The Girls East Team Takes the All-Star Classic
The 6th annual Sargent's Sporting Goods East vs. West All-Star girls basketball game at Whittier College was a pretty entertaining affair won by the East side 68-65.
The East side was led by East MVP Alexis Love of Norwalk High School. The senior didn't actually have a Norwalk jersey and had to borrow a Whittier Christian jersey with her #35.
She finished with 16 points and five in blocks in the winning effort. Just announced Daily News Player of the Year -- Whittier's Loren Gurrola -- finished with a game-high 18 points.
The West side actually led by double digits early thanks to the hot shooting of St. Paul's Angela Van Sickel, who hit three 3-pointers in the opening three minutes.
Van Sickel scored 16 points and was named the West side MVP. Santa Fe's Jessica Romero was the West's second-leading scorer with 12 points.
