Del Rio League follower: I am becoming a Coach Mata fan. EVERYBODY LOVES A WINNER. INCLUDING ME. All I can suggest after this run of the basketball program (with such young, inexperienced players) is that Coach Mata is CHANGING ATTITUDES!! If he keeps winning, it may prove WHITTIER HAS ATHLETES. That is what I have been suggesting since I started blogging about one year ago.

Maybe it may change the Adminstrations ideas and they may stop listening to LONGO and company. Why do I mention LONGO? Because one of her friends gave her up on this blog

COME ON MURRAY: Maybe not since his first couple of years! I do not know. I do not follow basketball much. I just know the basics: La Serna and Coach Lowe have pretty much "conquered the Del Rio League" over the years, then do "nothing" in the playoffs.

I think I know enough to say that the Del Rio League is very weak in basketball for that reason.

Other sports (baseball and football is what I follow) have done pretty well in the playoffs lately.

Mazzota did not have to recruit him...Drake's good friend Elkington is the center at LH. Drake went to a few games and saw something special. Simple as that.

BFF: LH never really did win from within with that open enrollment in the Fullerton Unified SD. If you are correct then that is proof of recruiting.

Even so, Mazzotta and company took a well below average program and made it outstanding. "In the beginning" they did not have the athletes they have now, but vastly improved the program and won anyway.

Now with their history and recruiting, the present will continue into their future.

St. Paul family is happy of the players named, and that is the bottomline. These SP people are bitter of the season they had but real Swordsmen know that the Sword will get better in due time. But for the time being let us celebrate the rest of the community and stop bickering about the rest. St. Paul is better than that. From a real Swordsmen.

Thank you for 13 years of reporting the local Whittier Prep Sports News with Honesty and Integrity and most of all with that personal interest touch you have with the players and coaches !!!

You will definitely be missed by all !!!!! I know both of our boys will be both sad you are retiring but also Happy for you and the time you will be spending in retirement.

Ed is now playing in the KBL, after playing a year at BYU Hawaii and Ricky is still playing , once in awhile up at our local college.

I believe the all area players selected this season is a great list. We can't deny the the fact that La Mirada and La Habra had great seasons and obviously their players deserve the recognition. In 2007 when SP won their title the majority of the players were from SP. I want to congratulate all the players that earned All Area honors great job boys. Way to make Friday nights memorable to all of us fans. keep working hard and hopefully our area will have more titles to add to our list.

Truth boys, not sure if La Habra will gain anything from playing St.Paul. La Habra would rather schedule a Pac-5 power such as Los Al or San Clemente. Next season, 2010, they have Orange Lutheran, St. John Bosco and possibly another power(heck, they should just join the Trinity League...j/k). However, LH vs. SP would be an interesting game.

It's official!!! Coach Mazzotta did a heck of a job in recruiting Drake Griffin from St. Paul. I'm a buddy of his and they promised him the world over there. I thought these guys won from within. Not so impressed with LH any more.

the lie that RB Drake going to LH is totally false. the team we will have this year awesome! and maybe that's why the schools in the area still wont schedule us. fear is a killer for schools who hate to lose or fear strong competition. we have always separated the boys from the men!

RB Drake Griffin, St. Paul, Junior is by far the most talented Back, torres, jones are weak as water. Drake should of been first team. if you believe anything you'll better believe that!
