The Lions Club Picks Santa Fe

| | Comments (12) |

The Whittier Lions Club, the second largest Lions affiliation in California, just concluded its second annual Del Rio League football dinner at the Radison and released the results of its Lions Del Rio League coaches poll.

The six Del Rio League coaches (with Andy Theisen filling in for an absent Jack Mahlstede) believe through their votes that Santa Fe will win the league crown this year...sort of

Three teams each received two first-place votes. Those teams were Santa Fe, La Serna and California.

Santa Fe barely nipped La Serna and California in points. El Rancho finished fourth, Whittier fifth and Pioneer sixth. But it was a pretty close ballet.

Here's the scoring:

1. Santa Fe - 8 points (2 first place votes)

2. La Serna - 10 points (2 first place votes)

3. California - 12 points (2 first place votes)

4. El Rancho - 16 points

5. Whittier - 21 points

6. Pioneer - 23 points

I'll be honest, the results of this poll are not too different than the paper's Del Rio League prediction, which will come out on this blog next week. We're looking at one of the most competitive, parity-driven league races in quite some time. It should be fun to see who comes out on top. I'll post more about the dinner in an upcoming blog.

Was at the event last night. Each coach has a different way round themselves. The crowd over 200 was into what which each coach had to say. Words of wisdom, hard work, and character about their programs were evident.

Now, it's 5 to see what we have, 5 to earn city bragging rights and.... those whom make it, see what outside the Del Rio looks like? Did a mention 1 or 2 in the post season....

Let High School Football began...."Honey I'll be late getting home on Friday night".
