July 2010 Archives
Like the majority of area high school football teams, this blog is heading into dead period for a while.
I normally don't post my articles on here but I realize we've been having some online issues with stories. Here's my football notebook that ran in today's paper.
There have been a few calls for a WDN preseason top 5 or 10. Before I post one, here's how the high school football website calpreps.com ranks the area.
As far as I'm aware, there are seven local football players who have verbally committed to Division 1 schools and another 2-3 that have considerations (i.e. mulling over offers).
Rivals.com recently ranked three of those talents in the state top 100. Here they are.
Here's the latest installment of "Your Questions." There weren't many questions this time around. If you have any questions, this is the place to do so.
It's tragic when a community has to deal with the death of anyone, youth or adult, before their time.
Over the last month, this small Whittier football community has suffered through three deaths, two in the last week alone. Please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers.
Over the last few days, we've heard about the possibility of a prolonged economic downturn.
That got me thinking about area football.
Last week, La Mirada High School's Daniel Poncedeleon and California's Brittany Delgado were selected the WDN Players of the Year.
Former Santa Fe and St. Paul High School and Cerritos College standout David Flores announced at Saturday's 10th annual Santa Fe High School Tournament of Champions that he will be signing his collegiate letter of intent this weekend with Division II Midwestern State University of Wichita Falls, Texas.
Santa Fe High School's near eight-hour long, 32-team Tournament of Champions came to end this afternoon with plenty of results.
I recently attended a Cantwell Sacred Heart passing league and walked away with a few impressions.
As many of you already know, the 10th annual Santa Fe Tournament of Champions and Young Guns Passing Tournament kicks off tomorrow morning at 9. This is one the largest spectacles and is a must-see.
BREAKING NEWS: A La Habra football coach confirmed that senior quarterback Cody Clements has just verbally committed to Washington State.
The paper recently published the Del Rio League Spring honors. Here they are in case anyone missed them.
The paper recently published the Almont League Spring honors. Here they are in case anyone missed them.
I've had the chance to visit a few camps and will be posting some tidbits on the blog over the next few weeks. Please don't forget to read the paper as some of these notes have already been published. Today, I'll start with the defending Del Rio League champion California Condors.
Here's the latest installment of "Your Questions". I tried to answer as many as possible. If you have a burning and relevant question to ask - this is the place to do so.
While most of us have the day off, some are working.
Don't forget to mark your calendars for next weekend's Santa Fe High School Tournament of Champions Football competition.
La Mirada High junior Bryan Peters spoke with the paper on Thursday and confirmed he recently verbally committed to the University of Kansas.
Today's print edition includes this year's Daily News boys volleyball Player and Coach of the Year along with the first and second teams.
I was a bit tardy in posting this year's Daily News swim Players and Coaches of the Year along with the first and second teams.
