Congratulations to the Whittier Christian High School softball team, which defeated San Marino 1-0 in Thursday afternoon's CIF-Southern Section Division 5 quarterfinals.

With the win, Whittier Christian advances to Tuesday's divisional semifinal at home against heated Olympic League rival Village Christian of Sun Valley.

Both teams split the season series, winning at each other's home.

Whittier Christian has won eighth straight postseason games.

As for the game, Whittier Christian scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth on a squeeze by Kat Martene that scored Danelle Zapien with one out.

Heralds pitcher Courtney McGee (13 k's) tossed her second no-hitter of the postseason in outdueling San Marino's Michelle Floyd (10 k's and five hits allowed).
