Perfect is perfect no matter the opponent

| | Comments (42) |

The comment on the blog from "Anonymous" that Gabriel Encinas' perfect game last week was against a JV team was a typical cheap shot.
Actually, it was against a program that admittedly is struggling this season but still shows up and plays as best it can.
A perfect game is a perfect game and deserving of acknowledgement no matter the opponent.
If nothing else, it means he did not walk a batter, and with the fluctuating and often "creative" strike zones of today's umpires, that in itself is an accomplishment.

Hey Anonymous:

I just happened on this blog and read you spewing garbage. Only a spineless moron would make comments under the handle 'Anonymous'. I'm surprised you can spell it!
Regarding the 'nobody will remember' comment from you. I coached Mr. Encinas for 3 years, many years ago when we were with the CH Storm. I will tell you that I remember what an outstanding player he was and still is, and I WILL remember his current perfect game and all of his other accomplishments he achieved while we were teamed together years ago. I still have his back. Now, crawl back into the hole you crawled out of.

Really doesn't matter who has the better record Paez or Encinas. A year or 2 from now no one will remember.

Both are different types of pitchers and both will be succesful at the next level. Paez has got good control and a good range of pitches and Encinas brings the heat. You can't teach a 90+ mph fastball.

Zuniga and Paez will be pitching at the next level as will Encinas and Willson.

Quit being haters and be happy for the kids.

look what I started!

Bottom Line said:

St. Paul is no where near the same level as Bishop Amat. Encinas is no where near the same level as Pae. Encinas may throw harder than Paez but he is not a better pitcher. Paez own St. Paul and Encinas. Paez is 4-0 against St. Paul and 4-0 in head to battle with Encinas. Case closed.

St. Paul English-English-English! Please anonymous try to help us. Your point is well taken.

Anonymous said:

wait wait wait... your saying Encinas doesnt deal with stress. he's been on one of the most stressful teams this year. come one 3 of his losses were 1-0. his era was under 1 the whole season and the losses were by errors. so how you going to say amats pitcher deals with stress better. ill take Encinas over amats guy anyday. the only thing Encinas doesnt have, is a team around him, like amats guy does, if he did you would be saying the opposite of wat you said right now SPHS STAR.

Anonymous said:

hey mr.what. 4 hits and 2 runs come on does were errors you goof seems like you dont no the game to well and he,s a freshman so next time do your homework before you open your mouth

Are there 2 Anonymous's? One a St.Paul Fan and the other an Amat guy? Or one person with dual personality?
The Anonymous who wrote on Pittmans blog appears intelligent. The other: NOT!!!!!

SPHS STAR
Wake up! There is a world out there!!! Amat had 15 hits and lined out another 5 times.

How much do you "really know" about hitting. You mentioned they just threw the bat out. WELL, throwing the barrel at the ball is what hitting is all about.
Obviously your put down on their hitters, it really a complement.

Too bad they have the same team back next year. Amat is much more intelligent. They know how to hit. Either they knew coming in or they have been taught. Effortless. "Throw the barrel at the ball" and watch the results.

And Encinas is a good pitcher. If he signs for 30 thousand that starter for Amat will sign for 100 thousand. Why? He is much better and deals with stress.

St Paul had amat on the ropes, now if the umpire would have helped us out a little the outcome would have been different. But we’re playing at their stadium so it’s obvious, we won’t get the calls.

What? said:

So much for the great pitching of St. Paul. Both Amat pitchers dominated the Swordsmen. Amat did not get flares against St.Paul. Try 14 hits off of Encinas inlcuding 2 bombs from a freshman and a sophomore. As fas as super soph Medina. He gave up 4 hits and 2 runs to Amat in the 6th inning today.

sphs “star” oh my God; are you serious? Only people who live in a box would place Gabe (looks where did he go) as one of the area’s best. But I am sure you’re counting on your lucky stars. Slime can’t compete at anything.

How many CIF titles? Because 20 miles within sp will includes a lot of schools. I hope you’re not just talking out of your axx sphs class of 83.

HEY AMAT I DONT KNOW WHERE U GET TRYING TO PUT DOWN GABE. WHEN EVERYONE KNOWS HE'S ONE OF THE BEST IF NOT THE BEST PITCHER IN THE AREA. I SAW THE GAME AND YAH AMAT HAD SOME GOOD HITS. BUT MOST OF THOSE HITS CAME FROM JUST THROWING THE BAT OUT AND TRYING TO MAKE CONTACT. LIL FLAIRS ARE NOT REAL HITS IF YOU COULD TELL...

Hey sp just step aside because the Lancers are coming and on Friday and we’ll play the scrubs and still win your slime school.

everybody is talking about young players here and there but no mention of rene medina #24 of st paul he is a true freshman 14 years old and pitched 2 great innings vs amat and struck out anderson and got rios to pop up to 3rd base this kid is ligit and yet not a word on how he did tuesday at amat but its ok he,s letting his game do the talking way to go kid keep up the hard work and encinas is one bad a$$$ pitcher

sports fan original said:

Encinas is one heck of a pitcher. If St. Paul gets a base hit with bases loaded, its a whole new ballgame. Momentum plays a role in baseball too.

But Baseball Fan, you are smarter than that: Young players on Bishop Amat are about 10 times better than those Cantwell guys. Cantwell just lost to La Salle by about 15 runs.

Amat is a GREAT CLUB. Encinas did almost beat them the first time. I heard Amat only has 1 starter that is a senior. Can you imagine how good they will be next year. If they play as a team, that is.

Anonymous: take a class.

Chris C said:

Anonymous you are a week idiot who probably has never even played sports and if you did you were a bench warmer. I guess you do not remember the first game against Bihop when Gabe pitched a great game.He has pitched great all year he just not gotten the support. He just had a bad game it happens to everyone who has ever played sports and since you know nothing about sports that is why you are stupid and anonymous.

Baseball Fan said:

This just goes to show you that it doesn't matter how young the players are. If your at the Varsity level then your a Varsity player... right Not so fast & Anonymous???? First you haters talk about how it's not impressive because of the young team he faced from Cantwell. Well guess who hit the home runs from Bishop. Yup, that's right... the young players.

Anonymous said:

Not so fast is right. This kid might look good in a couple of years but who knows. I think the slime school is using him for recruitment. Nobody wants to go to sphs and rightfully so.

SPHS Class of 83 said:

St Paul High School has more CIF Titles than any school within 20 miles of them. This is why , whatever happens at SPHS, its big news. A perfect game is a perfect game.

Swordsmen are news because the school has earned that respect.......Go Blue

Thanks Roger for making this kid think he can pitch with the big boys.

Not So Perfect said:

Bishop amat banged 14 hits off Encinas en route to 7 earned runs. Freshman Rio Ruiz and Sophomore Jay Anderson both hit homeruns off of Encinas.

sports fan original said:

Perfect game is a perfect game. Yes. And Cantwell is Cantwell!!
to Coaching: Of course hitting the target is takes technique. Thousands of players are doing it. Every sport takes technique.
Hey, the kid did a great job of not walking people against Cantwell, but I do believe the blogger that stated this very, very weak team was swinging at bad pitches all day

Thats what terrible teams do. By reading the paper I guess it was a whole new ballgame versus Bishop. And more like some teams they may see in the playoffs. I talked to someone who told me that along with the 15 hits Bishop lined out about 5 times.

Anonymous said:

Wow i cant believe the nerve of you people really trying to put this kid down. Why are all of you such haters. Are you hating because you know your kid will never be as good as him. Is that it? To really say the only reason he pitched a perfect game was because he pitched against a cantwel team who were a bunch of rookies. Obviesly you guys have never pitched. Even against a horrible team thats still an accomplishment because one hit batter, one walk, one error and that perfect game is done. And your not going to give the kid credit for that. I cant believe you guys. And to really say he's nothing. Hes one of the best in california and you could check that in baseball america. If you dont believe

Granted, Gabe Encinas didn't have what it took yesterday on the mound against the Lancers (looked a little weary, probably discouraged by the batting slump of teammates), but against Amat's best pitcher he hits a homer. He's a great competitor. I don't know what happened to the other hitters on that SPs team - but they need to put their head down and concetrate on singles and quit trying to hit them out. As regards to Encinas' perfect game last week, and his previous pitching performances: 'He's got talent' He's a pleasure to watch hurl the pitch to the plate. He looks mature, polished, and 'perfect'.

Also, give Cantwell some credit. These high school players have a lot of baseball under their belt by the time they get to high school. Maybe not the top team around, but they've been around the diamond.

Not So Fast said:

I see Mr. Perfect Game got lit up for for 14 hits and 7 earned runs by Bishop Amat. He didn't face Cantwell today. He gave up a 2 run bomb to a freshman and a 3 run bomb to a sophomore. What does his ERA look like now?

gabriel fan said:

Most of you people are jokes...young mr. Encinas is the real deal...and after losing a big game to Amat where he gave up two HR's...he has the class to go up to the Amat coaches (he knows them well) and gives them a hug and congratulates them on the win...Then he is seen going up to the Freshman 3rd baseman and gives him a hug, and shows some love...that is total respect for the game and his opponents, his parents should be proud of how he performed on and off the field...He ill be a top draft pick next year and is one of the premier pitchers in So. Cal

Bishop !!!! said:

"easy 7 to 1" Oh yes Bishop A. still owns the st paul slime school. I heard that the area now calls the school the termite and rot campus. Isn’t it a crime to charge parents tuition at a reprehensible so-call place of learning?
And now with an antiquity coach who we have beat like a drum for years. My God! please bring mercy and close the doors or like everyone has said leave it for the girls lol.

Coaching...I happened to catch that so called perfect game. My nephew attends St. Paul and took him to the game. On paper he was perfect. In person, he was wild. Not even close to perfection. By the way, the team consisted of one junior, one freshman, and 7 sophomores. Indeed a JV team.
There is no need to be a former pitcher or a pitching coach to know that an experienced hitter will not be swinging at balls over there heads. I have a better idea than me checking out some books, why don't you check your comments before you blow up this kids head. You have him feeling like a bobble head.

Wow said:

Encinas perfect game against a freshmen team if that. Would not brag if went to St. Paul. The worse team ever seen play. Good luck with next year perfect game. Ha Ha Ha. Lights out G.E....

Coaching said:

Obviously Anonymous, you've never seen Encinas pitch before and you've probably never pitched yourself. Pitching is not just throwing a ball it's a technique. No matter the team it's still a ball that has to hit it's target. He's done this before you just haven't heard about it. It takes experience, maturity and poise to accomplish what he does on the mound. Why don't you check out Perfect Game or Baseball America sometime.

Anonymous said:

how is that a cheap shot at The St. Paul pitcher. He pitched it against a team that is essentially a JV team right? It was a comment! With your way of seeing things, if he pitched it against a rec ball team, he should be praised? Thats wrong. You know what else was wrong?
The coverage you gave to this story. No mention of it until 3 days had passed. With the way WDN is up on St. Paul sports this is very surprising. Oh well no one is perfect. Unless you pitch against a JV team.

Anonymous said:

Good Job Encines!!Regarding the cheap shot. Why do grown adults feel the need to put down children is beyond me.So sad.

If only St. Paul's offense was half as good as the pitching.

Definetly the perfect game is a great accomplishment Gabriel Encinas...my hats off to you .....keep up the good work.....

You are right on, Roger. Gabe is an outstanding pitcher, and anyone who knows anything about the local guys knows that. What makes this game totally legit is the fact that we all know Gabe has the ability to throw a no hitter every time out. It would be hard for most pitchers, even in the bullpen, to throw to 21 simulated hitters and not walk at least one. Cheap shot is right, Roger. Congratulations Gabriel Encinas. I look forward to hearing more good things about him in the future, and...Perfect Game....that lasts forever, no matter the opponent.
