KSPC holds musical acts series featuring Claremont College acts

The Claremont radio station KSPC is holding a free musical acts series featuring Claremont College related acts at Rhino Records.
Rhino Records is at 235 N. Yale Ave. in Claremont and all acts start at 3 p.m.
The series starts March 25 with Pitzer College graduate Katie Ferrara performing indie pop. Her music can be found at http://www.myspace.com/katieferraramusic.
Pomona College’s Kitchen Hips’ psychedelic banjo performance will be April 1. Their music can be found at http://kitchenhips.bandcamp.com.
Pitzer College’s Sweet Nothin’s performs April 8. Pomona College’s Me Lacey Flowers performs April 15.

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival acts headed to Pomona Glass House and Fox Theater in April

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival may have sold out but some of its individual acts will be headed to Pomona.
Here is the list for Coachella acts at the Glass House in which tickets go on sale Friday:

Fagersta, Sweden garage rock band The Hives, New York City’s dance punk group The Rapture and Housse De Racket perform April 16. Tickets are $22.50.

Here is a list for Coachella acts at the Glass House in which tickets go on sale at noon March 16:
– Harlem, New York hip-hop artist A$AP Rocky performs April 17. Tickets are $20.
Meanwhile, Swedish hardcore punk group Refused and Sacramento experimental hip-hop group Death Grips will perform April 12 but as of Wednesday there was no word on when tickets would go on sale so keep checking out The Glass House website at www.theglasshouse.us/.
The Glass House is at 200 W. Second St. in Pomona.
Here is the list for Coachella acts at the Fox Theater in which tickets go on sale Friday:
– Antibes, France electronic artist M83 with Los Angeles rock act Big Black Delta perform April 12. Tickets are $25 or $28 date of show.
– Eau Claire, Wisconsin indie folk artist Bon Iver with Madison, Wisconsin experimental rock act All Tiny Creatures will perform April 16. Tickets are $37.50 or $40 date of show.
The list for Coachella acts at the Fox Theater in which tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. March 16 is just one:
– Chapel Hill, North Carolina electronic dance music artist Porter Robinson and Nantes, France electro pop producer Madeon perform April 18. Tickets are $26 or $28.50 date of show. Pre-sale tickets for the show start at 10 a.m. March 15 with the password SPITFIRE.
Meanwhile, Sheffield, England alternative rock act Pulp performs at the Fox Theater on April 19. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. March 30 and are $50 for general admission or $60 for loge level.

Acts not on Coachella bill that announced dates at the Glass House recently.
Anaheim ska band My Superhero, Orange rock, ska and punk act Code Name: Rocky and For Pete’s Sake will perform June 30. Tickets, which are $15, are on sale now.
Denver, Colorado Christian ska punk band Fire Iron Frenzy will perform June 22. Tickets, which go on sale at noon March 16, range from $20 to $40.

HIGHLAND – Grammy Award winning comedy duo Cheech and Chong are back at the San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino after last performing here for their 2008 Light Up America tour. 
The duo, who won their Grammy for “Los Cochinos” which was named Best Comedy Album in 1973, will perform Thursday at the casino.
Besides albums, the group’s 1978 comedy film “Up in Smoke” made more than $100 million at the box office and was the highest grossing comedy of the year.
In 2009, the duo hosted Cypress Hill Smokeout Festival at the San Manuel Amphitheater which featured acts such as Slipknot, Bad Brains and Cypress Hill.
In a 2008 interview with the Los Angeles Daily News, Marin called the reunion “amazing. We virtually had no rehearsal. We sat down across the table and talked it over, and we went on stage. It’s like we hadn’t been away for half an hour. You know how when you have a tattoo taken off with a laser, and you have a scar that looks like the tattoo? That’s kind of like our connection.”
Chong’s wife Shelby Chong will be the special guest opener for the show.

Andre Nickatina to perform at Glass House on May 18

San Francisco hip-hop artist Andre Nickatina, who used to be known as Dre Dog to us old hip-hop heads, will perform at 7 p.m. with Fashawn and Mumbls at the Glass House in Pomona.

His latest mixtape “Where’s My Money?” will be released on his birthday of March 11.

Sleigh Bells to perform in April at Fox Theater

Brooklyn noise pop duo Sleigh Bells will perform April 4 at the Fox Theater in Pomona. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. while the show starts at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets are $22.50 plus fees or $25 date of how and are on sale now.
Their latest album “Reign of Terror” was released on Feb. 21. The theater is at 301 S. Garey Ave. in Pomona.

Musekiwa Chingodza to give free performance April 1 at Pomona College

Acclaimed Zimbabwean music recording artist Musekiwa Chingodza will give a free performance at 3 p.m. April 1 at Pomona College’s Bridges Hall of Music, 150 E. 4th St. in Claremont.58976-Musenodanger-thumb-400x457-58975.jpg
According to the news release, Chingodza performs his traditional music in the Shona tradition.
“Our music is both medicine and food, as mbira has the power to heal and to provide for people. Mbira pleases both the living and the dead.” 
Chingodza was a key member of the band Panjea in 1991 and composed the hit song “Ganda” on Panjea’s Zimbabwean album. 
Singer, drummer and dancer Chingodza, who plays nyunga nyunga and mbira dzavadzimu, used to teach mbira at Prince Edward School in Harare and currently plays mbira at ceremonies in Zimbabwe. 
His most recent album with Bud Cohen, “Tomutenda Mambo,” was released in 2011.

Reggae Music Festival Returns to NOS Events Center

The second annual Inland Empire Reggae Music and Art Festival will return to the National Orange Show on May 12 with Pato Banton and the Now Genration among other acts.58974-pato-banton-now-generation.jpg
Besides Banton, Admiral Bailey, Better Chemistry, Shoreline Roots, Kingston 13 Band, and Higher Lion will perform and other artists will be announced later.
Event promoter Garrett Management Group in collaboration with Stone’s & Chin’s Jamaican Restaurant and Bakery announced the return of the event on Tuesday.
“We’ve received calls from bands as far as South America, Europe, and Africa expressing interest in participating with the unfortunate cancelling of the Ragga Muffins Festival in Long Beach,” said promoter Alton Garrett in a news release. “The Inland Empire Reggae Music and Art Festival is filling a void for quality reggae in Southern California this summer.”
There will be a new art aspect of the music festival, featuring world-renowned ethnic visual artist Charles Bibbs, according to the news release, as well as the Art 2000 Visual Art Association and other local artists and vendors.
The National Orange Show is at 689 S. E St. in San Bernardino.

During March, tickets will be available for a promotional price of buy one for $30 and get one free. The promoter is also accepting vendor applications.

Vans Warped Tour is headed back to the Pomona Fairplex on June 22

The Vans Warped Tour is headed back to the Pomona Fairplex on June 22 (which is a Friday). 
Recent additions to the tour have included: hip-hop and electronic bass DJ Wick-it the Instigator, and the new Acoustic Basement Stage featuring Anthony Raneri (of Bayside), Vinnie Caruana (of The Movielife, I Am the Avalanche), pop punk’s A Loss for Words, indie rock/pop punk’s Transit, emo/indie’s Into It. Over It., post punk’s Koji, singer/songwriter Owen Plant and folk’s Brian Marquis besides more.

Other recent acts announced include rock’s Ten Second Epic, hip-hop’s Justina, punk rock and ska’s The Jukebox Romantics, pop, punk and rock’s Cold Forty Three, alternative rock’s The Darlings and alternative rock’s We Are The Ocean.
Full lineups for shows have not been announced so it’s tough to say what bands will actually be in Pomona. 
The lineup is scheduled to feature alternative rock’s Mayday Parade, metal’s blessthe fall, electronic rock’s Breath Carolina and hip-hop’s Machine Gun Kelly.
The Fairplex is at 1101 W. McKinley Ave. in Pomona.
