Flores, Willson select colleges
Adrian Flores, a main cog in St. Paul High School's boys basketball league championship season this past winter, has signed with Northland College, an NCAA Division III affiliate in Ashland, Wis.
Flores averaged a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) in helping the Swordsmen to a 22-6 record overall and a 10-0 mark atop the Camino Real League.
In a story by Garett Greenwald, associate sports editor for the Ashland Daily Press, coach Ron Robinson cited the 6-foot-5, 230-pound forward's potential.
"He moves very well for a guy of his size," Robinson said, comparing Flores favorably to former Lumberjack standout Dallas Goodman (1996-97).
Chris Willson, a pitcher/first baseman for the Swordsmen, has committed orally to Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
Willson, a 6-5, 230-pound senior, batted .325 with six home runs and 23 runs batted in this past season. In 13 appearances on the mound, he posted a 6-5 record with one save, struck out 62, walked 30 and had a 2.96 earned run average in 52 innings in helping the Swordsmen to an 18-13 record overall and 9-3 in the Del Rey League.
Willson currently is contending for St. Paul's starting quarterback's job.

everyone just hates because their kids or their players at they're school dont get recognized or scholly's to any college. have fun at jc's while us swordsmen go to D.1...
Wilson wasn't a force in a lower baseball division in high school. I think this is other pr thing from st paul. The kid should play wherever, sp always over hipe everything!
The reason the term committed orally was used was that the Letter of Intent for the scholarship can not be signed later in the year. So a verbal committment is all he can do right now. Each sport has a signing period, for example football is in February. This Willson kid had offers to North Carolina, Wake Forest and Stanford.
Why do some of you have to be such a haters?
Hum....A 4.0 at St Paul, doesn't sound good!!!
Has Willson learned how to throw a strike yet? Thanks for those 9 free passes last season.
actually wilson got a 75% with athletics and the rest academics. he holds a 4.0 gpa and higher so i dout that he'll be at a jc.
Unless he is walking on. Roger uses "committed orally" but did not mention scholarship...........
No scholarship, nothing and I mean nothing. Most likely He will be at Cerritos JV. Thanks AD Hernandez. When does a (SP) school check the grades of the athletic kids, when the the season is over? When we have use them up?

Roger,
Any other seniors to be at St. Paul comitting to play baseball anywhere?
The University Los Padrinos, the highest education St Paul has to offer. Hey just ask anyone.
Yo, Lancer: Schurr baseball coach Ken Marrero stepping down? Not according to him.
"Definitely not," he said in a telephone interview Tuesday afternoon while walking through the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. "I'm enjoying myself (coaching) and I'm taking it one year at a time."
As for "turning the program over to his son-in-law": "Impossible. I don't have a son-in-law." For the record, he also doesn't have any daughters.
Great news for these two young men. Roger, have you heard any rumor on kenny, the head baseball coach at Schurr High leaving and giving the job to his son-in-law? Anyone know?
I believe Wake Forest is D1 in baseball as it is in basketball and football. If so, they give baseball scholarships and he will not pay too much if anything.
Unless he is walking on. Roger uses "committed orally" but did not mention scholarship.
Roger,
Any other seniors to be at St. Paul comitting to play baseball anywhere?
Roger,
Is Stern at Utah State? He isn't on the roster.
CONGRATULATIONS! to both young men.
Good luck for all this year's Senior class in their efforts. May all their academic and athletic goals come true.
I'm happy for these athletes from St. Paul high school, even if they haven't signed with any Pac-10 colleges. It's great knowing some of the student-athletes from my school are going to be getting some experience playing college ball.
Area fan, you take a few night classes Lol. Do you think you are wowing someone here?
WOW! EVEN WHEN KIDS HAVE A GREAT OPPORTUNITY ARISE FOR THEM, ALWAYS HAS TO BE SOMEONE THERE TO TRY TO TEAR THEM DOWN OR KNOCK THEM FOR IT. ITS A SAD STATE OF TODAYS "ADULTS" HAMMER AT KIDS THIS WAY, REGARDLESS OF SCHOOL, CITY OR OTHERWISE. AND THAT IS 95% OF WHAT GETS BLOGGED HERE. AND THESE SAME ADULTS WONDER WHATS WRONG WITH KIDS TODAY. START BY LOOKING IN THE MIRROR FIRST. HEY GUYS CONGRATULATIONS. YOUR HARD WORK IS OBVIOUSLY PAYING OFF, NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO TO SCHOOL. KEEP YOUR HEADS UP!!!
Tax payers pay for public schools, as well as partial tuition at colleges or universities. No one pays full tuition unless you're out of state or fall into a higher tax bracket. Private school tuition paying parents pay for both public school and about 70% of their child's private school tuition. The other 30% is made up of 50-200 additional hours of school fund- raising duties. Some parents opt-out and pay out the needed additional hours. However, there are students who receive some financial assistance.
It doesn't matter where these kids attend high school or college. The most important thing is that they apply themselves, make wise choices and finish school. Good Luck to both these kids. We should all be proud of Flores and Wilson. They're from OUR COMMUNITY.
Whittier,
Your comments are typical of a kid that is going to amount to nothing. Instead of bashing kids that are headed to a higher education institution you should take a few night school classes and learn how to write. It is a great accomplishment to get into a four year university, playing sports there is icing on the cake. Great job Chris and Adrian. We are very proud of you. Roger could you please follow up on all area kids headed to four year schools, so we can follow their careers. Thanks...
Wow; so both will "pay" for college? As if they never played a sport in their entire life. Both of those schools tuition's are low for California kids, even at the the low end. So why go and pay for high school////
oh may bad they didn't pay, they were told we will find you a spot at USC,UCLA, etc.
