Championship Thursday

It seems like there are quite a few titles on the line today. I've listed a few here. Don't forget to go out and support the area teams.

Boys Basketball

La Habra (15-11, 7-2) at Sunny Hills (23-3, 8-1), 7:30 p.m.

The only team that's knocked off the Lancers this league season was the Highlanders, 46-44, on Jan. 22. If La Habra wins, it will likely force a three-way tie for the Freeway League title with Sonora (20-6, 7-2).

Girls Basketball

Cantwell (17-8, 5-2) at St. Monica (14-11, 3-3), 7 p.m.

Even though the Cardinals lost twice to St. Bernard (14-14, 6-2), they can still split the Camino Real League crown with a win against a solid St. Monica squad. Cantwell defeated St. Monica, 50-46, when they meet on Jan. 26.

Girls Soccer

California (14-8-2, 8-1) at La Serna (17-5-1, 9-0), 3:15 p.m.

While I believe the Condors have the talent to compete with the Lancers, I'm just not sure they have the confidence and swagger to do so. This year the talent gap has really narrowed between the teams. With that said, the Lancers made all the right moves in a 2-0 win on Feb. 1. This rivalry reminds me of La Mirada vs. Mayfair in girls soccer.

Girls Water Polo

La Serna (19-6, 4-0) at Whittier (8-12, 3-1), 3:15 p.m.

This is the make-up of Tuesday's game that was postponed because of lightning. While the Cardinals haven't had the best preseason, they still control their own destiny and can force a three-way split of the Del Rio League title should they upset La Serna. A Cardinals win would give El Rancho (18-9, 4-1) a share of the crown.

Boys Soccer

El Rancho (14-1-3, 6-1-1) at Santa Fe (7-6-2, 2-5-1), 3:15 p.m.

The Dons have already clinched a share of their fourth straight Del Rio League crown and can take the title outright with a win. After a strong preseason start, Santa Fe struggled in league. El Rancho bested Santa Fe 7-3 in the first meeting of the season.

La Mirada (18-0-4, 8-0-3) at Norwalk (13-3-2, 10-0-1), 3 p.m.

How frustrating must it be to be undefeated and still in second place in your own league? The Matadores can rectify the latter a forged a split of the Suburban League title with a win at Norwalk today. The teams tied in their first meeting, 0-0, on Jan. 22.
