Area's Top 5 QBs could be a Top 7

Before "opening day" I tag La Habra's Cody Clements as the best quarterback in the area. Great arm surrounded by the areas best players and coaches. After all, it is not by chance that they have earned all of those CIF Championships.

Therefore I do not believe today's game will become La Mirada's identity, because of who they are playing. Of course if they win, I am totally wrong! But they will not!

Josh should definitely be ranked higher after his performance against West Covina.

AJ was a good kid with a solid foundation at home. He went to ER and was there for 4 year. Rene on the other hand is a great kid but his dad is looking for 'the beast deal". He will end up at ER in a year. Best of luck to the kid. The dad knows nothing about commitment.

Medina is an isolated type incident. He is a great kid and his mom is really nice, I am curious to see if the father is really his dad or an agent that was hired to get free tuition. Amazing the stuff that comes out of the agents mouth....Best of luck, Rene

I am a former Pico Rivera Don and former Swordsman, my father and uncles all played at the Ranch that being said, the program that SP offers is a "little" different than that of El Rancho's. I see El Rancho making strides in resurrecting a once proud program back to dominance. Coach Rick Zepeda, we wish you the best this upcoming season. Beat EVERYONE. Also good luck to St. Paul make all doubters believers and play hard with pride and dignity. Good luck to all current PR Dons at all schools. Also all real, SWORDSMEN know how important Pico has been to St. Paul in the past and will be in the future..

I can't believe that people are on here ripping the PR Dons especially St. Paul people. Some of the best players St. Paul has had in the last 30 years were developed by the PR Dons and by people like Coach Bob and the rest of his staff. PR Dons have had success at several area high schools such as St. Paul, El Rancho, Bosco, and Amat. Not only does Coach Bob help develop good, disciplined (he hates offsides) football players, but also good, disciplined people. And yes he and the rest of the PR Dons staff do go the extra mile for the kids.

I am a person who was highly influenced by Coach Bob and Coach Gonzales and although I have done well for myself, I will always look back at my days with the PR Dons with great memories!

I know of two former PR Dons that The PR Dons that did not play high school together (one went to Amat and the other went to El Rancho) and they went onto play college together. During their college days they talked about how great it was to be a Don. And no it wasn't because that was their only glory they ever had. The PR Dons helped mold me into what I am today so to talk bad of the coaches does piss me off.

If St. Paul doesn't want PR Don kids anymore than that's their fault because they will be missing much of their core players.

Yeah they may all start, but whom else do we have, not one of these kids are gonna bring us a victory, too slow not much talent. Anyone can see that they will have trouble making Cerritos JC in the future. We never won with a pr don kid leading the way. SP has to look elsewhere period.

hate to waste my time coming on here but i need to set this straight with the Medinas on this blog so you can all see. it wasn't me posting anyhting earlier about Rene,Archie,or anybody else.if you know me, you know that i, and all the men i coach with have made lasting friends with the medinas, and many other families from the DONS over the last 17 years.i support the medinas, rene and all the other families that i have had the pleasure of coaching their kids over the years.i always say that i love youth football more because of the relationships you make out there. you don't get that in high school. so, say what you want, pretend to be me, but to all those who know me, you know i will go the extra mile for your kids.no matter what, no matter where.whether your at el rancho, whittier,bosco ,Sp or wherever. you know if i coached your son in his youth, you have a life long friend in me. my one and only response.

Not coach Bob, but its not Pop Warner, Junior all American. I was told by the coaches the kid was OK and the Dad a pill. Not all the yelling could help, the kid had a focus problem. They thought SP could help. I didn’t attend SP but my kid does so I know the coaches were more than reasonable. In reality, He’s no Paul, and was given every chance. A kid or any kid has to compete; high school and Rivera Park are worlds away.

Dear sports fan original: I am four and a half, and I know it’s hard for you to believe I don’t drink yet but I don’t. We Cal Hi will go 10&0 this season and cream your Alma mater “Whittier”. Cal will knock the majesus out SF, write it down anyone or tattoo it on your arm anyone. The rest of the league isn’t worth mentioning.

Del Villar is probably the best quarterback. But you probably won't see it because he doesn't have much talent around him. My guess is that opposing coaches and his own fans will respect him, but the average fan that only gets to see him probably once when he is facing their team will not be impressed because Pioneer will be a very poor team. Its had to look good at quarterback if your team can't block or get open for you.

There is absolutely no denying that ER has been at the bottom of the DRL the last 2/3 years. You have to remember ER was at the tail end of a bad coaching stint in 2006. The 2007 team was an example of the very least an ER varsity team should be. The 2008 Senior class was our worse SR class in a very long time, they never dominated as freshmen, they went 1-9. On top of it being a bad class, there was injuries all over the place. In that 2007 game vs Cal Hi, Montoya, Sanchez, Ayala, Turner, Perea, and Harshbarger played a big role. Of those players Montoya, Perea and Harshbarger started, Ayala was returning kickoffs. I will not say that ER is going to win league, but they are going to make the playoffs and they will win some games.

On 10.23.09 you will both get your chance to prove your point and one of you will win the other lose. So if you guys are players (ER/CH) of each team, hit the weights eat nails for lunch and practice your butts off and save your energy for the game. The fans expect a great game "gun fight at the OK corral" football style. The best sport in the world is finally here!!!

Just wondering, are you serious? Viramontes is probally a great kid but he doesn't have a great arm. The boys are awesome for the Redskins but not for highschool. You can't compare him to Pioneer or La Serna's QB.

El Rancho no we don't want to go further back. Thats all you El Rancho fans ever do. Almost every kid on your squad has never won a league varsity football game so how can you predict a league championships. make the playoffs thats all im saying. win a game thats all im saying. El Rancho is the dirt of the del rio league latley don't know what happend. I don't understand lower levels dominate and then when they come to varsity 0-5 in league two out of three years. Maybe one or two of your players participated in the game a couple of years ago lol. But the majority participated in that horrible season you guys had a year ago. Cal has been in playoffs the last 4 years. Made it as far as the semi's twice. you guys went once and got knocked out the first round. Not to mention the year you guys beat us we Won League! I would rather win league then get one win over someone else.

You should be glad that Gabe Encinas wasn't at SF because your brother would have never played. Steven Del Villar is twice the QB Flores is. Just because he isn't surrounded with as much talent doesn't mean he isn't better. He is bigger, faster and throws better. Defenses have to defend him. When defenses play SF they will defend the run and Oliver. Too compare him to Burke from La Serna was just stupid. He was the MVP of the league. Flores won't even be the MVP of your own team.

Has anyone seen Matthew Viramontes from Whittier. He has a strong arm and very accurate. I think he will be one of the best in the league, especially that whittier got their offensive coordinator back from chino. Dont under estimate that kid. I believe his younger brother is a Freshman there too and he also has a very good arm.

ok #1. as a st paul grad paul lopez will not do anything at st paul besides hand off the ball to his running backs deon white and drake griffin, and even besides that where is his leadership. ok #2. who is pioneer? this guy will have a good pre season and then hit the dump when league comes around.#3. this la mirada qb will not be talked about when they have a losing record vs all the local schools thay have on there schedule. la mirada will not go by my alma mater st. paul, they will not go by la habra, or even cal. therefore #4. my bro, the santa fe qb was the best qb in the league last year he lead his team to a come back win over cal and he dominated in the la serna game, yet he was second team all league; very political. my lil bro has set goals and he understands wat needs to be done. he's both mentally and physically ready for his senior and i look forward to see him just be the dominate and consistant qb in the area. not to mention his back up that will make him the qb he will be. andrew jackson the man child @ wr. cameron the speedster @ wr. sophomore christian mahlstede who has hands like no other. the dominant run game that santa fe consistantly has every year. and now the force to be reckoned with the hogs. the o line up front are beast and are willing to go to war anytime for my lil bro. therefore, under rated as i like it. my lil bro has people to prove wrong and he shall over come these obstacles if hes healthy and keeps his and his teams mind right. 80% mental 20% physical.

Ok, I understand why you left out the QB's from Cal. The kid who gets the starting job will be a first time starter. I get that. However you leed me to believe you have not seen Eddie Artega or Adam Contreras throw. If you had you would know that both these kids can throw. I don't believe Coach Arnold has decided on a starter yet. They both seem to be taking equal snaps. Eddie is a Senior and may get the nod. However I believe Adam has more to work with. He just seems to have a better transmission. It's sure fun to watch him throw. Just remember where you heard the name first!

Ayala's numbers better be bigger and better. Iam sure, that the Del Rio will be aware of who he is this year. With the ranch not having a good running game. I heard that the two kids that they thought were going to be in the backfield, are not. A big fullback did not finish summer school, so he did not make grades. A sophmore tailback just does not want to play this year. Shock the league, yes that would be shocking.

Hey Area Fan, I was at the 7 on 7 When ER came down to SP. All Perea did in that 7 on 7, was throw to the running backs out of the back field into the flat. Those are passes you give up and rally to. Which QB wouldn't be able to complete those passes. C'mon they never completed any deep passes...

Yes Perea, has Ayala. But his numbers will be bigger and better with more support at Recievers. On top of that he has a second year under a new system. Cant wait till they shock the League and Area. I totally agree Coach Bob. Paul is the real deal, the article that came out a couple of weeks ago was comical. Coach A saying Rene would give Paul some competion, are you crazy. Yes Paul beat out others as a sophmore but he was hungry and ready. Paul is a great QB with experience. He is going to have a tough year with SP's foothball team, thin on numbers and talent.

The kid is a soph and Lopez is a senior. How can you compare the two? Ask the same questions in two years. Lopez is a class all by himself this year. To bad he won't be able to showcase his stuff. Power left and power right is all he's going to see. SP is just about finished. Those glory years that everyone talks about are long gone. It might as well be called Los Padrinos on Greenleaf. Great example on teaching kids how to act outside of school grounds. Bottom line is you get what you deserve. Early prediction:

Why do you think Medina left? If you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen, Pops can talk until he’s blue in the face and his kid still won’t be the starter, that might of work for his dad when the kid played at the pr dons but this is high school and more at stake. You guys are missing the boat here, I'm sure this young men are very good quarterbacks, but the best prospect around is a young man at Bell Gardens High School name Josh Adame who at 6'3" at around 200lbs is most certainly will be playing on Saturday afternoons one day. What is scary is he's only a junior as he made 2nd team all-league as a sophomore. This young man as a 4.0 GPA and possesses one of the most accurate arms around and is a leader. You may see a different Bell Gardens football team this year because of this kid.
