Possible Football Changes -- Mission/Del Rey/Freeway
The area's last three football changes take place with the Mission League, Freeway League and Del Rey League.
The Mission League remained in the Western Division although there are several changes.
First, the league is different as heavyweight Alemany attempts to adjust to playing in the Serra League (good luck!). With its departure, three tough teams enter in the mix in Cathedral, Harvard-Westlake and Serra. They join Chaminade, St. Francis and St. Paul.
The Western Division consists of the Channel League (Buena, Dos Pueblos, San Marcos, Santa Barbara, Ventura), Ocean League (Beverly Hills, Culver City, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Morningside, Santa Monica), the Pacific View League (Camarillo, Channel Islands, Hueneme, Oxnard, Oxnard Pacifica, Rio Mesa), the Pac-7 League (Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, Paso Robles, Pioneer Valley, Righetti, San Luis Obispo, St. Joseph's/Santa Maria) and the San Gabriel Valley League (Compton Dominguez, Downey, Gahr, Lynwood, Paramount, Warren).
Thoughts: Yikes! First off, it's going to be hard for St. Paul to qualify for a playoff spot next season. I'm not sure who the Swordsmen can beat in league. Harvard-Westlake? Cathedral?
And St. Paul's reward, should it reach the postseason, is a possible road game in San Luis Obispo or Oxnard or Santa Barbara. I think that's called a double whammy.
As for La Habra, which competes in the Freeway League, the champs stay in the Southwest Division that now includes the Century League (Brea Olinda, Anaheim Canyon, El Dorado, El Modena, Esperanza, Foothill and Villa Park), the Empire League (Cypress, Kennedy, Garden Grove Pacifica, Tustin, Placentia Valencia, Western, Yorba Linda) and the Sea View League (TBA).
Thoughts: It will be interesting to see how the Highlanders do without Josh Quezada? He was a huge portion of their offense.
I know this may sound cocky but I don't think anyone in this division intimidates La Habra. Coach Frank Mazzotta has built a monster that's only vulnerable if it allows itself to be with mistakes.
With the elimination of the Camino Real League, Cantwell Sacred Heart now moves into the Del Rey League with Bishop Montgomery, Don Bosco Tech, La Salle, Mary Star of the Sea, St. Bernard and Verbum Dei.
The Del Rey League will compete in the Northwest Division with the Los Padres League (Lompoc Cabrillo, Lompoc, Morro Bay, Nipomo, Santa Maria, Santa Ynez, Templeton), the Pioneer League (Compton Centennial, El Segundo, Lawndale, North Torrance, South Torrance, Torrance) and the Tri-Valley League (TBA).
Thoughts: Not much changes for Cantwell, which has regularly played all of its new league opponents over the last few years. The Cardinals would seem to be a contender with Verbum Dei probably being the top team.
As for the division, I hate to say it, both nothing changes either. Every year it seems like Cantwell has to make a two- or three-hour ride northwest in the playoffs and that probably won't change with the Tri-Valley and Los Padres Leagues in the same division.

i have to agree, this football season is gonna be tough for us to say the lease. the only game we can win is la Miranda after that, its all up hill. making the payoff is hard enough but winning league even harder. all at the same time trying to pass the rains to our new head coach, Wilson, wow.
Man! SP can't win, there's no way we can compete with these schools. If we make the playoffs, we got to go so far, it will be like a family vacation for everyone who has a kid on the team.

I don't buy that small lower latino Catholic School crap you are trying to pass off as an excuse. We have never had the talent level other schools get but we make do with what we have.
With the coaches we have now....forget it about it. We are doomed from the the beginning. Last year gave us a glimpse of that.
As far as the Old Coach (as you call him) bringing in money, he's not bringing in the money you think. And what he does bring in is being used in all the wrong places.

All I can say is WOW! Talk about a step down for competition for La Serna and California. No more Bishop Amat, Sultana, Granite Hills or Los Altos to go up against. Those teams are all moving to D-3. What surprised me the most about the realignment is the fact that Whittier Christian's league, Olympic, is now in D-4.
There are still some very good teams in these leagues that the Del Rio League are familiar with, such as:
Cajon
Pacifica/Oxnard
Cabrillo/Lompoc
Santa Maria
Santa Ynez
Some other teams worth noting are teams like Downey and Malibu.
Campa, the Sea View League will comprised of Aliso Niguel, San Juan Hills, Capistrano Valley, Laguna Hills and El Toro...makiing it a five team league and part of the South Coast Conference.
You have Garden Grove listed in the Empire League. That is a mistake. It is Foothill instead.
What happened to the Palmdale and the quartz hill league? Where did they go?
