Let's Start the Debate -- Area's Best Baseball League
I know this is an issue with bloggers and it was an issue when I worked on the preview and even afterward.
So, here's the question -
What's the area's best baseball league?
Let's just say I got into passionate "conversations" with two Del Rio League coaches over this question.
Now, here's my ranking of our area leagues.
1. Freeway (Teams: Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra, Sonora, Sunny Hills, Troy)
Area's best league from top to bottom. The top three teams here could compete for league crowns in any other area league.
2. Del Rio (Teams: California, El Rancho, La Serna, Pioneer, Santa Fe, Whittier)
Area's most competitive league continues to grow.
3. Del Rey (Teams: Bishop Amat, Bishop Montgomery, Cantwell Sacred Heart, La Salle, St. Paul)
The league needs La Salle to be strong again, otherwise it's just Amat and St. Paul.
4. Olympic League (Teams: Campbell Hall, Cerritos Valley Christian, L.A. Baptist, Montclair Prep, Whittier Christian)
Normally an underrated league, the Olympic League is really green this year. In other years, it may be higher up on this list. Whittier Christian is likely the league favorite this year.
5. Suburban (Teams: Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, John Glenn, La Mirada, Mayfair, Norwalk)
While La Mirada and Mayfair are tough, the league is Niagara Falls after that. It would help if Bellflower was strong again.
6. Almont (Teams: Alhambra, Bell Gardens, Mark Keppel, Montebello, San Gabriel, Schurr)
I know the league is dismissed by many locals but it's not a bad league, especially if Schurr is up. You know Montebello and Bell Gardens will be in the mix. The two problems are Keppel and San Gabriel and the fact that Alhambra has won five straight titles.

There's apparently a bunch to know about this. I would like to many thanks for that efforts you've complete in #writing this# nice post. I am hoping the same greatest work from you sometime soon as well.Google Sniper
This is a good, common sense article.Very helpful to one who is just finding the resouces about this part.It will certainly help educate me.
Anonymous: You are so wrong. You still have not even listed one example of hate of local student/ athletes that I have blogged. Because you cannot. Yet you still accuse. You are tired. None has listed even one example.
And this "hate" thing, have you lived it? Are you on the rebound? You have also accused me of other stupid stuff. Are you an ex-alcoholic or substance abuser because you seem to know plenty about the symptoms? Have you ever heard "it takes one to know one?"
Or are you Mrs. L_ _ _ _ or her friends and have a different form of addiction? E a _ _ _ _?
Sports Fan Original---
So you are saying you don't like it when select SP get on here and bash and put down other teams. Like SP posters are the only ones that do that?
Can't have it both ways...if you are going to be a hater...be consistent and be an equal opportunity hater. LOL!
By the way, I think you must of missed taking your neds the last couple of days. You are all over the place.
nothing to do with hate. as I said a couple of weeks ago, I love student athletes. I do hate it when st. paul people get on here and put down everyone else. During football season a couple of times they even suggested they could beat La Habra. Come on!! Then they lost to LM and they continue to put them down.
Baseball has been on these blogs for two or so weeks now and you did not hear a negative thing from me. But after the same old _ _ _ _ , I must put them in their place.
You do not see La Mirada Football guys or La Habra Football guys on here putting other teams down. And they are both CIF Champions, as St Paul Football was a few years ago and as St Paul baseball almost was a couple years ago. Those bloggers show class. They just "WIN BIG" and do not brag about it. They know the ACTION SPEAKS philosophy.
Just read the blogs. No, more important, comprehend the negative comments toward other teams, which are made up of player. Players are people. Can you not see it?
Well it would be nice if that was true, but St.Paul has enough talent to go against anyone. It's not cockiness, it's just confidence. Especially with the talent they have this year. Also i dout they would lose in the first round of D.2 baseball... That's totally dumb for you to say. St.Paul is playin D.1 teams right now and giving them a run for their money. They aren't getting smacked around. Yeah, capo valley gave them a good kicking but that was without pitching, they didn't throw anyone against them. I guarantee you if Willson or Encinas pitched that game, they would've either loss by one or 2 or came out with a win. It's just that easy for these guys. SP is the dominate force in the area in baseball this year. Next year i dont know, but thats a long way from now.
So just stop hating already.
1 fan....ok I will.....that one player got very little help versus the good teams they played last year(BA for example). Yes, it is a team game. But great piching has always been the most important aspect of baseball. Why? Great pitching stops great hitting.
If swordsman, st. paul, or other st. paul bloggers write that they are better than all of the other schools, then I come back with the truth, the way I see it. Plenty of the "cockiness" may come from the success in Division V the finals one year. Then they drop one division.. to 1V and win two games. As far as I am concerned if they drop another 2 divisions to D2, I believe it is quite possible they would lose in the first round.
That would not make them the best team around!! Do you understand the jumps in class? Ever been to the horse races? 10,000 dollar horses have a very hard time going up against 30,000 dollar horses. Seldom do they win.
What are you going to come up with now?
It's a team sport buddy!! If he pitched then that is awesome. Also did he hit 3 solo homeruns or did his teammates help out? Your a moron SFO!! I fail to understand your point ? Please educate me.
1 fan: got a grip! Did that one player pitch??? Yes or no??? Who mentioned the "end of the world?"
Are YOU taking it too seriously???? This is some fun for me.
St. paul beat Mater Dei 3-0 yesterday. Great Game!! Sports Fan Original your a tool my man. Get a grip it's high school baseball not the end of the world.
it's funny how everyone in the Del Rio league likes to talk about St.Paul like they're not good or something... Havn't they swept your league the past three or four years when your teams tried to play them. They'd do it again to if anyone of your teams would try to play them!
SFO....you really got knock off the boozin' before you post.
Hands down, El Rancho has been the best program in the DRL this decade...
St. Paul == Division 1V == quarterfinals == good === which MAY figure == to you losing in first round in Division 2.
You are no where near as good as you think. Well you are close when that 1 PLAYER PITCHES. BUT YOU DO NOT HIT FOR HIM. HE CARRIES YOU!!!! He could of beat Amat, but had no help 3 TIMES!!
I get so tired of hearing about St. Paul this and St. Paul that. The fact of the matter is that they are not clutch. Go ahead and beat up on Cantwell all you want. When it comes to a big game they crumble under the pressure (though I admit Northview was a big W last year). They lost to Kaiser last year in the playoffs. A team whose coach disciplined many of their starters for going out the night before on their grad night to disneyland. Kids get home around 2am and still come out and beat them.
Freeway is a tough league this year. Like a previous poster said, it varies from year to year. Del Rey is a two team race as is the suburban league. The Del Rio league is competitive every year. Scrappy teams with pretty good coaches at some schools (Cal, El Rancho). Del Rio teams would scrap with any team in the area and more times than not would come out on top.
Why do we receive all the talent? The Whittier schools suck, Cal, La Serna give me a break sorry/sorry/sorry!
What I said in another thread goes for this one too.
Swordsmen posters....if you are going to come on here and rip on the other teams, at least learn how to spell and put a sentence together.
Can you guys also learn how to use a comma on occasion? Reading your posts are painful enough knowing that some of this drivel is coming out of a purported Swordmen. At least make it easier for us to decipher what you are trying to say!
A True Swordsmen
Its got to be the private schools, that’s why kids hate going to public schools they have no game.
Del Rey has the best league teams atop. Those two team will wipe off any of the other top leagues in their respected leagues. PERIOD
League's talent is up or down based on graduation every year. The freeway league is up this year because of Sonora and Fullerton. Next year they will both be down because their players are seniors, Pitchers. La Habra was pretty good last year, this year they are down (0-2). Open enrollment allows La Habra to be good in football and Sonora in baseball.
Bishop Amat is always good because of a reputation of getting their players to the next level. St Paul has the best team in the area if they can hit? Next year, they will be down. Cantwell got killed by El Rancho.
La Mirada is usually good but again will be down next year as well.
The Del Rio league has some good players and teams. Last year, Cal was young and got better throughout the year as La Serna will do this year. With 5 or 6 players in the big leagues from the Del Rio league, you can't say it isn't a good league. There are several players from that league that are still playing in college and doing well. In conclusion, any given year?
I'm with you on the Freeway being #1. Sonora and Fullerton are very good and La Habra has the potential to be very good.
I'd put the Del Rey #2. Yes, it is just Bishop Amat and St. Paul but those two alone are better than the top 2 in the DRL, Cal Hi and La Serna. Amat is the real deal and while the SP haters will disagree with me, St. Paul has a very good team even though their record indicates otherwise.
