Heralds' Caffrey leaving to take Sunny Hills football job

| | Comments (25) |

Whittier Christian High School Athletic Director and head football coach Jon Caffrey has resigned from both positions to become the head football coach at Sunny Hills High school.
Caffrey led Whittier Christian to league championships and the CIF Southern Section, Division XIII semifinals when his teams posted 11-1 and 10-3 records overall in 2005 and 2006, respectively.
"I came here to build a football program, and I feel I've accomplished all I can," Caffrey said.
In six seasons at the helm, Caffrey's teams posted a 40-29 record overall, including a 12-12 mark in three different leagues -- Delphic, Alpha and Olympic.
This past season, the Heralds were 4-6, including a 1-3 mark in the Olympic League.
Caffrey also has been instrumental in upgrading some of the school's athletic facilities, perhaps most significantly the weight room with top-flight equipment which is used by all of the Heralds' athletic teams.
At Sunny Hills, he will take over a program that was 15-25, including 6-13 in the Freeway League, over the past four seasons.
The program appeared to be regaining credibility last year under first-year coach Marcelo Giuliano, posting a 6-5 record overall and finishing third (3-2) in league. The Lancers returned the CIF playoffs for the first time since 2004, losing to Western, 38-15, in a Division VI first-round game.
"Sunny Hills is an outstanding school academically," Caffrey said. "When I interviewed, I was really impressed with the administrators.
"They're looking for someone to build a program. I'm looking for a last stop. I'm not interested in moving around, and I'm looking at Sunny Hills as a last move."

Check out the "percentage" of students being accepted to 4 year colleges. That will tell the story. Again I would predict WC has a considerably higher percentage than SP.

$$$$$$$$$

"88" what does that mean?

Anonymous said:

Hey sport fan original “88” radical; why is enrollment down by 50% if the grass is greener at Whittier Christian? Aren’t the so call academics tops? Why are people running in the opposite direction?

This blog started with wc football coach running for the sunny hills. Does that hurt you sport fan original “88” radical.

I'm democrat. I voted for him!!! YOu probably did not even vote.

"bet" and lose. What's new?

"every student" that includes students at Whittier Christian. They should not be accused of "alienating themselves from minorities" as per this blog.

Anonymous: You have been putting down Whittier Christian since the first blog. Does the "championship" hurt you?

Are you kidding me said:

Is sports fan original making an a@# of his self on this blog to. This guy is too much lol. Cant believe this guy needs to get a life.

Mr. Woods, I will bet sport fan original is beside himself because Obama is President. I am sure he would like to see the Jim Crow’s segregation of the 1870’s through the 1950’s, separated schools. Maybe that is why he will demonize most schools and exalt another, not realizing were all Americans and that each person, student plays a very important part of our great nation. We all hope he will come around!!!!

Congratulations to Whittier Christian softball players for winning a CIF Championship. You serve our area well, both in academics and softball

I’ll ask, sports fan original is your name James Von Brunn? If so you made the news today lol.
At least you should be behind bars now. I’ll bet you watch Lou Dobbs CNN every night and hope for a Whiter America. All kids should be encouraged and supported and that means at any and every school

to "sounds like said" it is "supremacy" not "supermacy".

Anonymous: I have never sent any of my children to Whittier Christian. And, most of their friends are hispanic.

Anonymous: Did I say "what did I say?" No!!!

Hack why would anyone need God or even go to church, they (humanity) could just come on this blog and receive your culmination wisdom. Than the world would be as you see fit. sport fan original get a job, because God already occupies the one you seek.

to Hood to tight: I did make some typo's and probably more but my basic ability to comprehend what is wrote appears to be much higher than yours!

City means city. Not cities!! Did I mention other schools? No I did not!! Boy you put a "spin" on this one!! What are you trying to say? I love all people of all races!! And, I have friends of all..so do not accuse me because of your ignorance and inability to read.

Did I say "caucasians can only receive a better education at Whittier Christian"? NO I DID NOT!!

Who places more students into the UC system or into the State colleges (OK, a higher percentage of its students), St. Paul or Whittier Christian? The school that does puts out more educated students. I predict Whittier Christian. And that is why students attend that school. Not to alienate themselves.

Do some research if you cannot figure it out.

My June 9th blog was a response to "judgement's" accusation that students at Whittier Christian are "alienating" themselves from the "minority"!!

Boy, you St. Paul bloggers definitely suggest a lack of reading comprehension.

What? sport fan original your true bigotry is seen in your comments and is absurd. Most people like you don’t even see their own prejudice, they say “what, what did I say? “ I guess you would like to go back to the 1960’s so the Caucasians won’t have to pile into one school to receive an education without minorities bring them down. Mr. sports (narrow-mindedness) fan original stick to sports.

Hood too tight said:

Well its judgment not judgement; and use caps when necessary. So” sport fan original” because it’s not the 1960’s and Hispanics not hipanics, are all around our city or is it cities? That Caucasians can only receive a better education at Whittier Christian, and all the other Caucasians in our cities schools aren’t learning or sub-par and must be low rent for you. I would use “Wake up “like you, but instead loosen that white hood because you can’t see or don’t want to see. Leaders and smart kids are coming from many schools and walks of life.

sports fan original said:

to judgement:

Where have you been? Caucasian is the minority now. This is not the 1960's anymore!! Wake up. Look around your city. Hispanics are not the minority, but the majority.

Do people look at the enrollment at St. Paul and say the hipanics are alienating themselves from caucasians? No!!

Well we have the same situation at Whittier Christian only it is mostly caucasian!!! They just want a better education and they will get it there.

St Paul has been reduced to calling out Sunny Hills! I love it. Always representing well, we wouldn't expect anything less choir boys.

Anonymous said:

Hey Sunny Hills’ you have a few young guys that need good coaching, I believe they can only receive from St. Paul football. Michael Lee, WR - Tanner Christensen QB, WR - James San Miguel OL, DL.
Only one tradition and that Swordsmen tradition!!! Second to none!

J.Munoz said:

sunny hills vs St Paul, love it.thats if the new(sh) coach is up for it and not afraid. coach start out on the right foot, St.Paul is waiting.

You want reality well here it is: Whittier Christian is a dead end job and will continue to be a dead end job for anyone who coaches football there. Very few athletes and an administration who does not understand the importance of athletics and especially football. Look at when Caffrey's dad was there and how successful they were in the 80's and early 90's. I believe the school population and overall athletic program were at their best as well. Football is the one sport that brings in kids and boosts the school's athletic and academic performance.
Look at what Caffrey has done for the athletic program in the short time he was there. He is a winner and will continue to be a winner at Sunny Hills. This is the best move for him and his family. Whittier Christian offers no job security and no future! It is a GREAT move!!

judgment said:

“The kids at Whittier Christian are more real then any kids you will know”----- (judgment) ---- So which kids did Jesus consider more real? Kids that want to be alienated (Whittier Christian) from kids who might be in the minority class as he “Jesus” a minority. Maybe there’s a special kind of kid that only others would know. Hum maybe like a kid who might need salvation? You say…………………………… ‘Whittier Christian is a great school and you need to pull your head out of your axx” Whittier Christian thinks of itself as an aristocracy, better than anyone else, they have miss the mark that Jesus set out.

Anonymous said:

This must be "Real" again.

Keep your mouth shut. Every time you open you say something stupid and make the rest of us at SP look bad.

Anonymous said:

Please!!! A real school, are you serious. Whittier Christian is a great school and you need to pull your head out of your _ _ _! The kids at Whittier Christian are more real then any kids you will know.

Anonymous said:

I don't understand what your saying? Caffrey was not well liked as a Football Coach and maybe not as an A.D.,but the fact of the matter is that he did do alot for the Schools Athletic Program. Coaching is a love hate relationship at best, maybe he forgot about that this past season! Anyway, good luck at Sunny Hills you will have alot to deal with teams like La Habra!

Anonymous said:

Well it's about time He goes to a real school, you cant hide behind fear, there's real people out there. I say Sunny Hills schedule St.Paul. Caffrey could really do something in his life "finally"
