More bits and pieces ...
Concerning the reported transfer of Loyola linebacker Bronson Green to
St. Paul, it is not true, at least not right now. A St. Paul school
spokesperson said he is not enrolled and is not working out with the
football program. ...
Add St.Paul: The report there is "about 45" boys out for football is
either misleading or erroneous. As of Saturday, the Swordsmen have
"about twice" that many. ...
At this early point in the season (actually, while interest is year
round, the football season doesn't begin until August), is it really so
important who is the freshman football coach at St. Paul? ...
If you're going to post unfounded rumors that a coach is seeking
numbers for players from another school (the implication being something
illegal is afoot), identify the players, so it can be checked out. Or is
the allegation merely meant to stimulate interest and controversy? ...
Anonymous posted the names and specifics of four large bodied
athletes. Nothing else, other than titled "Prospects." Should it be
assumed there is some type of dubious implication meant there. If it's
CalHigh of which you speak, say so. If otherwise, say so.
Add Anonymous: You posted "Cal Hi report; ..... We're looking to go 10-0. Don't
see much competition in our league." Pioneer and La Serna might have
something to say about that. Don't know yet about Whittier and El
Rancho. And as for Santa Fe, best to let the big dog sleep. Much is
being said about the Chiefs and their staff, not a lot of it positive.
Come late November, some of the more vocal folks might be seeking spices
to put on their crow. ...

WHS: BRAINS OVER SIZE. TRADITION: WHITTIER DEFINITELY LACKS IT. TALK: WHITTIER HAS IT!! IF YOU DO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS, ACCORDING TO THE PAST IT WOULD BE A SURPRISE.
QUIT TALKING AND DO IT
I DONT THINK SO; Lil cal hi, all of your coaches are er knuckleheads. er didn't want them!!!!!!!!!!!!! Zamora is a fool and can only think of his self. He's like Ramirez, they don't care! Coach Arnold is a er fool! We need coach Ancich BACK!!!!! What did SP do they brought back the legend. Cal Hi was nothing before coach Ancich, CIF would laugh at us. Let's get back to real football.
Cal Hi; will go 10&0. So you fools talk all you want. We will breeze though the preseason. League a walk.
El Rancho's line will not be weak this season, they return some experience on the line, the problem ER faces is depth on the line. Jonathan Montoya and Jose Ramos won 2 out of 3 awards at a linemen competition featuring 300 linemen a few weeks back, forgot to mention Jose Ramos is around 6'4 280. Another returning starter on the line for ER is Leo Galindo who can play anywhere on the line. Kevin Gilbert another returning starting OL will help protect Josh Perea, as will Bryan Turner a player who has so much potential and could explode at any minute.
ER returns one of the best players in the area in Anthony Ayala at WR, pair him with Leonard Baldwin and we could see some fireworks this season. Josh is likely the best QB in the league and will show it this season. If ER can find a quality RB this season then I would not count ER out to win league this year.
Are you kidding Big Oso? So you're saying Whittier has on chance. We have one of the biggest lines in the league. St paul was trying to pull them. We will make the playoffs this season.
The Del RIo League will be dominated by two schools. Cal Hi and Santa Fe. Plain and simple. Cal Hi comes in with a revamped offense that will feature a strong running game and passing game. The option is gone. You will see more play action this year. This is only because the QB position has been uprgraded from last year. This year the QB position will stay in the pocket and stretch the defense because both kids that are fighting for the job can sling the rock! I aint even worried about pass protection because the Cal Line is the best in the league. They will be featuring 4 seniors and 1 junior. All those kids are strong as hell! They proved themselves in the lineman competition at the Santa Fe TOC.
The Condor running game will be second to none featuring Terris Jones. Yes he can run between the tackles because the line will make sure of it. No longer will teams be able to load the box with out being susceptible to the pass. This was a Condor weekness last year. Teams forced the Condores to beat them with the pass and the Condores could'nt do it. Not this year!
As much as I hate Santa Fe you have to respect them. The amount of talent that passes through that school is phenominal! They are always a mighty adversary! I am looking foward to this game! Year after Year they reload. You have to admire that!
As for the rest of the league. The only team I see making noise is the El Rancho Dons. Yes, I said it the Dons. Last year they played so many Sophmores their record showed it. The kids will be stronger and they just may have the best QB in the league in Josh Perea. Imagine what the kid could do with a line protecting him. I saw this kid play many times. He makes good decisions, reads coverages very well. This will be his senior year and I expect good things from him this year. His team may just fall a little short at the skill positions and the line is still very undersized. I am not sure if he will get the time needed to throw but the kid can find the open reciever. I have the Dons finishing third in the league.
Let's see what happens. Get out and support your local high school. High school football is second to none. I don't care what level you play at. These kids work hard through the spring and summer and they deserve everyones support. With the way the economy is going. Attending a high school football game is a cheap way to spend a Friday night with your family without paying a arm and a leg. Good Luck Del Rio League!
oh really,
yes well hopefully he can have a break out year for la serna because he has a big arm
oh yes the kid is Hugh and can pass. St.Paul try to recruit him. the hopes is he can score in short yardage. he ll be hared to take down.
i hear la serna has a big kid playing quarterback this upcoming season
when one of your schools win 4 or 5 CIF Titles like St Paul has....then mouth off. Has a team from the area other than St Paul or La Habra won a CIF title in the past 40 yrs? When you do, talk to me. As for Coach Gonzalez, as a SPHS alumni, thank you for your time, your hard work and a CIF Title. As for Coach Anchich, your simply the best there has ever been. Good luck to all the high school teams and lets keep it civil here, these boys deserve our respect.
what the fox!!!!!! Clan Man said:
SP is small, slow and poorly coached. I feel bad for them. They get whooped by the Pac 5 and couldnt hang with us. SP should be an all girl school by now. idiot low landers;
but you fools dont play pac 5 right. dont feel bad for the one that will bring you down to earth. So why do good players come to the PIT? OK so la habra won some no good division, who cares!!! when will you schedule us? Never-never-never=fear!!!!!
Looks like the snitch is back on the blogs. We're back and we haven't forgotten you! Don't forget the Stix incident....we are coming!
SP is small, slow and poorly coached. I feel bad for them. They get whooped by the Pac 5 and couldnt hang with us. SP should be an all girl school by now.
Reading these blogs its amazing to see how horrible the St. Paul people are. Do your talking on the field and shut up, you people truly act like kids.
Good luck to ALL area football teams.
SP Fan ?
What are you talking about? Did you not see that Gonzales won a title two years ago? If you think that Jimenez won that title then your completely insane. Yes , he is outstanding. Yes, he's a gamer. But no, he didn't do it by himself. It was a mixture of all the coaches working as a unit. The old saying is"defense wins championships" This holds true. But if you look at the title it says pete Gonzales. Bottom line , like him or hate him he and his staff won a title at SP. The first in thirty years. So until someone else wins one we must give it up to him and his staff. Why all the resentment? It really makes me wonder who the crap talkers really are. The guy just came and coached and did a pretty good job. I must say that I met him on a few occasions and he seemed pretty nice. Not this monster that everyone talks about. I think it's the old regime or a select few parents that have all this resentment. He is gone wish him well. Let's see what Ancich will do. I heard that not all is good at the pit! Thank God for Paul Lopez who will be the next great SP QB.
As for Coach Gonzales, good luck to you and your staff. Thanks for giving the very best effort you gave while at SP. If you continue your hard working ways at Montebello we shall see another title in a few years. Keep your head up and continue to run the ship. Who really cares what sour parents and alumni think. The school district hired you so that says alot. All the rumors were put to rest as far as I'm concerned. Good luck at MHS. Go Swordman in 2009...
To all the sofa sitting, remote control, weekend only TV watching coaches... When you get up off your butt, and learn what it is really like to teach and coach high school athletes, then you will shut your mouth and appreciate all the effort that is put in to every program. But until then, how can you sit down and accuse other coaches of not being the best, or fortune telling their season? Just grow up and appreciate the youth of tomorrow, and the people that are trying to make them better. I personally wish Mr. Pete Gonzalez, and every high school program a great and wonderful season.

What's the latest news coming out of Oilerville?
Does anyone know Montebello's passing league schedule?
Let me just say,
Pete Gonzales couldn`t coach himself out of a paper bag. His play calling while at St.Paul lack any rythum. I believe his son Peter will be the Offensive coordinator this season at Montebello, well I would expect better play calling from him since he has been calling the offensive for the JV team the last few years. We`ll see.
The word is that he has lost three coaches already and is looking to replace them. What`s going on Pete! is the grass greaner on the other side? I went to all of St. Paul`s games the last few years and with out Gil Jimenez and that Defensive staff thoe teams would have not been very good. I hope Gil get`s his chance to coach his own team one day. So Montebello people you wanted the homeboy, well you got him and his baggage. Now go and win a CIF Ring, ya right. GO ST.PAUL IN 2009 SMALL IN NUMBERS, BUT BIG IN HEART.
to all the haters, if St.Paul only has 12 players they will go both ways all night long! and kick the the hell out of any school that blogs here. thats you, history is about to be made this season. our preseason might be a little tough but thats makes us stronger.
With all the drama going on at Montebello its obvious why these posts about SP start popping up. Instead of trying to deflect attention from your situation you are gaining more attention. If SP has only 45 players good for them, they have a total of 93 between jv and varsity learn how to count. all you need is 11 and they can play! I say game on...
SPmom...Im curious to know how long have u been w/ ST.Paul! Im assuming not long. All you need is 11 players on the field... 45 is enough! IF you know our history then you would now we do more with less. We have no speed, we have no size but yet we kick butt, its our heart that makes us great. I played at ST.Paul in the 80's under Coach Olmedo. And to the idiot who said Ancich is past his prime...Well SEE!!!
as already stated by murray, the lack of participation in Saint Paul football is greatly exaggerated, practice is going well and progress is being made, this year will be better then an understandable down last year
It is true, St. Paul has a low amount of players for the team this year. I am predicting a rough time for the Swordsmen in the fall. Ancich is past his prime.
spmom
you have not idea what you are talking about.
The 45 number is true between Varsity and JV, that is very low and very concerning. We can only hope for the best. I'm not very happy with the Coach Ancich, hopefully it will improve.
Every years Loyola's Freshmen don't start till august, they lift during summer school but they don't start practice until camp(hell week) starts.
come on gamer, calling Pioneer trash, a little too much.
Hey Murray,
Any 'must see' players at SP this year?
First Murray
I said I heard, I did not know for a fact. That is why I asked if you could look into it.
St. paul has about twice as many. Is that with the freshman who just started. I was not counting the freshman sorry I did not say that.
The freshman just started. I would think it is important that they meet there coaches. The football season begins in june you would think you would know that covering the area for so long. I don't know of any teams that start football in august.
As for the unfounded rumors its more to let the coach know, people know what he is doing.
X Vega
thanks for the info I heard that coach Avina is a st paul guy (old school) and a great coach
Cal high guy
10-0 first game vs Rowland there QB coming back
game 5 vs villa park old coaches vs new coaches.
santa fe what can I say how about reload, reload.
el rancho ex coaches going up against there ex schools.
gamer
Maybe Murray should hire you as a football reporter. I think you know more about the teams in the area better than him.
Pioneer is trash. they have not one athlete back other then the quaterback who is very good. The line was awful last year and will be again this year. Botello, Crosby and Ramirez nearly all their yardage. All three gone. Juarez always does a good job of creating things for his team. But he doesn't have a magic wand for that kind of talent. They deffinitely don't play defense anymore. They havent even beat whittier in over 5 years thats not saying much. My guess is Pioneer and El Rancho will still be bad football teams this year. El Rancho a little better then Pioneer probably. La Serna is losing a lot so they will probably be in the middle with Whittier but possibly worse i don't really know what they got to be honest. I just know they lost a lot of talent. So i could be wrong on them. Whittier will be similar to last year. They will be improved in most areas, especially the passing game. But they won't have Enriquez so i can't see them being better. Cal Hi should be strong but will be dependent on defense as usual. I don't see their quaterback causing much problems if you put pressure on him. With out a mobile quaterback it will really heard the spread offense cause it takes away the option. And if they go to a more conventional offense it will hurt what jones does which is run well in the open field. He won't run well between the tackles. Gamino could be a darkhorse running back this year with a big offensive line in front of him. Last Santa fe how can you count them out. They will have a strong defense and probably the leagues best balanced offense. Can't be the champs till u beat the champs. One more thing if whittier can get an offensive line going and Gonzalez stays healthy watch out he can put up big numbers he's very talented. That being said i think at best whittier will be battling for third this year. All and all i would say the league is down but it will be very competitve. Good luck to everybody!
Recruiting update,,,,La Habra senior to be defensive back Dominic Sierra 6'1" 198 lbs. was offered and has committed to the University of Hawaii. He will play linebacker for the Warriors.
more then likely Avina jr will still be the freshmen coach, of course with his Dad. maybe only right now the numbers are down for (freshmen) them. the varsity is low in numbers for SP but that could change and i believe it will soon. SP is going to put some hurt on the opposing team.
