It's Officially On! The Area's Baseball Heavyweight Fight!
St. Paul's 5-0 win over Simi Valley and La Mirada's 15-1 victory over Santa Fe in Wednesday's semifinals of the St. Paul Easter Tournament sets up the area's dream match in Thursday afternoon's tournament championship game.

Matadores Arizona-bound ace Daniel Poncedeleon
The tournament championship game pits the heated area rivals, who started the season ranked No. 1 and 2 in the area's preseason poll. Both coaches confirmed that their respected aces will start.
Here's La Mirada skipper Kim Brooks' response to the game.
"We don't have to get ready for St. Paul. I don't have to say a word. It's St. Paul - it's a rivalry. They're going to have their guy going and we're going to have Daniel going and we're going to have some fun. This is what high school athletics are all about. You have two teams that are 10 minutes away from each other. Everybody knows everybody and everybody has an opinion. This is what's great."
Here's St. Paul skipper Casey Morales' response to the game.
"We're two pretty similar teams that have high expectations this season. We both didn't have the starts we would have liked and have been playing well lately. It's a good matchup and we look forward to playing La Mirada. They have a good pitcher but so do we. We think we can win every time Gabe pitches and we've played a really tough schedule. So, I don't anticipate what we'll see (Thursday) from La Mirada will be any different or worse than what we've already seen this year from Esperanza, Capistrano Valley and those teams. We're ready."
I picked St. Paul No. 1 and La Mirada No. 2 to start the season. La Mirada is currently top-ranked in this paper's latest poll and St. Paul is No. 3. The Matadores have won seven straight while the Swordsmen have won 4 of 5.

Nice job La Mirada loud mouth parents. You motivated your players to get one hard earned hit. LOL you guys are truely classless. Yelling directly at players was comedy yet so wrong.
La Mirada parents ran their mouth the whole game, then they ran south to the border pretty dam fast, they did not even see their team receive their second place award, classless.
What I can’t understand is parents pay tuition, that means (hard earn) money (SP people) to attend that school. The school looks so south of the border and in need of a lot of help. La Mirada is king of the area.
