It's a frequent question asked and one that I've heard several times already. Just how good is the Montebello High School boys basketball team?

While this is a prep sports blog, the local area colleges deserve some space too. Rio Hondo College has a couple of big games today, starting at 5. Don't forget to support the locals.

Newest Feature

I'm going to debut a new feature for the blog and haven't yet come up with a snazzy title. However, on Mondays I'd like to feature a mini podcast to break up all this text.

So, every Monday, there will be a podcast with a different coach or athlete giving their thoughts on the either past, current or upcoming season.

I couldn't think of anyone better to start this process with than with St. Paul football coach Marijon Ancich.

With so many questions swirling around the program, I sat down with coach Ancich for a five-minute interview.

Please forgive my poor verbal performance, I'm not a radio guy. If there are suggestions for whom to speak with next, this is the place to list them.

Enjoy.

A Couple of Things

| | Comments (5) |

Unfortunately over the last few days, I've had to delete a number of comments. I don't like doing that. I feel if someone has something insightful to say, they shouldn't be censored.

However, the deleted comments have broken one or two rules that I wanted to list.

Which Score Was More Surprising?

| | Comments (12) |

Was it the Whittier boys basketball team's 67-42 win over California or was it the Whittier girls team's 62-28 takedown of Cal-Hi? Or how about the Pioneer boys beating Santa Fe, 55-49? Here come the Titans?

Big Day for DRL

Some of the clutter atop both the Del Rio League boys and girls basketball standings will clear today in what might be the biggest day of the first half of league play.

Did you happen to catch...

| | Comments (25) |

perhaps the biggest upset in the young Del Rio League boys basketball season.

Last Friday, Pioneer (5-15 overall, 1-2 in league) upset host Whittier, 55-54. The loss created a four-way tie for first place between Whittier (9-9, 2-1), California (8-8, 2-1), La Serna (9-10, 2-1) and Santa Fe (6-9, 2-1).

As was rumored here earlier on the blog, John Glenn High School head football coach Anthony Wilson officially resigned his post at Saturday's Glenn Football Banquet.

The rumors that Wilson is on his way to St. Paul are also true, although it is not known under what capacity he will serve.

Hey folks,

I just wanted to give a quick intro.

My name is Andrew Campa and I've officially taken over this blog as of today. I'm sorry for the delay in posts as it's just a one-man gang here for a while.

I'm excited to take over the position of preps sports editor and look forward to opening up this blog.

A humble retirement

| | Comments (18) |

Hey folks,

It's Andrew Campa.

I'm sorry for the delay in making this post. I've been overwhelmed with calls and questions that I thought I'd answer some here about Roger.

As was published in Wednesday's paper, Whittier Daily News Prep and Area College Editor Roger Murray officially resigned from duty effective Tuesday.

Here's the story - Murray's Retirement

It was a shock to the staff since he only hinted on Thursday of a possible intent to call it quits.

He tendered his resignation on Monday with Tuesday being his last day at work. I will miss Roger and I'm sure many others out there share the same sentiment. I've received quite a few emails and have answered many of the same questions in person or over the phone, so I wanted to do a quick Q & A to help clarify any issues.
