Mods & Rockers Film Festival

The American Cinematheque announces the lineup of its 8th annual “Mods & Rockers Film Festival”. The extensive 40-film program opens Friday July 13 and will run for 3 weeks till Wednesday August 1 at the Cinematheque’s two locations - Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood and the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.

Full details on the dedicated festival website: www.ModsAndRockers.com

The festival – which started in 1999 as a one-off salute to 1960’s pop-culture flicks – has now expanded to become America’s largest annual celebration of rock-related films. Each year the festival presents a mixture of premieres of new films - and screenings of classic rock movies that have not been seen theatrically in many years. Nearly half of the films in this year’s festival are not available on DVD and have never been released on home-video. Many have never been seen on US TV.

The films in the 2007 festival represent a 50-year span from Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock” released in 1957 to the world premiere of the 2007 documentary “Respect Yourself” celebrating the 50th anniversary of Stax Records. The 40 films feature on-screen appearances and/or soundtrack performances by over 160 top musicians. An A-Z (Animals-to-Zappa) of the rock world.
