The 2010 Heat Music Festival is scheduled for Feb. 13 on the campus of the University of California, Riverside. The address is 900 University Ave.

This year features Taking Back Sunday, The Crystal Method, Shiny Toy Guns, New Boyz, Sick Puppies, Steve Aoki, A-Trak and Far*East Movement for the festival’s fourth edition.

Here’s the news release:

“Long Island-based veteran rock band Taking Back Sunday are performing one of their last North American shows before departing for their Australian New Again tour. New Again is the group’s fourth studio album. Released in June, 2009, to generally favorable reviews, the album debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, selling 48,000 copies in its first week in the United States.

2010 Grammy Nominee The Crystal Method are sure to incite the audience with a storied
live experience. The electronic music duo received the Grammy nod for Divided by Night in
the Best Electronic/Dance Album category. The festival also features electro dance music
by Montreal-born DJ and turntablist A-Trak and UC Santa Barbara Alumnus, DJ/producer
Steve Aoki.

With a strong rock cast, the festival also features Australian-formed indie group Sick
Puppies and the Los Angeles-based alternative band Shiny Toy Guns. Hip-hop gets unusual
coverage with budding rap artists New Boyz (note: they went to school in Victorville) and the Asian American group Far*East Movement.”

Vampire Weekend album preview

What’s up pop/mainstream music junkies!

If you haven’t already heard KCRW is previewing Vampire Weekend’s latest album Contra.
I’m not rushing to listen to it because I’m not a VW fan, but let me know what you think and I might, MIGHT, just pump up the volume.
That said, even if you don’t have a crush on VP, (high-5), KCRW has a list of other albums to check out:
  • Duke Ellington: Three Suites
  • Laura Veirs: July Flame
  • Max Richter: Memoryhouse
  • Ingra George: Accidental Experimental
