A couple of coaching changes have recently been made while another rumor was denied at Santa Fe, St. Paul and Whittier Christian high schools.
A well-trusted Santa Fe High School source confirmed two-year softball coach Kim Ensey is out and is being replaced by Randi Berg, a Chiefs alumnus.
Berg starred at Fresno State and coached at El Camino College, one of several stops for the 35-year-old veteran.
Berg is part of a Santa Fe lineage that includes her father Harvey, brothers Greg and Geoff and twin sister Laura Berg (of Team USA lore).
Ensey stepped aside after taking an assistant coaching position at Orange Coast College.
Baseball coach Arlie Kearney confirmed he's left Whittier Christian and taken the same position at Western of Anaheim.
Kearney said the move was mostly financial, as he has a four-month old daughter and "has to do what was best for his family."
Kearney will teach full-time at Western, which is about a block away from where the California High alumnus lives.
Kearney admitted the decision to leave Whittier Christian "was difficult because of his love of the program, coaches and kids."
With several returners coming back, the program shouldn't have a problem finding a replacement.
St. Paul athletic director Casey Morales denied that softball coach Craig Worthington has left the program, despite persistent and pesky rumors from parents.
Morales responded to an inquiry by the paper, saying Worthington has not contacted him about any changes and "that if there was one person who knew he was leaving, it would be (the athletic director)."
