Fear the Cardinals???

| | Comments (24) |

In case anyone hasn't been paying attention to the first two games of Del Rio League baseball play, one team has definitely stood out.

It's not California....or La Serna....or even El Rancho

It's Whittier!

How bout dem Cardinals. Whittier opened with an impressive 2-0 win over co-league champion California on Friday behind a three-hit shutout from starter Andrew Gomez.

The Cardinals followed up that effort by rallying from a 7-0 hole in defeating other co-league champion La Serna, 10-9, on Wednesday.

The Lancers even led 9-3 by the middle of the fifth before Whittier erupted for seven runs in the bottom half of the inning in taking the game.

I know it's only two games into league and no time to start crowning champions. However, the accomplishment can't go overlooked.

Whittier was 1-5 versus the duo last year and has not won more than two games versus each in over five years. In fact, the last time Whittier beat both California and La Serna in the same season was the 04-05 season.

Not too bad.

Get your facts straight. It wasn't because of anger but because their actions caused the demotion. No anger issues here. In fact, smart coaching. He is doing his job. Not one player is above the rules. And if you think you are "it" then let your game play and check your attitude at the door. Those "brats" should look in the mirror and see that there is not one to blame but themselves. And by the way, they are V talent playing JV kids thats why the stats are inflated. get a clue!

i think LS played below their potential against whittier, next time around it should be interesting.

The new coach seems to make choices on anger insted of logic, they will be short handed this year beacuse two players he sent down to JV.
Adam Jimenez who is curently 10 for 14 in the past 5 games. (P,3b,2b,1b)
And Nicholas Vaca who is hitting 8 for 14...
(P,2b,3b)
Not very smart on the coaches part.
its gunna be a intresting year for the red and white.
Not only will they be short handed by these players gone, but also his over use of pitchers.

thanks, for the jinx. this is what blew it against santa fe.

Well lets see how Whittier deals with defeat. If they can deal with it they will be competitive. Also, they will need a good number two pitcher. Great first two games but lost a lead this time

FEAR THE CARDINALS??? How about fear coach Perez! This poor kid Gomez, man...His arm is going to fall off!!! Nice job coach.

Definitely an interesting start to league.

Long way to go though. The hardest thing is to beat a team three times in league.

Hopefully it stays competitive. Its a lot more fun that way.
