Coachella festival night one mini report

I was late arriving at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival because of stories that needed to be filed before I could drive from Ontario to Indio but here is a brief night report before my laptop batteries die:

Robyn, who performed from 10:50 to 11:40 p.m. inside the Mojave tent, gave a strong performance that drew a packed crowd with her electro and disco material including “Indestructable” and “Dancing On My Own.”

The Swedish singer bounced around the stage, would raise her hands at various points and told the audience to sing along which they happily did while her image was shown on two separate video screens. The band was also tremendous and kept up with Robyn’s energy.

Kings of Leon were stellar with their picture perfect sound but they don’t give off a lot of physical energy despite being a main Coachella stage act. I wasn’t able to catch a lot of their set but their biggest hits, “Sex On Fire” and “Use Somebody,” sounded exactly like the radio hits.

Meanwhile, the Aquabats ska sounds, oversized costumes and two video screens showcasing people like Hulk Hogan or stuffed animals with trumpets moving to the beat were a hit with the people in the Mojave tent on newer songs like “BFF” and “Pizza Day.”
