Possible Football Changes -- Del Rio/Suburban

| | Comments (14) |

As most of you know, the CIF-SS office released a proposal for possible releaguing for all sports. To be honest, I'd prefer not to discuss the possibilities until something is final. However, many of you have expressed an interest in talking about it.

So, here's the info.

Let's start with the Del Rio League and Suburban League.

The Del Rio League (California, El Rancho, La Serna, Pioneer, Santa Fe, Whittier) stays in the Southeast Division and will be joined by the Suburban League, led by defending Southern Division Champion La Mirada.

The other leagues in the division include the new Hacienda League (Bonita, Diamond Bar, Diamond Ranch, Los Altos, Rowland, Walnut, and West Covina) and the Pacific League (Burbank, Burbank Burroughs, Crescenta Valley, Pasadena, Muir, Arcadia, Glendale Hoover and Glendale).

Thoughts: This is pretty exciting because the DRL can rival a Hacienda League that does not include South Hills or Charter Oak. Look at the Hacienda League. It's formidable but beatable as is evidenced by El Rancho's win over West Covina and Santa Fe's defeat of Bonita last year. The more interesting league is the Pacific League, which boasts arguably the most talented team in the division year in and year out in John Muir of Pasadena.

As for La Mirada, there's no rest for the champs, who dropped three divisions two years ago. Can La Mirada win this division? Yes. But having to go through California or Muir or West Covina in subsequent rounds of the playoffs will be a step up in class from the Southern Division, which only had two difficult playoff rounds.

But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two images. Maybe you could space it out better?

With John Muir in the division, it will be difficult for anyone to win the whole thing (CIF). We DRL or SBl can't compete with them.

Del Rio and Suburban makes sense together. Almont always deserved to be with other SGV leagues both athletically and geographically. Not so sure Pacific Leagues should be here, not a lot of history with the other schools. The Del Rio has had some good games with Suburban schools over the years

This is great news for the DRL and the rest of the leagues mention. Everything is close by; saving on the transportation fees for school, family, moreover the fan base won’t have to travel far on Friday night. Competing against the likes of John Muir is very exciting, tremendous history in addition always great athletes.

Campa, I know the talk is all about football right now, but with the possible re-leaguing, how will girls soccer be effected? Rumors are circulating that the Del Rio League could be moved down from D-4 to D-5.
