WDN Touchdown Table: Your predictions and ours

| | Comments (6) |

This season, our high school football columnist Aram Tolegian and I will go to head-to-head in giving our predictions for all the area games from week to week. Want to play? Just add your projections and keep your tally and see how you match up.
Records (season total, last week): Ramirez (25-16, 6-5); Tolegian (28-13, 8-3).
Last Week: Aram got a little breathing room by picking Pioneer over Sunny Hills and La Mirada, while I had Pioneer and La Serna in those games. We both missed on La Habra's near-win against Orange Lutheran and El Rancho surprising Montebello.
This week: The big game on the docket is La Habra hosting St. John Bosco on Thursday. It's the final encounter of the Highlanders' Trinity League trilogy. They made good account of themselves against OLu and Servite, and I banking they can get over the hump, especially returning to the friendly confines. Friday has some good matchups, with Charter Oak traveling to the area to face Santa Fe, and St. Paul hosting Ayala. I still don't have a solid read on Santa Fe, but on the surface it doesn't appear like they have what it takes to tackle Charter Oak, which might have one of its better teams in recent memory. Over at St. Paul, how can you not take the Swordsmen, who have looked solid the first three weeks.
Aram will provide his picks later.
This week's games:
Thursday
St. John Bosco at La Habra, 7 p.m. - Ramirez (La Habra); Tolegian (SJB)
Friday
Charter Oak vs. Santa Fe at Pioneer HS, 7 p.m. - Ramirez (Ch.Oak); Tolegian (Charter Oak)
Ayala at St. Paul, 7:30 p.m. - Ramirez (SPaul); Tolegian (San Pablo)
Cantwell-Sacred Heart at St. Bernard, 7 p.m. (St. Bernard); Tolegian (St. Bernard)
Bellflower at La Mirada, 7 p.m. - Ramirez (La Mirada); Tolegian (La Mirada)
Whittier vs. Paramount at California, 7 p.m. - Ramirez (Whittier); Tolegian (Paramount)
California at Schurr, 7 p.m. - Ramirez (CalHi); Tolegian (Cal)
La Serna at Warren, 7 p.m. - Ramirez (La Serna); Tolegian (La Serna)
Whittier Christian at Salesian, 7 p.m. - Ramirez (WC); Tolegian (Salesian)
Pioneer at Huntington Park, 7 p.m. - Ramirez (HB); Tolegian (Pioneer)

The only way La Habra beats St. John Bosco is if they get some good home cookin' from the refs like Loyola did at L.A. Valley College last weekend in beating the Braves.

I don't see this being as close as most Highlanders fans do.

Bosco by 14.

St. John Bosco at La Habra (LH by a close one)
Charter Oak vs. Santa Fe at Pioneer HS (CO, although i really want SF to beat them)
Ayala at St. Paul (ST PAUL, by a lot)
Bellflower at La Mirada (If LM loses, they shouldn't have a fb team)
Whittier vs. Paramount at California (Whittier)
California at Schurr (CAL-HI, schurr looks awful)
La Serna at Warren (I say Warren, close game)

You'll have to excuse me for my memory lapse. It's easy to forget San Clemente is a D1 school when a program like Santa Fe is able to beat them! I guess my original post should have read, "Are you going to be the first LEGITIMATE D1 program LH beats?"

@Still Laughing - actually if SJB loses they will be the 2nd D1 team to lose to LH. I believe the Highlanders beat San Clemente several years ago. However, that was not a good SC team back then. SJB is coming in with high expectations about them.

The LH-SJB game is more of a litmus test for SJB than it is for LH. Here's some bulletin board material for you guys over at SJB- are you going to allow yourselves to be the first D1 program LH embarrasses by defeating you? Or will you prove once again LH doesn't belong on the same field with the big boys?

I'm with Steve on this one. La Habra beats SJB this week. Another season of high expectations for the Braves goes by the way side.

I hope Ayala provides the Swordsmen a sterner test. Will they be prepared for the rigors of league?

I'd like to see Santa Fe take down Charter Oaks but I don't think it'll happen.
