A couple of things ... and more stuff
More accolades for La Habra's Ronnie Hillman. After being named the MVP in the Freeway League track and field finals for winning four individual titles -- 100, 200, long jump and triple jump, he is the league's boy Athlete of the year. Just to refresh your memory, he rushed for 1,137 yards and 16 touchdowns, averaging 12.3 yards per carry, and had 57 receptions for 939 yards (16.4 ypc) a d 14 TDs. He played his best against the best, i.e. in a 28-21 loss to Division I San Clemente, rushed for 116 yards and added 81 yards in receptions. During the season, he had runs of 77, 75 and 70 (twice) yards, and three others of more than 50 yards. ...
The report that Highlanders' defensive back Dominic Sierra has been been offered by Hawaii is correct. Coach Frank Mazzotta confirmed he has accepted the offer. No confirmation the 6-foot-1, 198-pounder will play linebacker for the Rainbows. ...
St. Paul pitcher Gabe Encinas texted from a National Showcase camp in North Carolina that he pitched four perfect innings Thursday (" ... 12 up, 12 down, with three Ks"). ...
The coaching staff for the East squad in Friday night's Hall of Fame football game at Bassett High School is singing the praises of Pioneer's Matt Botello. Not surprised here. The mightiest little (5-foo7-7, 185) Titan has long been underrated by everyone but coach Ramon Juarez. Cat quick and more powerful than size would indicate, outstanding receiver out of the backfield and standout return guy for special teams. Coming off an impressive performance in the 605 All-Star Classic.

Everyone from the area come out and witness some hard hitting up close. In addition, its only practice wow!! The Fiesta bowl all-star practice at El Rancho “awesome”. The kid from all-powerful greatest high school in the world (Rayan Willis DB) Long Beach Ploy. Is a true talent. Rayan is hitting major league style. So come out!!!!!!! The local kids SP 6 kids, ER 4 Kids. Cal Hi 2, SF 2, and much more kids from the area. It is free!
ER,
I dont know what you are referring to. I was speaking of Lance Jennings, Class of 1989 who was drafted #58 in the June draft by the Kansas City Royals. Please provide info on Jesse Bueno.
Thanks!
With all due respect, “ER historian” in the early 90’s it was Jesse Bueno of whom you may be thinking.
Jesse was a good football player and wrestler, 1992 he won the individual wrestling champion award.
Great article on Coach Anchich receiving that Lifetime Coaching award in Irvine.
Lance Jennings played with the Royals in the late 80's early 90's. Got as far as double A. He does own his own trucking company and lives in Modesto.
Marshall Adair was an All-CIF baseball and football player at the Ranch. Was the 2nd in the long line of great El Rancho QB's, after Bill Nelsen who was a pro-bowler in 1968. Adair played minor league ball for the Giants organization. He passed away several years ago.
El Rancho’s Lance Jennings played for the KC Royals. I believe he now owns a large trucking company. Maybe he (Jennings) had a short stint with the White Sox. For me ER’s CIF all time baseball player of the year “Marshall Adair” played for WS could be wrong.
“Things….and stuff”……… the White Sox organization has shown interest in “Espinoza” from the Ranch. I believe the last person from ER who played for the White Sox was Tom Egan and Lance Jennings, Lance I think late 80’s.
Winners Jonathan Montoya, José Ramos, third possible Bryan Turner, had an easy second all-most first.
Anonymous, who were the ER linemen that took the awards, I would imagine Montoya took one of the awards, who else?
Anon:
Your hatred for St. Paul clouds your judgement. Murray is covering the Encinas story as it is NEWS. The Times and Fred over at the SGVN covered it as well.
If it had been another kid from the area Murray would still cover it.
Text messaging is how kids communicate today so what is the big deal?
Get over yourself.
It all makes sense now. You definately show favoritism toward St. Paul. Getting text messages from their pitcher seals it. How many beat reporters give their cell number to kids? Why only St. Paul players?
Long beach state linemen combine; out of 300 participants, only five awards given. El Rancho brought home two and almost a third, the third kid came in second but it was close.
notin rong wit are grammor. Saint. Paul rulz!
your not a true swordsmen! murray can you stop it now,
how much more do we have to hear. its great for them---
good luck. things on this blog arent right.
hum well were not WCHS because only they are smart.
Way to go Highlanders! representing the area well. Passing league games the other day looked very good. Lots of speed at WR and the QB Cody Clements was throwing really well. The defernsive backs also looked very quick.
Congratulations to these players!
On another note:
The St. Paul bloggers, whether they are parents, students or alumni, have the worst grammar and
spelling on this site. I'm not sure if it's an
indication of the current education level at the school
or just typing problems, but it has been
consistently bad. I attended St. Paul in the
60's so I'm a little embarrassed by the
situation.
