Give the L.A. Times it's Due

Too often the L.A. Times get bashed for its lack of local coverage of high school sports (I'll admit I do it often) and in particular how it often neglects or forgets the area.

However, I'll give the Times credit for recognizing some of our players and teams the last couple of weeks.

For instance, La Habra is ranked No. 18 in the latest Times preseason football poll.

Here's the article - Southern California high school football rankings

Times staff writer Ben Bolch even wrote a preview in the paper about La Habra vs. Orange Lutheran - Friday's top high school football games in the Southland

Times staff writer Eric Sondheimer also listed several local players to look for over the last two weeks including:

La Habra's Brett Bartolone (receiver), Cody Clements (quarterback), Will Peppard (secondary) and Michael Sparling (secondary), La Mirada's Aaryn Bouzos (secondary), EJ Galvez (defensive line) Isaac Luatua (offensive line) and Bryan Peters (offensive line), Schurr's Aaron Cantu (quarterback) and Whittier Christian's Jeff Worthy (defensive line).

About the only two players I think Eric missed was La Habra's Sean Wale (kicker) and La Mirada's Max Gama (running back/linebacker). But overall, this was a pretty good list.

Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

Really? You ignore schools that aren't named St Paul, La Mirada or La Habra.

Pot meet kettle.
