Daily News Week 1 Ranking
There has certainly been a shuffle in the order of the Daily News Top 5 rankings. Here are the rankings.
1. La Habra (0-1, unchanged from #1)
We'll give the Highlanders a break after falling to Division 1 Orange Lutheran last Friday. In all honesty, they probably should have won. But you know the old saying, would of could of should of...
2. La Serna (1-0, up from #3)
I have to give the Lancers their due. Calpreps, myself and staff writer Eric Terrazas all thought the distance, jitters and home cooking would serve Bonita Vista well. Apparently, the Lancers travel well.
3. St. Paul (1-0, up from #5)
There was a certain unmistakable confidence and self-belief before last Friday's game with La Mirada. You could see it in the face of defensive coordinator Rich Avina Jr., linebackers coach Anthony Wilson and on the player's faces. The Swordsmen and coach Marijon Ancich knew something many of us didn't know - that they wouldn't be denied. Kudos to them.
4. Santa Fe (0-0, unchanged from #4)
I remember how much the Santa Fe contingent was irked by St. Paul's last appearance at the Santa Fe Football Tournament of Champions in 2007 (I believe the year is correct). Several coaches and parents weren't happy with the boisterous and colorful vernacular of St. Paul defensive coach Gil Jimenez. I wonder if the new Warren coach has changed? (Don't count on it). The Chiefs will find out Friday.
5. El Rancho (1-0, up from #9)
I'm not sure what's more amazing. The Dons' 41-point beat down of once-powerful Los Altos or the fact they did it missing five regulars, some of whom were lost to grades. I hope the kids and coach Zepeda can turn this around before it costs them in league. While a lot of talk centered on the offense, the defense played great.

Kudos to you! This is a really good blog here and I love your style of writing. How did you get so good at blogging?
I believe your weblog is nice! I found it on Bing today. I believe I will come back on day, thank you.
Nice blog subject. thanks for letting me add something!
W jaki sposób to robisz? Z góry dziękuję za oddźwięk na Twoim blogu. BTW: ogromnie wciągający artykuł :)
Open your eyes now. I will. One moment. Has all vanished since? If I
I love the expression. Everyone needs to express there own opinion and feel free to hear others. Keep it up :)

You represent grace and dignity … with a smile that melts anyone blessed to be on the receiving end of it. God Bless you Always, Carrie!!!!
Campa...whats up? El Rancho above La Mirada? Come on! It is obvious you definitely (not possibly) believe LM's championships were a fluke!!
They beat Mayfair for the first time in a very long time (granted Mayfair is consistently not the power they once were 5, 6, 7, years ago and longer), they beat a very good Norwalk club, and they have a lot of players back. And you pick ER above them. They also beat a "not ready yet" Cal team last year which has dominated El Rancho!
When is the last time ER has won a playoff game? Or, even finished in the top two in the Del Rio League? 6 or 7 years or more? LM lost to a good, and well coached fired up ballclub with a lot to prove.
I do not even comprehend how you could rate them above Cal, a powerhouse of late, coached by a very good group of coaches (analysis made by the win loss record, championships, and success in CIF during their 3 or 4 year direction).
El Rancho, who I respect, beat a Los Altos club that has not done a thing since the loss of a very quality coach. They are not getting the players they used to get, as you must win a little or they will go elsewhere. That is the way it is these days with the freedom kids have.
If they are "for real" I will really complement you on your scientific analysis. If so, you should spend some time in Vegas, picking teams and making lots of $$!! But as of right now, I think your picking them #5 is totally non-scientific.
Soooo ER is better than LM because they beat a once storied, on the down Los Altos?
Not sure that La Mirada should have been knocked out of Top 5.
Andrew,
It's "would've, could've, should've."
Come on now.
ER is just taking one game at a time, the focus is on Northview this friday night. If all goes well the first true test is in Week 2 vs Bell Gardens. Campa is correct, we are missing 5 players who will make an impact this season.
el rancho did great but moving them up from 9 to 5 i dont know about that just yet
