Thursday results ... no surprises
The weekend's area high school football games began pretty much as expected in terms of which teams won, but the interesting part is how it was accomplished.
La Mirada 35, California 20: The Matadores' passing and running was so efficient it almost looked methodical. Quarterback Daniel Poncedeleon only went deep once (incomplete), relying instead on short, quick throws to wide open receivers. Even the 80-yard scoring play was a short sideline pass that rerceiver Julian Matta, with the help of some poor tackling, turned into the big gainer. And effective game plan combined running backs Max Gama (17-63) and Matt Haltom (11-55) with Poncedeleon (16 for 20 for183 yards) and no interceptions. California's opening drive (11 plays, 81 yards) was impressive, but the Condors didn't put anything together effectively again until the final minutes when backup quarterback Adam Contreras completed four of five passes to move the Condors 65 yards in 39 seconds for their final touchdown, the score coming on a 35-yard pass to Ben Siepak with 27 seconds to play.
La Habra 37 South Hills 10: Host Highlanders were up 17-10 at halftime, then wore the Huskies down as Josh Quezada rushed for 185 yards and four touchdowns to offset three interceptions thrown by quarterback Cody Clements.

It wasn't from you it was from me.
That post wasn't me, sport fan original, but I and many are not sure about you?
sports fan original,
you're a moron.
I do not have to coach to know sports. I learned more about winning and using sports as a direction for life at Cal Poly under Coach John Scolinas, who is one of the winningest coach in college baseball history.
His teachings can be used for all sports. And, one of his major concepts was "Talk is Cheap, Action is Valuable".
And I do not get on these blogs to put players down, except in the case of those St. Paul talkers, that think they are much better than they are. If they talk they are better than Servite and La Habra, then I state my point of view.
And again in the case of Whittier High, I based most of my writing to the administration because I believe (from watching them play different sports once in a while) they can be "winners", not only in attitude and hard work but statistically. I am not one who believes the kids at Whittier are much less talented than most of the schools they play!
kids keep writing and express yourselves!
sp and matador
yes these blogs are to talk. But when "La Mirada" states "we have to rest the main players" and they did not, then other bloggers like "sports fan original" has the right to correct the information.
For example I learned that Ponce De Leon played the whole game at quarterback. THAT IS DEFINITELY NOT RESTING "THE MAIN PLAYER". He is the starting QB who runs the offense. I also figure that LM coaches(and you know I believe these coaches will help bring LM back) would not leave Ponce De Leon in with a "all second string line" blocking for him. They are smarter than that.
It is not fair to Cal Hi to say you rested the main players. Readers will think you could have beaten them worse. AND THE TRUTH IS YOU COULD NOT HAVE. I also read you scored on an interception return. So if the quarterback did not make a big mistake, the game may have been closer?
And Matador, if you really are a student athlete, keep it up; you write very well. You seem to be very educated, much unlike the St. Paul bloggers.
But, your comprehension about Whittier is a little off. My major concern with Whittier was the administration "OVER LISTENING" to the parents. NOT THE ATHLETES!!!!
Amen Matador; sports fan original needs to go coach a team or play for one. And only then he can part all he's wisdom. I think Murray wants us to blog, which in titles talk. Why would this page state "leave a comment.
The problem is we have been reading your blogs over the past year and you are a troublemaker. You come on here try to tell people what to say and what not to say, only Murray has the power on what gets on here. He approves or disapproves, so don’t stand with us we can stand alone. This blog is up for the kids to communicate on however they choose, most of the kids know each other for years, it’s just talk, every school is focused and works hard but someone has to lose. Please don’t blog for us; we have seen how mean you are with the Whittier kids.
El Rancho has been without their starting QB....
You Cal fans are getting ridiculous. Watched your game & the coach is working with what he has, which doesn't look like much this year. He has game planned pretty good against us the last two years but, this year you are in trouble and it's not because of your coach.
I heard you played your quarterback the whole game and almost the rest of the starters! You had to. You were only up two touchdowns with about a minute to go.
I also heard you were only up one touchdown in the third period. ROGER, IS THAT CORRECT? YOUR ARTICLE STATES CAL DID NOT SCORE UNTIL THE FINAL MINUTE. DID YOU FORGET A CAL TD?
La Mirada: if you have read my blogs over the past year, I am one of your biggest fans. I think Muschetti, Carmona, and company are going to help La Mirada go to the CIF Finals very soon. Maybe this year! Especially with LM in a much weaker division!
Good Luck.
I hope the LM players do not start "blogging" too much. Stay quiet and "do it". TALK IS CHEAP and you guys have not talked, just improved and worked hard!!
St. Paul talks and El Rancho has began to talk (then they lose to Bell Gardens).
You may have something "very special" going! Stay focused.
Cal's game plan was stupid. They don't know who is the QB. I guess #9 Jones is the everything man!! Bad coaching.
We didn't play all our good players the whole game. We have to rest the main players. Good luck Cal.
