The Recording Academy has nominated chart-topping rock band Evanescence for Best Hard Rock Performance for "Sweet Sacrifice." The nomination follows the massive success of their October 2006 release, The Open Door, which has sold nearly 2 million copies in the U.S. to date. Since the release of The Open Door, Evanescence has played for fans on 5 continents, including shows in Argentina, Australia, Chile, Greece, Israel, Japan, Russia, South Africa, Turkey and everywhere in between. The group is wrapping up the final leg of their world tour Saturday in Rhode Island.

“This is truly an honor,” said front woman Amy Lee. “There is no higher prize in our industry and no event as spectacular as the Grammys. We are grateful for the nomination.” Evanescence was previously nominated for four Grammy’s in 2003 for their major-label debut, Fallen, for which they took home the Best Hard Rock Performance and Best New Artist statuettes.

Evanescence is Amy Lee (vocals, piano), Terry Balsamo (guitar), Tim McCord (bass), Troy McLawhorn (guitar) and Will Hunt (drums). Fallen, their major-label debut, was released in April 2003 to critical and commercial success and has sold more than fifteen million copies. Their second major label debut, The Open Door, debuted at Number One on the Billboard charts and reached platinum status in just over a month. For more information, please visit www.evanescence.com.
