A humble retirement

Hey folks,

It's Andrew Campa.

I'm sorry for the delay in making this post. I've been overwhelmed with calls and questions that I thought I'd answer some here about Roger.

As was published in Wednesday's paper, Whittier Daily News Prep and Area College Editor Roger Murray officially resigned from duty effective Tuesday.

Here's the story - Murray's Retirement

It was a shock to the staff since he only hinted on Thursday of a possible intent to call it quits.

He tendered his resignation on Monday with Tuesday being his last day at work. I will miss Roger and I'm sure many others out there share the same sentiment. I've received quite a few emails and have answered many of the same questions in person or over the phone, so I wanted to do a quick Q & A to help clarify any issues.

1. Was Roger forced out?

This was the most common question, unfortunately, but I think it speaks more about the economy and current newspaper industry than anything else. This decision was freely made by Roger. He felt the time was right.

2. Why did he step down?

He mentioned a combination of factors, including earlier deadlines and larger workloads. He also wasn't too fond of blogging, something the company had really pushed.

3. What's next for him?

He said he is going to split time between Monrovia and Phoenix. Roger lives in Monrovia but has family in Arizona and he has expressed a desire to spend some quality time in the desert.

4. Is he done with the paper?

That's really up to him. He mentioned on Monday how might freelance during the football season or even write a column. I suppose Answer 3 has a lot to do with Answer 4.

5. How can we get in touch with him?

The best way is to email him at his work email, roger.murray@sgvn.com. He will still be checking that email address for another week. You can also drop off a letter or card at the office at 7612 Greenleaf Avenue, Whittier, 90602. A couple of people have already done that. As soon as I get a chance, I will hand those correspondences to him.

6. Who is taking over for him?

I accepted Roger's former position this morning. I'm blessed to have work with him and look forward in trying to keep up his legacy.

7. What does this mean for coverage?

It means that the coverage will be a little tighter for about a month. Until someone else is sent or hired down here, I'm going to be working alone. So, please be patient.

8. What happens to this blog?

We're still making some changes but I will start blogging soon and I think the blog will become more of an asset.

I hope that helps.

Wilson will never be the head coach for St. Paul!!

Ancich and Crawley blew out the Willigs last week. Several other coaches who do not subscribe to A's 80's era football will soon be gone.

With the kids that are leaving and with a bare cupboard it isn't out the realm of possibility for SP not to win a game for the next couple of years.

Well, Alumni, you got your wish and got your coach back.

But you've let your love for the man cloud your vision. He still has a great football mind but between him and his cronies they have turned a once proud and storied program into a joke.

Come the next releaguing we will be joining the likes of Cantwell, Bosco Tech and the like.

Anthony Wilson resigns and returns to St. Paul? I don't know anything about Mr. Wilson, so I respectfully ask can anyone give me some insight and history on this guy? Why did he leave? What about Coach Ancich and the Willigs at St. Paul????

If anyone has factual information, please, do tell.
