La Mirada Looks for 1st Title

| | Comments (6) |

We're about two hours away from the start of the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 boys soccer finals between No. 5 La Mirada (23-0-4) and No. 1-seeded Corona Del Mar (23-1-1) at 7 p.m. at Mission Viejo High School.

I'll post score-by-score updates and halftime and final scores here.

There are a couple of different advances online for those who are interested.

Here's the WDN's preview -

Here's the OC Register's preview -

Corona Del Mar Preview

How about the closing couple of lines of the OC's preview.

"Has La Mirada really been tested in the playoffs? I don't think so."

Wow! Obviously, The Register hasn't seen La Mirada play.

First Update: It's tied 0-0 after 20 minutes. La Mirada had a golden look in the 16th minute when senior halfback Daniel Ruvalcaba fired high from 10 yards.

CDM had its best opportunity snuffed out on a diving save by goalie Josue Quintanilla of a point-blank shot from Paul Zubatov in the 19th minute.

Second Update: It's tied 0-0 at the half. While La Mirada has performed well on the ground, CDM's air attack has been very dangerous. The Sea Kings have outshot the Matadores 10-5.

Third Update: The final score is 2-0 in favor of Corona Del Mar. The Sea Kings scored in the 67th minute on a scramble in front of the net that was knocked in by Ali Sadri.

UCLA-bound Reed Williams scored a 15-yarder in the 78th minute to seal the match.

Despite the score, congratulations to the La Mirada High School boys soccer team on a tremendous season, one of the best this reporter has witnessed.

Editor's Note: There will be a full story in Saturday's paper.

Quite interesting article. Your own web page is rather quickly growing to be considered one of my favorite features.
