Lynch Is Out at La Mirada

| | Comments (53) |

Breaking News - La Mirada High School football co-head coach Ollie Lynch has been fired from the program, effective last Friday.

The news of Lynch's dismissal was first reported on Tony Aiello's La Mirada blog on Sunday.

The 29-year-old was admittedly devastated but did not shed any light on the situation.

Lynch only confirmed that he was told "the program was going in another direction and that did not include him."

The La Mirada native will remain both as a business instructor and head track coach.

Lynch served La Mirada for six years, first as a defensive backs coach and wide receivers coach under Dave Rush.

This past season he was the defensive coordinator for the Matadores, who finished 13-1 and champions of the CIF-Southern Section Southern Division.

hey i thought this was an artical about the coach getting fired. i dont' remember anything in the artical about st.paul. personally the people leaving comments should leave comments about the coach get fired for no reason, i'm not a fan of either school but if you want to write about st. paul wait until a report comes out about them. as i see it its st.paul 1 la mirada 1 the past 2 years they played each other . i have had family go to both schools so before you jump all over me and say i don't know about the tradition of both schools i do. my cousin that went to st. paul won a championship in the 80's and my lil cousin won a championship this year at la mirada, so st. paul fans just relax your time will come for your team to be back on top again.

la mirada had a good season ill give them that, BUT i cant stand now how a bunch of people are jumping on the LM bandwagon. i had gone to a couple games before they were winning and the stands were dead. this season they even started an alumni section. before this season the powderpuff games had more in attendance and not to mention there was more hitting too... saint paul has had a couple down years in a row but things are looking up. they had a great freshman team last year and the JV team had a decent season. there are a couple kids who transfered over too. the team will be young, but it is full of talent.

He is (Moschetti) a little man and try to attend SP, oh yes he wanted to be a Swordsmen.

" get off brooks jock, good for moschetti that he is a great motivator! I still think that this will signal the end of their return to prominence!!! "

How hard is it to motivate a bunch of kids to beat a small school that is just above 8 man football. Wow they lost a kid to cancer, but your school wont move up RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!

St Paul said:

Say what!!!!......their return to prominence!!!
give all of us a break! 8 man football isn't prominence.

Before everyone attacks brooks, you should get the facts. Lynch is not the victim here. He has been a thorn in the program's side for two years. The staff wanted him gone and tried to let him resign or find another job. Sometimes you have to cut out the cancer.

real SP fan...... dont sucome to "aa" sport fan original, we are ST.PAUL!!!!! no one in the area can compete with a Swordsmen. who in the area can beat our baseball team? I dont play BB but my football buddy's and i are going to wreck havec this year.

"Real SP Fan"... I am going to apologize for the SP teacher joke I directed toward that SP Idiot.

I know there are some very good things going on over there at SP. Every school has its Idiots!!

Real SP Fan said:

To: sports fan original - Please excuse the comments of the 'Swordsmen' and 'SP' bloggers. They talk smack but have nothing to back it up. And it's obvious they represent a few bad apples in the SP apple cart. And it's always the bad apples that stink the most!
Ya, our FB program went 3-7 this season, and yes, one of the 7 was to LM (except the Frosh team that beat LM- I had to throw that in there), so no one at SP can strut and pound their chest over any other area FB program. Plus, since Coach A isn't going anywhere coupled with the Willig's getting kicked out, I question the future of the FB program.
But regardless, I still bleed blue and white and hope for the best. Good luck LM, hopefully things work out for your FB program. Go Swordsmen!

Typical St. Paul response. Just making the program sink to a lower level than they are in right now. (shaking my head) What a Moron

Who is Mushetti? LOL

sports fan original said:

WOW: Brooks may be a jerk but he is smart enough to know that if he fires Mushetti, the program will return to the Rush days. Brooks cannot hold Mushetti's jock. And La Mirada is going to the finals again this coming year.
The word is that Mushetti, along with all of his playing and coaching experience (at Mt Sac and Colorado) is a master motivator and the players have huge respect for him. And he is smart enough to hire the best possible assistants he can. No worry of interference or ego. Just give the kids the best coaching he can. And boy, LM has brought them back.

Brooks has had La Habra like football talent on his baseball teams to carry him through the years. Only one team has gone far though over the past 10 or so years. Not that he was well liked. I heard players did not respect him, but they won despite it all. No substitute for talent!

Brook's used Mr. Lynch. He new what he was doing all along. Brooks' face suggests his character. Not a well liked guy by many!! Why would an Athletic Director hire Lynch when Mushetti wanted the position? No comparison in playing experience or coaching experience. Lynch's offenses under Rush did the opposite of "light up" the scoreboard.

I suggest a reason: they needed someone on campus also. And this AD did his "dirty work" at Coach Lynch's expense. It appears Brooks may be a "power monkey" and the principal is no better for playing games with good people's lives.

Is Ponce De Leon coming back?

LM always has the talent to win. Make a coaching change, drop them into a weaker division and see what happens.

and SWORDSMAN; They beat you up and you St. Paul players are still not smart enough to keep your mouth shut. They will beat you again this year. Does that mean St. Paul will drop to 6 man football?
No intelligence at all, Swordsman!

Sports Fan Original said:

Mushetti has always been the Head Coach; from Day number 1. lynch was on staff at the time and they needed to hire an on campus guy also.
Brookes' baseball team has not done much in the playoffs since that superior team of great players three years ago. Maybe he needed a POWER PLAY.
The team will be just as good next season.

Some one tell me. How Carl Perez is playing baseball at La Mirada. "Brooks"....

Swordsmen said:

well LM Manny this is truely how your low rent school deals with winning the 8-man football championship. LM starts by cutting any one close to the team that won the 8-man championship. Is it me or are you guys falling apart?

WOW! said:

I heard the rumor the week after the CIF championship game that he was going to get fired because Brooks wants to be the co-head coach with Moschetti, next up to get fired is going to be Moschetti mark my words if LM doesnt do well this year Brooks will find a lame reason to fire Moschetti. Either way it was a bad move by Brooks, he fires a local guy who helped reestablish the program........ Shame on the Administration for letting it happen, they let the Boys Basketball team do whatever it wants in Vegas and NO coaches get fired! But a good coach gets canned because of Brooks ego!

There is only one direction from the top! That can't be the real reason, there must be more behind this!

Football: One Team + Two Coaches = 13-1
Mike Moschetti and Ollie Lynch guide La Mirada to CIF-SS Southern Division championship
By Robert Morales, Staff Writer
Posted: 02/13/2010 11:07:12 PM PST

La Mirada High went 4-7 during the 2008 football season, the first headed by co-coaches Mike Moschetti and Ollie Lynch.

The difference one year made was a 13-1 campaign in 2009 and the CIF Southern Section Southern Division championship.

For the incredible turnaround they directed, Moschetti and Lynch have been named the Dream Team co-Coaches of the Year.

The Matadores won four playoff games by a combined score of 160-54. Included was a 49-27 victory over Garden Grove in the title game on Dec. 11 at Orange Coast College.

"We fought our (rear) off to get that win," said Moschetti, whose team was down, 21-14, at halftime then outscored the Argonauts 35-6 in the second half.

La Mirada finished 2008 by winning its last three Suburban League games and making the playoffs, losing to Corona Del Mar in the first round. But the groundwork had been set for 2009.

"The day after the (2008) season they were in the weight room," Lynch said. "Their dedication made us very optimistic going into the season. The leadership this year was really the biggest difference on the team.

"The seniors we had were very strong as fast as their personalities on and off the field, making sure our team was focused. Our kids never lost focus of what our goal was and that was winning the CIF championship."

Moschetti was the quarterback for La Mirada's only other football title in 1992. He played collegiately at Colorado.

Lynch played his high school football in Northern California. He then played at Whittier College and was an assistant coach for the Poets for two years after his playing days.
Together, along with the rest of the coaching staff, they are one happy and pomposity-free family. Co-head coaches may not work all the time at other programs, but it's all good at La Mirada.

"Nobody cares about the credit," Moschetti said. "There is not a lot of ego. We have not had a problem in two years."

Wow, 13 & 1 with a CIF title and your going to break that up? Something's fishy in Matador country.

This is another ploy by the ad brooks to get the people in there that he can bully around basically "yes men". He fired coach rush because he wanted to hire the other co-head coach and brooks came on as a defensive coach hmmmmmm, another pay check for him along with his teaching,ad and varsity baseball head coaching.Coach Lynch was as very good coach and a great communicator to the players. This isn't the first time that Brooks has done it, he hired his niece to take over the girls basketball program and she has no experience but supposedly coach at cerritos college but there is no record of her doing that and we just saw how well there season went. He past up canidates that were more qualified that her. He should be fired, this will backfire on them Coach Lynch will find a a new team and I hope he will have success.

come on, they all should be fired!!!!
