What we’re listening to

A bunch of us in the Bulletin newsroom are big music fans and often trade music. We thought you might want to hear now and then what we listen to. Here’s what we’re currently playing:

David Allen, columnist: Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong, “Bing and Satchmo”; The Go-Betweens, “That Striped Sunlight Sound”; Van Morrison, “Best of Vol. 3.”

Will Bigham, reporter: The Smithereens, “Especially for You”; Freedy Johnston, “The Trouble Tree”; Ice Cube, “Death Certificate.”

Liset Marquez, reporter: Bat for Lashes, “Two Suns”; Wilco, “Wilco (The Album)”; The Dead Weather, “Horehound.”

John Valenzuela, photographer: The Dead Weather, “Horehound”; K’naan, “Troubadour”; 88-Keys, “Death of Adam.”

Wes Woods II, reporter: Nas “The Lost Tapes,” Cowboy Junkies “Trinity Revisited,” M.O.P. “Warriorz.”

How cool. Props to Will for “Especially for You.” Turn it up! “Behind the Wall of Sleep” is one of my favorites songs EVER (although if you can find their live EP, I think that is the definitive version).

And I am more of a Vol. 1 Van Fan.

    What is Wendy listening to?…

[Wendy didn’t respond. But we’ll do this feature again sometime. Btw, I was also listening to Dead Weather’s “Horehound,” in advance of the band’s Aug. 27 show at the Glass House, but I wasn’t by the time we put this list together. — DA]

  • All I listen to are audio books that I check out from the library.

Aren’t there any “Queen” lovers around your newsroom? Could it actually be true that you have all listened to “Queen” in the past, and you didn’t think they were awesome?

[You must have caught us all on a non-Queen day. — DA]
