at SP??? Just wondering...
Montebello is there a fieldhouse close by? Jimenez&Morales did the job. Everyone knows are Coach A is only going boost enrollment, but the lost of Pete is God sent!!! So if the SP QB does leave, and two runningbacks it won’t make a difference. I think more guys will play. No more firehouse, I hope Oilers you can’t and don’t have one.
Hey SP Alumni,
Dude first of all I'm not your brother & seriously do you know how to spell or are you just so pissed & bitter at life that your brain thinks faster than your fingers??? LOL... Don't worry about what I'm doing because you have enough on your plate to worry about!!
Late..LOL...
Big Unk is one of our SP faithfuls but unfortanetly he sometimes acts like a Big Kid. We at SP do wish Coach Gonzalez and his staff the best of luck. Once again we thank you for your time and dedication and I hope you can bring Montebello High School their championship. Not everybody at SP are idiots.
Said,
you must know some of the haters from ST.Paul, because you sure do sound like one. Do MHS a favor and stay away. Go to ST.Paul and be miserable. Just because you played football does not mean you know anything about what it takes to build a culture of winning. Stop listening to haters and have an original opinnion on the situation that has fact not fiction. Starting rumors will only make you a bitter and lonely person in the end. just like the ST.Paul haters and Administration. Unk, maybe you can contribute to MHS football as the new Mascot, because you sure enough cannot offer anything else to the school, staff, and kids. GOOO BIG BLUE AND GOLD.
SP brother here’s nother dager you must have forgot SP is not only changing its ways but a lot of things. But you wont be apart of it, please don’t let the door hit you on the way out!!!!!!!
So Past SP Parent goodby!!!!!!
This is some great stuff being said about MTB new coaching staff.Love him or hate him there is no middle ground when it comes to good old Coach G. I remember when I was one of the first to criticize Coach G a couple years ago and there were'nt many of us.This should be a very interesting season coming up.As a former Oiler player I would like to see MTB be competative and have a respectable season.Games against rivals BG,Schurr and ER not to mention San Gabriel are going to be this coach's defning moments this season and those to come (if he lasts that long).Hold this coach's feet to the fire fellow Oilers and will see at the end of the season if this is truly who we need as a coach.
Hey SPAlumni: First you should learn how to spell like the rest of them but the only sorry people are yourselves because you talk out of your @$$! All of you are sick & throw daggers wherever you can...
I am a current SP parent & the only correct thing you said was about Coach A but I am so unhappy with the school & how bad you all treat each other I'm leaving because of the faculty/staff/administration/parents not the coaches or the kids...Oh well...
I just heard that Chuck Willig was introduced to the football team yesterday. Congrads to SP and the best of luck because from I have heard in the past that Chuck and Anhich didn't see eye to eye. Alex Espinosa is coming back for the QB's. Where has Alex coach recently? I also know Salesian High School is upset to say the least that the Chuck committed too them not once but twice and still left for SP. Let's see ANCICH, CHUCK, ALEX AND BARR and let's throw in the AD Mark = very interesting season. Oh, lets also throw in the football officials that already walk on the field with attitude and let's remember all the coaches that Coach A had problems with= = = Very Interesting Season......
Dang you people from SP are something else. SHUT UP we dont care about your problems or your opinions. People who go to SP act like their so high and mighty and at the end of the day your pathetic sour people.
Once again good luck this year MHS, we only have one way to go and that's up. Lets go!!
Fieldhouse?
You people are wrong, I was with Pete in the fieldhouse and he was working on the flight plan for the next Space Shuttle launch. Is that a better explaination for you sorry people. Will you believe anything that is written. I'm convinced that you people are so demented that you should seek medical help.
As for Coach Pete begging for Gil to coach with him, wrong again! Coach Andy will take the defense and he is ready. No doubt about it. Sp people are so childish and inmature it's sad. Pete and his staff are gone and you people are still crying about him. Sounds to me like you people have bigger worries with Anchich.
SP parent, your son will be on the pine again. Third string last year, maybe second this year.Maybe....
Coach Pete & staff in case you even bother reading this garbage because unfortunately at the moment I am because when stupid people do & say stupid things someone has to do the RIGHT thing!
Again, I agree with the Past SP parent that there are only a few bad apples at SP!!! Your staff put us back on the map whether they like or not again those people are just JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Get a life people we were able to once again get bragging rights when we won the championship...
The only people that are full of excuses can't see the truth too bad!!!! Don't worry about the kids coach if they go or not it's completely their decision it happens everyday, everywhere and those who do not know it are choosing not to see it...grow up...
There are only a few bad apples in the bunch at SP & a few that can't spell but Coach Pete & staff thank you for putting us back on the map! The people that slander all of your accomplishments and name-call your staff are envious there is no other explanation!
Keep doing what you are doing because it is obviously working. LOL... Good luck to you & your staff!!!
GO OILERS..
Taking care of stuff in the fieldhouse during practice time, hmm thats interesting. I dont even want to know what he was taking care of probably a reason as to why he was let go. I have never heard of a highschool coach being in the fieldhouse or firehouse while his team is practicing. The kids played for Jimenez and Morales not for Pete. I just want to hear all the excuses that are going to be made when he comes back with a four and six record at Montebello. Pete also stay away from my son he doesn't want to play at crappy Montebello! SP will be a better place without you.
current parent said:
Mr. Murray - let me first say that you don't have the slightest idea what the real story is. Reaching the semifinals and winning a championship are great, but these victories are lessened when you have a coach whose moral conduct, inability to communicate with players and overall disposition are less than respectable. Don't try to defend him. Ask the majority of players and parents and believe me, this was Ms. Barr's best decision so far. His behavior was an embarrassment to St. Paul and kids need to have respect for their coaches, not just a championship. Good Luck Montebello...it is hard to change someone's character.
Current parent: Wake up because I sure did SP administration is a joke not their coaches! The administration makes up lies about each other, causes drama & then pretends they never said a thing when confronted. Remember attitude reflects leadership...
The SP football team this past year separated from the administration & you can thank Ms. Barr for that because she did not even show up to our banquet last year! Coach Pete & staff do not sugarcoat anything if you practice hard, take care of your studies & stay out of trouble you will play on Friday nights simple as that & I know this for a fact & it made my son a better player & person.
Good luck coach Pete & staff we will see you at MHS!!!
Go Oilers...
Hey All CIF!!!
Don't speak for all of us I was part of that team & I was a captain! Coach Pete was in the fieldhouse taking care of everything else you don't have a clue about because it takes more than yelling & screaming on the field like Coach Jimenez was known to do during the games & sometimes it was embarassing he stuck out like a soar thumb compared to all the other coaches. So speak the truth dude Coach Pete kept that ship in line!!! As far as him begging Coach Jimenez DOUBT IT. Coach Pete doesn't beg anyone & if you REALLY played for him you would know that dude!
Way to go Coach Pete & staff thanks for everything. Good luck!
Listen your comments about removing gum is wrong; and rebuilding the library is just find. I ask how many times should we buy computers? And yes she not only looks great she is great and will continual to bring change. You don’t have to hope we wiil be better. So please take care of your own skeletons. Go SP!!!!!!!!! Coach pete good by, you never cared for our school.
I played for Pete in 07, ask all of the other players who the Capt. of that ship was? Without coach Jimenez and Coach Mo Pete aint winning a damn thing. Good luck to Montebello I heard Pete is begging Coach Jimenez to go with him because he knows he wont win without him. Pete was never at our practices he was always hanging out in the field house doing who knows what. Anyway I am happy that he is Montebellos problem and not ours. Peace
When said:
When are people going to realize that Gonzalez DID NOT win the CIF title!!!!
THE KIDS DID.
Gonzalez better thank his lucky stars he got his name associated with winning anything in the Playoffs.
POOR CHOICE MONTEBELLO and Murray Maybe you should talk to people in the community about Gonzalez before you start praising him like he's the next Shortbardi!
*HEY WHEN*
You obviously have never been part of a TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More)???
Whether you choose to recognize it or not Coach Pete Gonzalez, Football Staff & players DID win the CIF title!!! It takes preparation from all aspects of the game to WIN!!! There are no lucky stars to thank because EVERYONE worked hard from the start!!!
I'm speaking from the community & I am praising him because if he could accomplish what he did at SP in 2 years that other coaches don't achieve in a LIFETIME.
I know he is dedicated to accomplish the ultimate anywhere he goes GREAT choice MHS!!!
Hey Sparta you want to see pop warner coaches keep going to Schurr games! By the way Schurr dominance over Montebello is over now that Coach G & his staff are in town!! Go Oilers
If you’re Alumni- Parent? Hum!! And you’re not playing the race card, you are the card. How stupid can a person be? If you’re at a boring game with neighborhood kids playing their hearts out and still attend those games for 15 years. Oh I know because you live there and can’t step out of the box.
You say you were involved in everything with the school, but can’t spell; you’re not a SP kid? please. All the schools you mention I don’t think the Pittsburgh Steelers could play those teams in the same year lol.
Listen buy or steal a vehicle and experience the whole world outside of boring Montebello. You will be doing all of us an enormous favor. Now for the “GODS” @ Mater Dei..if you ever read the newspaper you would know they have a few huge problems of their own, so instead of looking for greener grass try watering the grass around you.
People come to this blog to is learn all hearsay that might not be coverd in the paper. Is anything written here really important?
hey pete now that your there now youcan bring over some of those talented freshmen players from st paul especially that freshman qb and the running back good luck on the season
The only ring Montebello will see is the tainted one Gonzalez wears on his thumb! And he is also the proud owner of the worst record in SP history, good riddance. I cant wait to hear what mess he gets into at Montebello. Im glad we will get to kick his butt year in and year out.
What is wrong with you SP people?
I too went to SP and learned a few things along the way myself. First, have respect for people! Do you people think it's funny to sit there and slander the former coach? All your info is second hand. I know this because I work at the school. I have seen what goes on there and I must say that 95% of what's being said is false. The other 5% is speculation.
I must say that the real reason the alumni and Ms.Barr don't like coach is because he doesn't kiss any ones behind. Those are facts! Coach spent more time at that school then most students, alumni, faculty members. It's just sad to see that people have no moral fortitude when it comes to someone's else life. All people have skeleton's in there closet. SP alumni and parents should know better. If your happy that's he's gone, then so be it. You don't have to prove yourself through slanderous comments. It doesn't matter. He's gone now. Let it be. You people sound like bitter parents. If your child was good enough then he would of played. You never hear any starters crying or making foul comments. It's just the same pattern of parents who sat in the stands on Friday nights praying that there son would get some playing time.
As for Ms.Barr, do you people know that the first thing she did with SP money was remove all the gum off the school grounds. To a cost of 50K! I can think of a million things more important like rebuilding the library. Buying computers for the students. So before you go off talking about how good she is, look at her track record. The only thing good about her is her looks. like I said everyone has skeletons.
To coach Gonzalez, I just want to say thanks to you for the last ten years as a co-worker and a coach. It's good to know that other people noticed. I know in my heart that you will give your all and be a loyal coach to the Montebello faithful. You are better off somewhere esle. I only mean that in a good way. The people at SP have a lot of growing up to do. I just hope that our school will survive, because right now it looks very grim....
Yo, WDN,
Montebello administrators are not forthcoming with that information, which is pretty common procedure in such matters. Aside from personal curiosity, is it really important?
when?
Congratulations, to Pete, it is well deserved. A pop warner coach for a pop warner program. Schurr still rules in Monetbello..
Who were the 9 that got interviews?
OOOOHHHHH NNNNOOOOOOOO said:
I warned you from Day 1 that this would happen!!!!! Now let the Drama Begin and the recruiting continue!!!
Hey OOOOHHHHH NNNNOOOOOOOO,
your VERY MISTAKEN the ONLY DRAMA is at SP along with your particular alumni!!! All they do is recruit, call kids & make empty promises and EVERYBODY knows it so get OVER it & OWN up to it for ONCE!!! The only drama you will have to talk about is SP drama LOL!!!
Good luck to all teams & let the games begin!!!
We are Oiler Fans through the good times & bad!!!! We got your back Coach Pete & staff NO MATTER how long it takes to get our rings!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations to the Oilers! More importantly, the forward thinking and clear vision of the hiring committee will produce many winning seasons in which the community will rally around. Oilerville gets a fresh start. Go Pete and your staff!
Montebello football had "glory days"??? I guess I must have missed their CIF Title(s). Beating Bell Gardens and Montebello doesn't make you a football power...winning CIF titles do
Go Swordsmen!
The coordinator situation is laughable at best. Without Morales and Jimenez on the staff this group of clowns will struggle. I was under the impression he was bringing a football staff not the circus....Rumors have been circulating that he is bringing players from SP as well, is that legal?
Congrats to Montebello for picking a coach who not only knows the city but the importance of education and football. all the haters of SPHS will say and do whatever they can to make themselves heard as all they do is blow "hot air", Can't wait to see what kind of season they end up having after that dinosaur leads the "Mighty Swordsmen"! It's nice to see that some of the alumni of recent have the class to congratulate Coach Gonzalez as well deserved. Hey all you 80's alumni, get ready for the time of your life! you're perfect 0-8 record and you can all look at eachother and thank yourselves along with that useless principal and high five eachother for worst SPHS season ever.
Montebello Oilers, get ready... get ready to see what a CIF ring looks like in this century. Or you can simply check out SPHS's most recent one in 23 years that COACH GONZALEZ achieved with his great team.
Let's play football. Congrats again to Coach Gonzalez and his staff! Welcome to Montebello!
M Lopez well said. As for the offense they will probably stick to their Pro style/spread, and Coach Morales the O-line coach will stay back at st. paul, with the exception of the D cor role that is still undetermined to my knowledge the rest of the staff is on board. Good stuff coming our way. I love the energy oiler alumni parent but let's take care of our back yard before we take on the world!
Coach Pete`s staff from St.Paul is following him to Oilerville. Andy Guerrero DC,Eric Gonzalez #1 LB, Eric Gonzalez #2 DL, John Gonzalez TE, Ralph Valdez OL, Matt Sainz OL, Coach Xavier SPT/Kickers, Gary Canales DL, Peter Gonzalez OC/QB`S, Pete will be coaching RB`S. I believe Pete is going to keep a couple of coaches from the previous staff. I don`t know for sure if Gil Jimenez will going to Montebello because he has applied for numerious head coaching jobs through out the area. He applied for the Montebello job. So, come on Montebello, let`s get behind this staff and the kids who are committed to their team and school and change the culture of winning that has not been around since Coach Rihn was at Montebello. It will not change over night so, give them a chance. GOOO OILERS/BIG BLUE & GOLD
Oilerville,
"Hardworking Hispanic Families"? Not to play the race card, but when is the last time the Oilers beat a school with "Hard working white families" or "Hard working Black families"? -NEVER, and don't worry it's just a game, they won't be bringing anyone home for dinner or worst become friends with one of "THEM".
As a parent of students who graduated from Montebello, and who was very involved from sports, band, drilteam, PTA, I was some was disapointed in the fact that MHS NEVER played schools out side of the east side of the SG Valley (Alhambra, Pico Rivera, Norwalk, Hacienda Hts).
Montebello keeps the students in a sheltered world, they play Dead Rancho, Mighty Norwalk High, Roll-a Long Rowland, Whinning Wilson (Hacienda Hts, NOT L.A. or L.B. Wilson)Keppel, Alhambra, San Gabby, Billy Goat Acres (BG)and oh yes the local powerhouse Schvrr. I have followed MHS over the last 15 years and it has been for the most part BOOORRRING!
Maybe Pete will step out of the box and venture west to a new land (for the Oilers) called LOS ANGELES, and confront the likes of Roosevelt, Dorsey, Crenshaw, Banning, Hamilton, Chatsworth, Taft, Santa Monica, San Pedro, Sylmar, Franklin, Loyola, Fairfax, Westcester, etc. OR travel south to the land of Lakewood, Los Alamitos,Dominguez,Compton,Carson,Gardena,Hawthorne and the powerhouse of Long Beach (we can start slow at Jordan, Cabrillo, Wilson and eventually sometime in the future, dare I say it POLY....)Or even further to the O.C. and take on Tesoro, HB, Edison, Laguna Nigel, Newport, Tustin, Santa Ana, and the "GODS" @ Mater Dei..
My point is if you want to hang banners at MHS, you need to get off the porch and play with the BIG DOGS. There's a whole world outside of boring Montebello ( and I know because I live there).
Goodluck to Coach Gonzalez and his staff, I look forward to seeing "CHANGE" at MHS.....
I warned you from Day 1 that this would happen!!!!! Now let the Drama Begin and the recruiting continue!!!
How many members of his previous staff will follow Pete to Montebello? What kind of offence will he run and is there any chance that his D. Coordinator will follow him?
We want our football team to be like it was in the glory days long ago. Congrats to Coach Gonzalez and his staff I did hear also we had some great applicants. Also, we don't care about SP or their old talking crap. SP goes on their way and MHS goes forward. So all the SP nags stay off our sites and let the Oiler fans talk.
Go MHS, we have waited along time.
Lets go Montebello. We have had a few down years its our turn to get the program turned around. I'm glad the direction MHS is going. Oilerville is back!!!!
Great job MTB Oilers. I am sure their just as complimentary as our new coaches. Coach Rick Zepeda is a great individual and motivator in life and sports, football. Now I know you guys won last year but a new year and a new coach should add to the motivation. So bring it and don’t hold back!!!!!!!!!!!!
Regardless about what was being said their are quiet a few parents who will deeply miss Coach Gonzales and his staff. We wish you luck over at Montebello we know you will help them tremendously, it had been decades until we got our Championship and its the same for Montebello. Good luck to the whole staff and Congratulation!!
Great news for the Oilers. I know that it will be very exciting to see Montebello compete again. I have always beleived in blue and gold I just hope that this staff can help Montebello out. Go Oilers!!
First off let me congratulate Marcus Galan on his signing with the college from Minnisota.I've had the pleasure off watching this young man grow up over the past nine years. As a player on some very talented PR Don teams he showed tremendous heart and leadership qualities and he brought that with him when he moved up to the high school level.Though he may not have possesed the breakaway speed or the strength that a bigger back may have, his determination to succeed and his overall work ethic are undeniable.Way to go boy!As for the hiring of Pete Gonzalez as coach of MTB,I am a former Oiler and it would great to see this program turn around and start winning again.Unfotunately,I've seen Gonzalez offensive coaching(play calling, time management, field positioning, etc)and it leaves a lot to be desired. If it hadn't been for his luck of inheriting some very talented players as well as having an excellent defensive head coach, I truly believe he would not have been that successful.Don't get your hopes up too high fellow Oilers this may not turn out to be as great a hire as one might think.
Before Montebello can raise a CIF banner, they need to get kids that want to play 1st. I have watched this program over the past few years. This school just got a huge athletic remodel....new football and baseball fields. And yet, these kids played so uninspired. Talk about not taking advantage of a situation. Coach needs to make sure that if he wants his team to be successful, he needs to become the number 1 team in Montebello, not the 3rd. Do I think he can do it....YES. The question is how bad his kids want it...STAY TUNED.
Congratulations,
Pete, along with your staff. Now, you and your staff of hard working coaches go to work and show the many Oiler faithful your ability to attract and get kids to play up to their abilties. Bring home not just respectability, but a yearly spot in the playoffs and eventually a CIF Championship. I hope all of you kids who did not play last year will come out and support the program. Remember, Academics first.
GOOO OILERS 2009
I hope he can leave his bad habits behind
i'm glad the oilers have a new coach and i'm glad that you are all happy with him. this will make beating you even more fun!
The Ranch!
Well,Mr. Murray, it just goes to show that football wins aren't the only things that matter when you're the head coach. "Character Counts" isn't a just some catchy phrase. When many young eyes are upon you and many young ears are listening, you have to step up and set good examples in ALL things. And this is to all coaches in high school or youth leagues. Our society needs to hold dear long held virtures. There is too many influences upon our children that cause an overall coarsening of society. Coaches are front and center to those young players - teach more than just game strategy.
I wish him well at his new school, and his lovely family. However, I'm pleased with the new direction. Coach Ancich is just an interim coach, who will assist in the eventual new coach.
What's the over/under on how long it will take Mr. Gonzalez to run himself out of Montebello? My guess is one year...
Solid hire. How much of it had to do with the fact that he already had a staff in tact. I know a couple of the coaches who applied and were very qualified, but they did not have an entire staff going with them.
OILERVILLE
Be careful what you say and expect. Gonzalez has been around, but there are variables. YOU EXPECT THE "BIG DANCE" as you put it. You now have a successful coach, don't blow it by having parents and fans expect everything from the guy.
If you do you may lose him pretty quickly. Good coaches do not want to hear what "YOU EXPECT". They try to build them up to reach their potential.
Seriously, Montebello has done "NOTHING". That's right, nothing!! Especially as of late. How could you come up with this "WE EXPECT". Be satisfied you got him. God is not going to come down and coach Montebello Football!
Congrads to Coach Pete. My sons played for you at SP and you helped them continue at the State Level. As I read the SP blogs about everything wrong you did, no one mentioned the all good things that you brought to the SP Table. Your staff is great and I personally wish you the best of luck and continued success. St.Paul pray for us....I will for the first time in my life follow the local football scores for Montebello High School.
Jimenez has applied for area head coaching positions? Any result known yet.
Is he credentialed yet? Last I heard he was not. Many schools need credentialed teachers because of "No Child Left Behind"
CONGRATULATIONS Coach Pete & coaches you all deserve this no matter what because I played for you I know what it takes to be a part of a disciplined program that brings Championship rings. THANK YOU & Good luck!
Excellent news!
To my brother Pete, Congratulations on your new endever,Praise the Lord! I would also like to tip my hat to all the other applicatnts that decided to apply for the position to bring back what once was.Thank you Mr Schwarts, Mr Murphy And Coach Rhin for the diligence in the interview process to select the most qualified coach for the position.Having supported this program through thick and thin I hope all the faitful Oiler's will join in and welcome Pete (Mr Gonzalez) and his staff to their new home OILERVILLE.
Great news!!!!!
We as a football community got the best coach available. That's something that's been missing since Coach Rihn. Gonzales we expect leadership to the big dance. At Montebello, we are blue collar hard working hispanic families. No drama like St.Paul. We don't care what happened over there. We care what's going to happen here. We ask that you be true to our school and you will be embraced like a family memeber. We are behind you. You will not see all the garbage that you saw at St.Paul. Our principal is a man of integrity and went through the process like a professional would. You earned your new job. It wasn't given to you under the table like Ancich. We are exited and proud that you have come home. You grew up in Montebello and went to Cantwell so we know that's there is history. I also played football with you at Grant Rea as your Father was my coach. Lead us in the direction and the community will follow. St.Paul's loss, our gain!!
Great job Murphy and Shwartz....
Who were the nine that interviewed? Will Gonzalez keep his teaching position at St. Paul? Good luck to the newest member of the Oiler family.
