Serra, Lakewood take Santa Fe TofC titles

| | Comments (28) |

Serra High School used a quick start to defeat defending champion Lakewood and win the passing event in Santa Fe High school's annual Tournament of Champions competition held Saturday.
The victory denied Lakewood's bid to sweep the two-pronged contest that included a nine-event lineman competition won by the Lancers.
Thirty-eight schools participated in the passing, including
Burbank Burroughs, which defeated Lynwood, 25-21, to capture the consolation division.
With pass completions worth from 1 to 3 points, depending on the yardage gained, Serra completed seven consecutive mid-range passes to take a 14-0 lead on its opening 10-play possession in title finale.
The Cavaliers led, 14-7, after Lakewood opted for the longer passes in its fist possesion and struggled.
Despite Lakewood's defense accounting for three points with an interception and a deflected pass on Serra's second series, the Cavaliers ended the game early by completing eight of nine passes to reach the maximum 30 point limit.
In the semifinals, Lakewood defeated Long Beach Wilson by a point and Serra edged Carson.
With game limits of 30 minutes or 30 points, whichever came first, Lakewood played nine games, winning seven of them. Serra, which had an afternoon bye, posted an 8-0 record.
The Cavaliers scored the maximum points in all four of their morning contests, and then made it five in a row by beating Schurr, 30-10, in a second-round afternoon game.
Local teams participating in the passing were California, which finished with a 4-2 record, La Serna (4-2), Schurr (4-2), Santa Fe "A" (3-3), Whittier (2-3) and Santa Fe "B" (3-5).
Teams who traveled the farthest to compete were Salt Lake City Olympus (1-6), Barstow (1-5), Ventura St. Bonaventure (3-3) and San Diego Westview (6-1) and Mountain Empire (0-5).
Lakewood totaled 295 points in winning the lineman competition. Local teams' scores were California, seventh with 237, Santa Fe "A" 236 (eighth), Schurr 170 (17th), La Serna 161 (21st), Whittier 130 (33rd), and Pioneer 85 (38th).
Pioneer did not compete in the passing competition.

Shxxx talker,

This is my first time "blogging". I was told about this medium at the camp. I am not impressed with this as a "communicating vehicle". It is amazing to me how many idiots like yourself that are out there. There is no way comments like yours would be said man-to-man, face to face. Where do you rats come from? I have read several other local blogs, and only the OC varsity seems to keep it clean. Are these grown men spewing back and forth or high school kids? You cannot tell from the text. Fools.

SP: know nothing! I believe Santa Fe has had more Division 1 rides than SP lately. If not, name them!!!

1 championship in 30 years. That was a fine team, I know, but that running back recruited from Diamond Ranch was to that football team what Encinas is to the baseball team. Great Defense on that championship team. Can you match it without Jimenez's energy?

You guys sure talk. I have been reading baseball stuff all spring and you reach the Quarterfinals in Division IV. Thats good but Cal did that two years in a row in a higher division.

Well new in this town, park your horse and stay awhile because your post is as phony as plastic. So stay and try to push your bull Shxx. The Principal is worried. Our school needs help not lies.

So Santa Fe could not even come close in their own camp WOW. I guess that's why we received the areas good players, who would want to go to the high school buffalo bills. The running back 'Turner' is still looking for a place, man with his talent, almost anywhere, but SFHS does not care. The Chiefs don't help their football kids go to the next level. Because the coach is KIng!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

St Pauls camp went off with a blast! My kids loved it, and the groups of parents I bumped into loved it. Instill the pride and passion into the pre-high school kids as early as possible! Let them draw it home, to ST PAUL!!!!!!!!!!!

The city of SFS is tired of low rent St Paul people. We are a shame of that school. Every year they attack every kid, program and event from a public school and they don't stop there, they will attack other private schools. Please close or move that cancer! The city will be much better off.

i hope your kids do better than you at SP. i am wondering what brought you back, should we all at the school hope you go away.

hell my axx Rich, what about on what is going on with our legendary Coach. The old school coach is too old school. Is it that our new beautiful Principal (Barr) can only think of money. we have the youth camp this weekend and the football passing practice Saturday with other schools. We parents pay tuition and still have to work like dogs. Old Coach (Ancich) how much should we give? Rich. A Jr. is this really you, tell your Dad to ease up. I still remember when Pops, old cholo (Avina) coach, he coach us at youth football. And you Rich, you weren't too good lol, that's what my kids use.

Rich said:

Hell, the way the locals (schools) fared, I guess St Paul is still area’s top dog! Santa Fe didn’t look to good. Oh were loving it. This is going to be a fun year. Now did someone say, lol, that Cal Hi could beat us “SP”? Not this year nor this lifetime and maybe not in the next life. Strap up and add some extra padding because you fools are going to need it,…. boys!
