Huntington Beach punk rock band The Vandals will perform today for the Benefit for Legal Defense Fund Against The Daily Variety.
The band is in a current legal battle with publication The Daily Variety over a cover to their album “Hollywood Potato Chip,” which was released in 2004. The band, which has been around since 1980, has been through numerous lineup changes. Its current roster consists of veterans Joe Escalante on bass and Warren Fitzgerald on guitar, with singer Dave Quackenbush and drummer Josh Freese.
In an August interview, guitarist and songwriter Fitzgerald was asked if his lyrical influences have changed over the years.
“This is the honest answer: I’ve been in this band since I was in my late teens. It’s been a very long time, and my maturity hasn’t evolved at all, up any notches really. Maybe here and there I know a few things, like don’t put your hand on the stove, but really beyond that, it’s kinda the same notch, especially things in regard to relationships and real life. My biggest influence is taking the wrong side of an argument and trying to convince or rationalize it.” The band will perform with Riverside-based Assorted Jellybeans and Santa Barbara’s Versus the World.
