Week 1 Post-deadline results
Some information on the results of game reports that were too late for our early deadlines:
El Rancho 21-14 over Cerritos, as Art Franco rushed for 242 yards and two touchdowns, and quarterback Troy Campos, a late replacement for starter Josh Perea who sat out with an ankle injury, scored on a 3-yard sneak to break a 14-14 tie in the third quarter. LInebacker Tate Harshbarger keyed a strong defensive effort with six tackles and Jake Garcia knocked down a fourth-and-goal pass in the end zone with four seconds to play to preserve the victory.
Whittier Christian 37-30 over host Santa Paula, the Heralds battling back from a 27-13 halftime deficit. Tailback Garrett Fulbright rushed for 229 yards and three touchdowns, and defensive lineman Jeff Worthy had a monster game with 13 solo tackles, two sacks, and four tackles for losses. Quarterback Stephen Anderson struggled with just eight completions in 20 attempts but for a respectable 160 yards and two scores. He was intercepted three times.

You El Rancho players have talked too much, and now you lost.
Stop talking and love and play football as hard as you can! Then your dreams may come true!!
ya'll havent even seen my lil nephew play for the el rancho yet,Kevin Gilbert, they saving him for league, cus his a little injuried, oh jus wait and see, ya'll going b suprised
Dons, don’t underestimate the enormous task that lies ahead. BG has its star players, #11 J. Adame Qb 6’3” 207/ #10 J. Peraza Wr 6’2” 209/ #13 A. Velasco Wr 5’11” 144/ let’s not forget #3 Daniel Varges Rb 5’10” 175. In order to prevail, Dons go without hesitations seize your moment with outstanding courage and tremendous fortitude, get it done!!
I think LM is going to put it to CalHi. LM is a better football team than the LH score indicates. LH is a buzz saw and are way above anyone else in the area (including the team I root for - SP.)
LM will only get better as the year goes on.
Speaking of LH, they are going to put it to South Hills this week. I'm saying by at least 3 TD's.
Swordsmen beat a top city team on thew road...good solid victory.
one more thing Cal Alum:
Villa Park wasted no time in hiring Ancich. And they knew what happened at Cal!
Time will tell.
Let us see how Ancich does with an average at best Villa Park program. If the program improves, it will likely be because of Ancich and his staff.
Villa Park is too far from St. Paul to take their players. Only time will tell, but if we see improvements in VP's stagnant program then the credit MUST go to Ancich.
Hey Guys,
Whats your call on the La Mirada vs Calhi match on Thursday night?
El Rancho the Lancers are coming to your house, you know what to expect, good old fashion hard hitting. They’ll want to even the score from last year…. Make no small “plans” because they (small Plans) move no one and don’t get done……………. Therefore, Dons come out fire up and ready to roll………………………… Defend the Ranch!!!!!!!
Hey Don-key
Have you forgotten the A$$ whooping you received last year? I know it's a new year but, that was embarrassing, 38-0 halftime.
El Rauncho fans popping off again way to early. You might as well have a Raider on the side of your helmets, similar ignorance.
i wish cal hi alot of luck this week because they will need it against la mirada. i was not at cal's game last week, but no team will ever win giving up 6 turnovers. absolutely horrible!
this week cal will be 0-2, while the ranch will be 3-0. take that to the bank!
cal hi fans are starting to whine like sp fans..ha!ha!
Of course the parents & players loved Ancich, he made up address's & only cared about football at Cal. There are other sports that go on at a high school & when the coaches at the same school do not support each other, you have a problem. He bent the rules in order to get the best players he could but, he forgot Cal is a public school. It is not St. Paul & you play with what you have & hope to attract players through the pop warner ranks with a quality runned program. Believe or not, there is far more important issues to a high school than it's football program.
The administration did not support Ancich's tactics & decided to give him the boot, plain & simple. Props to the Cal admin for doing the right thing. Good luck Arnold, we stand behind a staight up program, win or lose.
I THINK THAT GLENN WILL BE A SURPRISE TEAM THIS SEASON AND THEY ARE GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. COACH WILSON AND HIS STAFF HAVE REENERGIZED THESE KIDS THEY ARE KEEPING KIDS AT THE SCHOOL. RIGHT NOW THERE ARE FIVE KIDS AT OTHER AREA HIGH SCHOOLS THAT WOULD MAKE THIS EVEN BETTER BUT THEY ARE WHERE THEY ARE. THESE PLAYERS ARE ALDEN DARBY WR/CB AT MILLIKAN LIVES BY GLENN, ANDREW JACKSON DB @ ST. JOHN BOSCO, MATT HALTOM AT LA MIRADA STARTED AS A SOPHMORE @ GLENN BEFORE LEAVING. THE STARTING QB @ NORWALK DOMINIQUE DIAZ PLAYED AS A FRESHMAN AT JOHN GLENN BEFORE HE LEFT DUE TO PERSONAL ISSUES. THESE ARE ALL FRESHMAN AND THEIR ARE SEVERAL UNDER CLASSMEN THAT HAVE LEFT AS WELL. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK EAGLES.
about Cal-Hi
Ancich was very well respected by parents and players, but not adminstration. Emphasis on very well!!
The fact is that Coach Arnold will never get the monkey off his back until Ancich's players are gone. Whether correct or not, the perception is that Arnold is winning because those were Dusan's guys. The junior class is Arnold's first class, so only time will tell. Good luck Cal!
ER played without Josh Perea.and Cerritos is slightly better, however, once Perea gets back this week,ER will be at full strength
Hey Don did you read the comment I said we will get back the deed to The Ranch. Yes you guys beat us last year this year I think not, bigger and faster than you this year. Cant wait there is going to be alot of hitting on both sides.
Well said "Another Cal High Parent". I am tired of Hearing these whining parents complain about a good man that has brought respectability to the Cal High program! If these parents are so enamored with Dusan Ancich, then take your kid out and leave. Go to Villa Park! Trust me, we won't miss you! Coach Arnold is one of the most honest men you will ever meet. He will not cheat to win! Look, no one likes to lose. However it happens. Last weeks game against Rowland was very frustrating because the offensive line worked their butts off and the team was able to move the ball. Any coach will tell you that it is very difficult to overcome six turnovers. Now, there may be a problem with the kids protectiong the ball and I know this week it will be addressed in practice. These kids will learn from their mistakes and I know Thursdays game against La Mirada will be a favorable one for us. Go Condors!
Hey Bg Lancer,
You guys will own ER just like last year huh?
Lulz
Cal needs a quarterback. Tough to win without a steady quarterback
Hope Glenn's success continues. They've been through a lot in recent years. Maybe the new staff is making a difference.
It is refreshing to see some of the former "also-rans" like La Mirada, Glenn and El Rancho making some noise this year.
BG and The Ranch black and blue game for sure the Lancers will get the deed back from the Ranch and WE WILL OWN THE RANCH again.
Not #41 you meant #43 the linebacker for Glenn. He is the real deal this year. Their team speed is rediculous. Good luck to Glenn the rest of the way. Its nice to see a team once in a while win with no transfers to depend on!!!Go EAGLES!!!
Cal Hi & Cal Parent
I believe you have to be one in the same with an ax to grind for whatever reason. I would guess your still bitter because Ancich got whacked & you still can't get over it. If you have a problem with the coaches, give some facts.
Friday's game they beat themselves with 6 turnovers. They moved the ball well on offense but continued to shoot themselves in the foot with the turnovers. The defense allowed 1 touchdown to the #4 ranked team in the division. Very few penalties, they just choked on the field.
They will have to coach their kids up this year for sure, they looked soft & nervous.
pioneer here we come, get read for a axx whipping like never before!!!!!!! pioneer why waste the cities time in your football program? Coach and kids.....WOW!!!! brace yourselves.
I agree these Cal Hi coaches have to go !!!!!! Arnold, Ramirez's, Zamora are the worst coaches CAL has ever had!!!!!! No knowledge, experience of football.
Pioneer had at least 21 penalties, over 200 yards worth. Huge plays were brought back because of them. J. Glenn #8, 1, and 41 were playmakers.
Anonymous you may be correct on ER looked uninspired. Cerritos is better than last year and they do have talent. We have to give them some credit; no depth and Cerritos did play hard. I could be wrong on this one, the two plays called back on A. Franco’s runs, would of put him well over 300 yards and breaks Ralph Delatorre single game rushing record of 304 yards vs. Cal Hi. The next game will be a large dogfight; will see who has the bigger fight in them. Go Dons.
St. Paul game update?
Matthew ER,
Cerritos is not good, I was at the game and ER looked uninspired. If ER plays like that again a long season could be in the works.
What about an update on the whittier game no article no update.
Cal Hi, Arnold, Ramirez's, Zamora are the worst coaches CAL has ever had!!!!!! Coach Ancich brought us into real football. These clowns has only hurt the football program at Cal. We have the most talent in the area and waste it. Hum, 10 and 0, will we win next week? The Cal coaches can talk all they want.
John Glenn's WR/CB Dejon Bernard had a great game and it was not all the penalties that you guys said conrtibuted to Pioneer losing. It was a great team effort oh yeah Glenn was a lot faster than Pioneer!
How about some late info from the Glenn vs. Pioneer Game. How about these stats DJ Bernard a blocked field goal returned for a TD, and Int Return for a TD, a TD reception, and a rushing TD. Oh yeah and Brandon Kelly had 25 carries and 274 yards last night. and all you guys wrote was pioneer committed 19 penalties. Get real Pioneer was weak and their QB shouldnt have played his injury is really bad no help last night at all. That makes Glenn 2-0 they are going to stay humble and continue working hard. Good Luck Boys. Del Villar sorry your coach doesnt excercise better judgement.
Nice win Dons: Cerritos is a much better team this year. For a team small in numbers, they had very good individual size and talent. Cerritos QB was 6’3” 212 with a line that sported 6’2” 242, 6’3” 295, 6’2” 256 6’ 3” 289, 6’ 264. Derek Jones “RB” 6’0” 181, Aaron Francis “RB” 6’0” 186, David Kim “RB” 6’0” 198, I am sure I missed a few others. My point is with some more kids on the team they would win a lot more games. Cerritos you played with great heart all night. Good luck the rest of the season.
