Swordsmen Athletic Director resigns

| | Comments (31) |

Marc Hernandez, who served as St. Paul High School's athletic director the past four years, resigned his position Thursday morning to accept a managment position "outside the teaching profession."
"I was offered a situation that was too good to turn down," Hernandez explained. "It is an opportunty that will change my family's situation." Hernandez also cited a desire to spend more time with his family.
"The hours are much more conducive for family life," Hernandez said. "I have only one son, and (Thursday )was his fifth birthday. Watching him made me realize how much of his growth I have missed. This job gives me the opportunity to be around him more and enjoy his growing up."
Hernandez joined St. Paul's football staff in year 2000 and served as the Swordsmen's defensive line coach for five years. He also was the school's Dean of Discipline in 2001.

I see that we have a lot of st. paul people here who are very much interested in the progress of our great school. We all look forward to the next 50 years. we can ALL step up to help our school continue the tradition by stepping up the plate and provide a contribution to help it along. Tuition alone is not enough to make ST Paul a great school, we need to put our money where our mouth is.

The end is coming:
Don Keydick your post is nothing new . What is new is the numbers at SP's football team. It seems to be shrinking everyday...Don Keydick... As for SP, I was at there practice and I must say that it looks very sad. No size, no speed, no excitement. We could be in for a long year....... The no talent part has always been part of SP, but they have always had lots of kids to choose from. It looks like that has come to an end.

Yo Murray,

Thanks for being open minded towards my harsh words towards you. That shows great character on your behalf. Keep up the good work. I really mean that.

Everyone knows that the school is in shambles facility wise and some teachers need credentials, plus some teachers just need to leave. The true lovers of St Paul, Alumni know what’s at stake. Our beautiful Principal has a task before her, that is huge, she our Barack! This up and coming school year enrollment is very low but last year’s kids are leaving also. Change is starting to take place; it is not or won’t be easy. Like “Barr” said: it’s not just about sports its education, So the alums will want to bring their kids and grand kids.

Roger, you’re like all the SP people (Please be secific.) who can spell maybe: but are only looking for a fight. I want to know who will at SP better prepare Lopez, coach A? So if he moves to the next level what kind of instructions could a 300-year-old man who never pass the ball first teach him? I guess don keydick might have it right.

Don Keydick said:

Yo, Murray,

Just go ask Paul Lopez how he feels! I stand by my comments about Paul. Yes, he will be misused. No doubt about it.Do you think running the power with a QB of his talents will benefit the team? He is probably the best runner also. A great coach builds around his players not the other way. Am I wrong? I Don't think so! You use his talents to stretch the field. That's why your a reporter and not a coach. Are you the head of the Ancich fan club?
As for Ms. Barr, I know first hand what she's all about. Look at the hiring process of Ancich. He was in her back pocket. Not one interview was conducted. Not one! Why is that? You mean to tell that a guy like Chuck Willig didn't deserve a interview. He's just as strong or stronger of a candidate. I understand that I'm being judgemental but that's my opinion. The only thing she has done is spend 50,000 on paint and cleaning the floors. That is a fact. You should ask the administration how they feel. Lots of mixed emotions.
Other then that, Have a great day !

Yo, Don Keydick: Just curious, are you confused about her role as the school's principal. Everything about the school is supposed to 'go through her.' And about 'nothing good has happened since her arrival. Nothing but drama.' Which decisions has she made that you disagree with and feel have contributed to what you call St. Paul's 'decline.' Please be specific. As for your sympathy for Paul Lopez, it is sorely misplaced. Is it safe to assume that your concern for what you perceive will be the misuse of his talents is based upon the belief that in Ancich's offense Lopez will not pass enough? That speaks volumes about the shortsightedness in your analytical capabilities. Make no mistake, even if you disagree with Ancich's philosophy, If Lopez spends a season playing for him, he undoubtedly will be better prepared for moving to the next level.

People?

Are you SP people serious? I was not a big fan of Marc but I know he gave his heart everyday while at SP. You SP people are so sick it's not funny. All you sideline, bleacher coach's that don't know the first thing about sports. It's obvious that SP is on the decline and it's because of all the negative parents that talk to much. Time will take it's course. And believe me, SP is going down. Alot of the blame should also be pointed at Ms. Barr. Nothing good has happened since her arrival. Nothing but drama! If you talk with her you will see my point. She loves being in control.
Marc never made any decision with her overlooking his position. Everything had to go through her. Why have an AD? I'm sure the next AD will be someone that has no backbone. No big name coach or AD will come. To much drama.
As for this season outlook, It looks very sad. All the coach's are fighting. The kids are signing a petition to have a coach removed. What kind of promise is that? I guess coach G wasn't that bad after all. At the end of the season dont point fingers like usual.
I feel really sad for some of the kids like Paul Lopez. His talents will not be showcased with Ancich at the helm. SP football is on it's last leg. Like I said before, Los Pedrinos on Greenleaf! The worst part of all this is that nothing is being done by the school. Nice example of leadership from top to bottom...

I don't believe I ever mentioned Coach G or how much I hate him. I was speaking about Marc Hernandez. He wasn't what St. Paul is about, period. I had doubts he even had a connection with St. Paul's past because he didn't treat alumni like they were part of the St. Paul family. That's my statement, so please don't turn it into something else to bring publicity on Coach G or Montebello football. I don't know him, nor am I really a big fan of football. My message is about something bigger than him or a single sport, it's about a sense of family that makes St. Paul a fond memory and a great experience for us alumni.

Oh and for the Amat guy, what's your problem? Notice how no one cared about your ignorant statement. Try winning something before you say something about our school. We weren't talking to you, but you're welcome for Coach Ertle...he's really done well for your school's basketball program!

St. Paul pride said:

I know Mr. Medina was overwhellming. But lets not do this again with the bashing of Coach Gonzalez and his staff. Why cant we get over this, we make our school look silly. Good luck to all kids and ex-coaches. Lets not forget he won us a CIF championship after two decades. So once again good luck to all.

amat fan said:

You SP people are too much. At least with the former coach your team competed, you will get blown out of the water this year by all teams. Then no one will want to go to SP at all. Your school should close down, that would be the best thing for SP.

HER&HIM said:

SP, like all schools, must evaluate and always improve itself. I just don't like airing it in public because it can confirm a wrong perception of our school. Many parents do not delve into the positive things at SP, they read one tempermental blogger comment, and that's all it takes for them to enroll their student elsewhere. So to throw your words back to you "Saying everything is bad won't help the school either"

Please note: I am not slighting the recent off-campus violence. Although I do not know too many details, it is a horrible situation that cannot be ignored. My prayers have been for the young man assaulted.

To All the alumni who HATE Peter G, Marc H and the old staff, what’s the deal? From the outside looking in, aren’t these the guys that brought a Championship back to SP, the first since 1981….. Good Luck Marc.

SP Swordsmen said:

As most of us see it, things are more than looking up. Pete G and Medina's Dad are gone now, Mac. H. (AD) its not Christmas but it sure feels like it. The alum got what the school needed. Maybe now we can increase enrollment. All people (alum) want honesty in our school. People like her&him would like to look the other way. Saying everything is great wont help the school.

Former SP Coach said:

Hey Mark thanks for allowing me to be apart of the SP family. It was a great experience and I thorughly enjoyed my time there. Congratulations on your new endeavor. Remember, no one can ever take away the success SP had while you were the AD.

God Bless,
Former Coach

I wonder if we should just have a blog for St Paul people. Why have everything that goes on at our little private school be aired in such a public display?

I concur with part of Swordsmen Alum's comments -- (not the personal comments on the AD because I don't believe in hacking personalities or efforts of people in this public setting), but the HAVING A TREMENDOUS PRIDE AND A SENSE OF BELONGING WITH THE PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE OF ST. PAUL. That's the element that is present is all small institutions. The glue that keeps them going.

Best wishes to Mr. Hernandez in his new career. Seems to be a good choice when you have a young son. Time flies, so spend it well.

Swordsmen Alum said:

Thank God. This guy was NOT good for St. Paul. St. Paul is a magnificent institution because it values tradition and alumni. He treated alumni like they were never apart of the school. I lost faith in St. Paul while he was there. Please replace him with someone who has connections to the successful years of St. Paul history. Despite what bloggers say on this site, most Swordsmen alumni are good and decent people who value good local schools and have tremendous pride and a sense of belonging with the past, present, and future at St. Paul. WE ARE ST. PAUL!!!
