MC Hammer nails the hits in San Bernardino

Hip-hop and pop star MC Hammer will perform his long list of hits including “You Can’t Touch This,” “Have You Seen Her” and “It’s All Good” on Saturday.

He may even wear his trademark Hammer pants.

“Sometimes I do,” he said, adding with a laugh, “It depends on the occasion. I will tell you that I move the pants, the pants don’t move me.” MC Hammer, whose real name is Stanley Burrell, takes the stage at the California Theatre of Performing Arts. He performs material from his entire album catalog including his first album “Lets Get It Started” to “Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em” and “The Funky Headhunter.” “The songs are married to each other,” Hammer said. “If you take the ‘Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em album, I’m performing anything from ‘U Can’t Touch This’ to ‘Here Comes The Hammer’ to ‘Pray’ to ‘Have You Seen Her?”‘

“The songs are all Top 10 records but then I draw one of the songs that wasn’t well known – but 15 or 16 million bought the album,” Hammer said.

Hammer’s success in the early 1990s included work in commercials and TV cartoons, which earned criticism in some quarters.

“Anyone who pioneered at a large level has always had opposition,” he said. “Whether Jackie Robinson in baseball or MC Hammer bringing hip-hop music into the mainstream.”
