@ sports fan, I get it you don't want to answer back to stated information that is really true about santa fe. Some people don't like the truth, but you'll see it come playoff time for santa fe. So you were just a specator watching a pioneer/santa fe game, and a fan of neither team? Right... And half of those kids at santa fe are supposed to go to Pioneer anyways, but the thing that really sucks is for santa fe kids that play all their four years at santa fe and don't get to play as juniors or seniors at any skill positions, because santa fe goes and recruits guys like joey davis for that! I wonder how the parents feel for their son that has been in the program for all 4 years and they always bring all these guys in to start year in and year out over kids that were dedicated to the program! And the pathetic thing is they still don't win..
Sport fan,
Thank you for thinking that I have my head on straight, I hope you weren't being sarcastic. Just to clarify. Pioneer, during home games, always stretches at that end of the field right before halftime ends, always, and Pellum was just being Pellum I guess. As for Pioneer officials honoring Jack, not really. It was at the districts direction that this take place. I believe someone was upset that Jack was not honored the week before, as he should have, and called the district and complained. You could tell by how poorly the whole dedication took place. The poorly executed dedication/honor took away from Pioneer's seniors who would be playing their last "home game" at Pioneer. And just so you know Pioneer coaches do not condone dirty/stupid play. I'm sure everyone in league/area knows that Coach Juarez teaches these kids to be respectful on and off the field, to grow up and be respectful citizens, unfortunately some just don't get it. From the stands you could see coaches upset with kids when they were called for the personal fouls and livid for the unsportmanlike conducts, not because they got caught but because that's not what they teach. And if you bench them who is going to replace them, have you seen their sideline, its not like the other 5 Del Rio league teams who have designated offenses, defenses and special teams with 7-8 different players. When the one player was ejected, you could hear Ramon say prior to the ejection, "get him out!!! That was just plain st****!! Get him out now!!!" I just hope that the Pioneer administration doesn't do anything stupid, without really thinking about what kind of players Pioneer has, due to the pool of kids the program has, enrollment and school programs, and the district alignment and policies that allow for student who live within Pioneer boundaries attend the other schools. Everyone knows, at least I hope they do, that Coach Juarez is not just a coach to these kids but more like a father figure. Enough said.
Good luck to the three Del Rio league teams standing. Represent well.
Just so every one is aware, I'm not associated with Sante Fe nor Pioneer just so theres not any confusion.
I'll respond to Joe since he has his head on straight when it comes to discussion. As for players not being ejected, the issue at hand is there were so many players on the field, that you can't really pick and choose players to throw out. One Pioneer player was ejected on Santa Fe's last touchdown PAT bu that was it. I'm sure pushing and shoving was going on by both teams, that's not really a surprise but it was Pioneer who were the agressor. But that's neither here or there.
As for upsetting Pioneer with pregame activities, that's a non issue because Pioneer officials were on the field honoring in addition to Santa Fe and CIF officials, which really was a deserving so no one can say it was ridiculous they did it. It was a Pioneer home game but everyone knows its Santa Fe's home field as well. As for warming up behind Pioneer, that was the first time all season I saw the Titans stretch on the opposite side of the field then what side they originally were on before the game.
Personal foul count for the game was 9 - 2 in favor of Pioneer and unsportsmanlike was 6-1 for Pioneer as well.
I don't blame the players for losing their cool. They are kids and some just don't know better. But the problem I have is that the coaches did nothing to stop this type of play, when it started in the second quarter.
I'm glad it didn't escalate further and that no one was injured. As you said, let's move on. This happened two weeks ago and now it's time for some playoff football. Hopefully all the area teams represent well and have a successful post season run!
Area Observer,
There was no brawl, yes both sidelines cleared (Santa Fe don't say you didn't) but there was only pushing and shoving, nothing to throw players out, I did agree with the decision that was made to call the game because, who knows, next incident maybe would have turned into an actual brawl. Relax and don't make Pioneer people look like a bunch of sore losers, a handful of Pioneer players already did last week.
Sports fan,
Here is how you upset Pioneer players: Dedicate Pioneer's Senior night (last Pioneer home game) to the opposing team's coach. Really, couldn't they do this the week before, during Santa Fe's last league home game at Pioneer? Then towards the end of halftime, while Pioneer is stretching out, warming up, allow Romeo Pellum (unofficial coach?) to tell Santa Fe players to line up right behind Pioneer to also "warm up" and chant "our house", instead of going to the other end of the field. By the way if indeed Pioneer sent a video to CIF (which I doubt they will), CIF would be asking who the Santa Fe hooded sweatshirt coach was tossing Pioneer players instead of holding back his own players (by the way that was Pellum). Also, both teams had their share of personal fouls and unsportsman like conducts. Let's leave this alone.
Good luck to all three teams in the playoffs, represent well.
@ Sports fan, oh and I forgot Santa Fe doesn't have any impact PLAYER(S)!! They have ONE player, DAVIS and that's it!
@ Sports fan, c'mon man I was there and how could you try and portray Santa Fe as this team with all this dignity, pride and self control???? You're really ridiculous, I'll admit Pioneer was playing dirty and it was because they were down and out just plain mad about losing, but that's not an excuse for their horrible actions on the field. But once everyone starter fighting there wasn't one person besides some adults and coaches that were trying to break it up, it totally went both ways with both team. Funny how you try and make Santa Fe look like this respectful program that would never do such a thing!! Outta of all the teams I would expect a fight from in the DRL would be Santa Fe they're always the dirtiest players on the field with cheap shots and late hits! But try and paint your nice picture of your school as much as you want, but all the DRL teams no the truth!! Just put it this way, no one is surprised you got in a fight with Pioneer, haha..
Area observer,
The reason for Santa Fe players not getting suspended is that they simply had no player participate in the brawl other than players pulling their teammates off to to the sideline to prevent any escalation. Oh and unlike Pioneer, the players on the sideline for Santa Fe stayed on the sideline. The players on the field were the only ones involved and it was their second and third string in the game at the time.
Take it from someone who was on the field.
Pioneers players, coaches, and parents were a disgrace last week. Pioneer got called for about 9-10 personal foul penalties and about 6 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.
Pioneer had no chance to compete so they instead decided to act classless and try and hurt opposing players every chance they got. And the coaches did nothing to stop it. If their was any discipline in that program, the coaches would have started benching players left and right.
When the brawl started, Santa Fe players tried pulling away their teammate who got punched in the head and separating the pioneer player from that incident. That was apparently a signal for the entire titans team to rush the field to start a fight. As santa fe's players retreated toward their sideline, Pioneer continued to follow them and continued fighting. If that wasn't enough, the crowd for Pioneer was on their feet cheering the loudest they did the entire game because of how proud they were of their children for their display on the field.
Pioneer can send that game tape in if they want, but the fact is that if you expect any impact players for Santa Fe to be suspended because of it, you'll be disapointed because those players weren't involved.
I just want to know why no one from Santa fe is getting suspended for that brawl that happened during their game last week! Rules are rules and whether people like it or not, there's consequences for actions like that!! And it doesnt matter who started it or not, just like all sports if you are involved your suspended! I'm real surprised on how quiet this is kept around the league! I guarantee if it was flipped and pioneer was going to the playoffs and Santa fe wasn't, Santa fe woulda sent in the tape to CIF and everything to prevent pioneer from winning! But because Santa fe is the league champ no one is saying anything! What a joke!!
Steve,
Any word on what Cantwell players are going to be suspended for Friday's game?
