Eagles haven’t sold out yet

ONTARIO – Hotel California
still has a few vacancies.

The Eagles – the rock supergroup consisting of Glenn Frey, Don
Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit – has not sold out Saturday’s
concert at Citizens Business Bank Arena, said Sue Oxarart, the arena’s
director of marketing.

“At this time, we have a little over 100 tickets left,”
Oxarart said Friday afternoon.

Tickets for a pair of seats next to each other will cost a
total of about $400. A single seat is about $180.

“There are not a whole lot of tickets left. We anticipate
those will be sold out,” Oxarart said.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The show starts at 8 p.m.

“We are anticipating the parking lot to get full pretty
quick,” Oxarart said. “People should get in early.”

The group – which is on its “Long Road Out Of Eden World Tour
2010” – has sold 100 million albums, according to the Recording Industry
Association of America. Their latest album, “Long Road Out of Eden,”
was released in 2007 and has sold seven million copies.

“We are looking forward to have a group like the Eagles
perform. We’re very excited,” Oxarart said.

The arena can seat more than 11,000 people for a concert.

Despite the anticipated size of the crowd, nothing was changed
or modified in regards to street closures or extra security, Oxarart
said.

The arena is at 4000 East Ontario Center Parkway.

Spring Gathering review of Kottonmouth Kings and Redman and Method Man

The Kottonmouth Kings, wearing white baseball hats and shirts, performed an hour-long set at the Dr. Greenthumb and Tommy Chong’s Spring Gathering music festival and medical marijuana expo.

The group’s Orange County high-energy hip-hop and psychedelic punk rock sound was well liked by the audience Saturday night at the National Orange Show in San Bernardino.

The first song was the 2000 uptempo track “Day Dreamin’ Fazes” from their album “High Society.” The hook definitely gets stuck in your head with its chanted lyrics of “Daydreamin’ fazes, time goes by/ That’s what happens when you get high/Head’s always cloudy, words is lies/Daydreamin’ fazes, I yes I.”

The group rolled through a good mix of punk songs like 2007’s “No Escape” and hip-hop tracks like 1998’s “Bump.” They also introduced their newest member The Dirtball who performed on tracks from the Kings’ latest album “Long Live The Kottonmouth Kings” including “Rampage.”

After asking the crowd “if you believe in personal freedom and you’re proud to be a stoner” they slowed down their set with the acoustic song “Proud To Be A Stoner.” The audience loudly sang along and filled in the gaps of the song when asked.

After the Kings was the headliners Redman and Method Man. The duo, who have starred in the comedy movie “How High,” had a great chemistry together on stage.

Their first songs came from their 2009 album “Blackout! 2” and included “Errbody Scream” (but no Keith Murray), the southern sounding “City Lights” without Bun B and their single “A-Yo” before going back to the 1990’s.

“This is like a 4/20 moment all over,” said Redman, who actually ran in front of and behind Method Man (in circles basically) while his friend performed his lyrics during the first couple of songs.

Redman performed his 1992 hit “Time 4 Sum Aksion” with its hook sampling B-Real from Cypress Hill before Method Man went back to 1994 for his sing-songy hit “Method Man” and both songs had the audiences jumping around and rapping the lyrics.

My only negative during this part of the show is I wish both hip-hop artists would perform complete songs and not just a single verse from each. Each artist reached back into their 90’s work as Method Man performed “Bring The Pain” and “All I Need” without Mary J. Blige and Redman performed “Tonight’s Da Night,” “I’ll Bee Dat” and “Da Goodness” without Busta Rhymes.

There was a couple of technical problems in the show as the set seemed to wrap up quicker than the scheduled hour (which Method Man and Redman voiced their complaints about) and Method Man was going to perform “Fall Out” from his “4:21 … The Day After” album but the DJ accidently spun Method and Redman’s “How High” remix and Redman took that as a cue to go into the song before he realized what happened and the problem was solved.

Redman also said the movie “How High 2” was being held up from Universal Pictures.

“If they would get off their a**** at Universal, you might see ‘How High 2,'” Redman said to the audience.

Despite the glitches, the duo performed a spirited version of their hit “Da Rockwilder” that had the entire crowd throwing up their hands and rapping along.

At the end, B-Real came out to massive applause and started performing his Cypress Hill hit “Hand On The Pump,” which “Da Rockwilder” samples its chorus from.

Spring Gathering review of Rebelution and Tommy Chong

Rebelution, a four-piece reggae group out of Santa Barbara, was probably the crowd’s favorite Saturday at the Dr. Greenthumb & Tommy Chong’s Spring Gathering music festival and medical marijuana expo.

The group started off with guitarist and vocalist Eric Rachmany asking the crowd “Where are all the ganja smokers in the house?” that drew instant cheers.

Rachmany, bassist Marley Williams, keyboardist Rory Carey and drummer Wesley Finley then jumped into “Green to Black” from their debut 2007 album “Courage to Grow” and the audience’s applause never wavered. Other songs like “Bump,” “Attention,” “Night Crawler” almost sounded like one long song to me but the audience was swaying from side to side and the musicianship is definitely there.

A new song, “So High,” for obvious reasons at a marijuana festival, really got the audience going and I believe Dre Gipson from Fishbone came out for vocals on the group’s last song “Safe and Sound.”

After Rebelution was the Kottonmouth Kings, but Tommy Chong came out and gave the audience a half comedy/half serious pep talk.

“I’ve been smoking pot for over 50 years,” Chong said. “That means I’ve been breaking the law for over 50 years.” He then detailed how selling a bong got him nine months in jail and he is now a convicted felon that must let the police know when he changes addresses.

With the upcoming November ballot initiative for the legalization of marijuana, he said, “we’re this close to getting it legal. But right here is legal,” he said to cheers from the audience.

“A lot of people ask me why I smoke marijuana,” Chong said. “I tell them the truth. It’s to get high. I do have a medical condition. It’s acute boredom,” he said to laughter from the crowd.

Chong then said smoking marijuana “puts you close to God. Because God is a stoner. God is not only a stoner but he has a sense of humor. How else can you explain George Bush?” he said to laughter.

Chong spoke for awhile longer, it wasn’t made clear if his talk was planned or he was stalling for time, before he introduced the Kottonmouth Kings as the next act.
